Normally I try not to read the news too much, as it makes me worried and I can’t do much about it

but since trump has buddied up with putin, it’s starting to get me quite worried about what the hell is going no to happen
again I suppose there’s not much I can do about it either way
si don’t really know what I’m really other than are you really worried too
and if you’re not what do you tend to say to yourself about it all ?

I would respectfully suggest that you are one of those whose position is moulded by what they read online. It is no surprise that the masses tend to adopt the rhetoric of the media as they have nothing else to base opinions on.

Speak to people who have genuine experience of the world and you will find a far broader range of opinions. Out of interest when were you last in Russia? I lived there for a while but assume you must have far more insightful experiences than that based on your comments. I’d be interested to know what they are.

And what is it exactly that you know from your broad and genuine experience of the world? Please enlighten us.

And when was it, as in what years, that you lived in Russia, that bastion of free flowing, unbiased information for the masses?

What will the unholy trinity of orangeman, vance and musk do to Americans?

Make American Billionaires Richer.

Trump will have asked AI what make America rich and influential and it will have answered WW2. A tried and tested way to make US great again is to be the victor and financer of war, of a war that is not on your soil.

hobbledyhoy · 02/03/2025 11:31

Very, I feel a constant sense of unease every time I open the news app. I've even switched off alerts as I can't bear to have constant breaking news alerts every time those clowns say something stupid.
The media are constantly baiting for our attention. I've never known so many 'breaking' news stories that are nothing of the sort.
I try to take a break and remind myself that the world has always had unhinged arseholes since the dawn of time, we just get to hear about everything they do throughout the day now.

DeanElderberry · 02/03/2025 11:34

I wonder very much what China makes of it. Russia distracted by its western front, America isolating itself from its former western allies. Might seem like just the time to grab Vladivostok and push into central Asia.

WinterMorn · 02/03/2025 11:37

@BetterDeadThanRed thank you for such an interesting post. I agree with so much of what you say.

I wish this was a joke, but I fear it's true.

I’m more concerned about the harm to our lives caused by Starmer and the Labour party. It’s no going to end well.

How ridiculous 🙄

madroid · 02/03/2025 11:46

@DeanElderberry America isolating itself from its former western allies.

No, just three days ago Starmer and Trump met, Macron the day b4. They are not isolated yet. NATO and the US role in it is another matter. Trump said last time he was President he didn't see its value for his country. That might have been posturing but it fits with his deal making ethic.

Urghhhhhhh · 02/03/2025 11:50

I'm sure China is thinking it's a good time to achieve its own strategic aims

I keep seeing a USA political analyst talks - she says dicators tell their population what they are doing - they have to even now - and China been clear they want Taiwan. They have declining population numbers which will hit their forces as some point. I wonder if with Trump increasingly isolated they may act.

I didn't see 9/11 as a global turning point - perhaps I was too young to see it - more 2008 financial crisis kicked off by USA due to poor regulation and coruption. It lead to austerity here which caused huge financial damage and the 2010 European debt crisis. In USA it hit the middle classes in huge ways - making them feel economically insecure and that tends to lead to poltcial instablity.

Trump is one half of the equation - he's affecting his own country not just USA world position - the other perhaps bigger half is how the rest of the world responds.

Catapultaway · 02/03/2025 07:55

What has actually happened since he became president?

The US has broken our alliance and has allied with Russia. Around the world 3/4 of all food and medicine aid has been stopped. America is leaving NATO. Trump has said the US would not support or defend Britain in a war with Russia.

caramac04 · 02/03/2025 12:25

I have become worried about disinformation and how much I may have been taken in by. Sounds ridiculous, I’m not stupid but not sure I consider what I read and hear intellectually enough. My dh does though and we discuss things. I then feel so helpless that the world seems such a rotten place driven by greed and I’m doing nothing.
I am now worried that we could be at war within months. Maybe we won’t but maybe we will.
All of the above seems worse given my opinion of how our country has been and is being governed.
Given that though, I’ve still been singing and dancing in the kitchen today.

I’m no Trump fan believe me, but this is not true. America is threatening to leave NATO but has not yet done so. Trump said America would help Britain if they were attacked.

ContactNightmare · 02/03/2025 12:41

Very. I think we have to assume that the US is on the slide to something that is very ugly. We should start hoping they build an iron dome, and we need to cut off their tech influence very quickly. Vance is our next problem and he doesn't like Europe.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 02/03/2025 12:47

Anyone who isn't deeply worried right now isn't following what's going on.

Apart from Putin and his cronies, that is. They must be rubbing their hands in glee.

frozendaisy · 02/03/2025 13:03

WinterMorn · 02/03/2025 09:25

@frozendaisy how would you moving to the US improve your situation?

Because no one is likely to kick off at the US directly whereas the UK is a bit of a stand alone at the moment

luckily we have little in way of natural resources as a motive

and we don’t have daughters

but there are guns

it was just an option unlikely to be required, but H has never vocalised the possibility before which is notable

1WanderingWomble · 02/03/2025 13:05

Vance is our next problem and he doesn't like Europe.

He's my biggest worry. The 'heir apparent', an incredibly nasty sociopathic individual.

frozendaisy · 02/03/2025 13:06

China v India over access to shared river water supply is where WWIII will start. I reckon.

FancyNewt · 02/03/2025 13:07

I'm worried. I think the recent press conference will be looked at in history as a pivotal moment that USA aligned itself with Russia. The consequences are huge in terms of security for Europe. We rely on America to provide security and weapons.

I have a son and fear for what may lay ahead in his lifetime.

But he has to be voted in

If Trump doesn’t make the average American feel richer in the next 4 years will they stand by him?

It’s all bravado and flag waving until the global effects on share prices, investment and everything else hits.

USA can stand alone, they are rich with resources but that won’t improve life for all.

SunshinDay · 02/03/2025 13:20

@BetterDeadThanRed interesting post thanks.
So what do you think we should all do to stop the war. Let it run on with a weak putin or try and stop it.

Gettingbysomehow · 02/03/2025 13:22

Not much, he's all mouth there won't be any lasting benefits. After 5 years on his 2nd term. He won't be able to be president again.
Let's just hope he doesn't think he's the Kennedy clan instead he's just a rather vulgar billionaire.

True, but it's a cult of chauvinism and misinformation. Their lives may get materially worse, but does that break its hold? I don't think so. They will make a theatre out of blaming and humiliating all elements of society that they perceive as the enemy.
