Is your house “visitor ready”?

Right now?

Much is made of this on MN, so if there was a surprise knock on your door now, would you be happy with the state of your home to allow your visitors in?

well the kitchen is stripped out as I am waiting for the man to fix my boiler and I have only half the seats on my two sofas because I am getting new foams so the covers are at the upholsterers and i can't put the remaining seats on one settee because they are different sizes and also they are just the bare manky foam with old sheets over them. but apart from that yes

mrsm43s · 26/02/2025 15:12

Yes, always. It's just how I rock. Not a fan of mess or clutter at all, and I have systems in place to make sure the house is always clean without cleaning having to take up much time daily (basically a bit like a bespoke TOMM - but one that predates her)

CharliesAngles · 26/02/2025 15:13

@FrannyScraps OFSTED 🤣

Yes. Either they are people I like who will take me as they find me or people I dont want round in which case they can learn to live with muddy dog prints and cobwebs!

@FrannyScraps OFSTED 🤣

Yes a real thing for childminders!

PoppyBaxter · 26/02/2025 15:21

Yes. It's always tidy and in decent shape. The toilets are always clean. The kitchen is never a state.
The bed was unmade when you posted the thread, but a visitor wouldn't be going in there anyway.
There are bits all over the floor because the hoover is broken and we're researching what replacement to buy, but normally that wouldn't be the case.
We're a couple in our 40s with one small dog and no kids, so don't really have any excuses for not keeping on top of the house!

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 26/02/2025 15:22

Always, but sadly few visit. I only judge on hospitality though and a warm welcome makes every home look good.

Iamthemoom · 26/02/2025 15:23

Yes pretty much but if I knew visitors were coming I'd Purdy & Figg it a bit so it smelled lovely! And tidy away shoes and general detritus DH and DD will have left lying around downstairs since I tidied it all away yesterday!

frozendaisy · 26/02/2025 15:25

Oh I don't know
There are bread rolls proving, tumble dryer is on, balls of clean socks on top of washine machine, we don't have a dishwasher so there is usually a pile of washing up drying away.
Right now we have seedlings scattered around, revision books and papers piled up, other books we are either reading or reference on a regular basis (dictionaries and curry recipes), sketch books and pencils, plus as the kids didn't cycle in cycling helmets and muddy footwear around both doors.
A jigsaw that has been glued together which we are going to put LEDs in, glue, pliers and screwdrivers in a pile because I have been fixing remote control cars and some composting that will be taken out shortly.

Bathroom is clean, football watching projector room is clear, so when friends pop round later to watch the game they all have cushions, blankets (if they want), good viewing position and a table surface for drinks and snacks.

So I don't know is that MN passable or not? Because it's about as good as it gets! 😀

NotaRealHousewife · 26/02/2025 15:26

Always, I like a show home

WearyAuldWumman · 26/02/2025 15:27

No.

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 26/02/2025 15:28

Depends which visitor - my mum yes. Mate from up the street - yes.
Someone from work / school / not seen in ages - Nooooowaaaaaay

Rainbow1235 · 26/02/2025 15:28

Yes clean and tidy here so anyone is welcome

Tahcnibor · 26/02/2025 15:28

Not sure really what that means. I mean, my house is a bit messy but the bathroom is clean, the kitchen has some cups and plates waiting to be washed up but otherwise ok, so basically ok for impromptu guests if they are happy to take it as they find it , but a show home if is not

Ddakji · 26/02/2025 15:29

Yes, probably, but my standards might not be as high as others!

No small children which does help.

Needamagicfairy · 26/02/2025 15:29

Yes now, but rarely when dc were small

NormasArse · 26/02/2025 15:29

No, and neither am I.

ARichtGoodDram · 26/02/2025 15:30

Yes. But only because we have carers coming in for DD daily and an endless stream of appointments.

Plus an amazing cleaner who comes twice a week and a MIL (who lives here) who finds cleaning and organising enjoyable and therapeutic

Not because of me 😂

mitogoshigg · 26/02/2025 15:35

Quite happy to let you come around for tea, my mother however would be ashamed of my messGrin

salemcooper · 26/02/2025 15:36

Only the bottom floor. Upstairs is for our eyes only.

ChiaraRimini · 26/02/2025 15:37

Yes, but there's only me and a teenager living here. So as long as they don't go in her room, it's fine.
It was a different story with 2 other kids and a husband in the house...

Chipsahoy · 26/02/2025 15:40

Yes. It always is. Despite a reno going on, I always keep the other rooms clean and tidy.

BestZebbie · 26/02/2025 15:40

Depends who for - a schoolfriend who mostly wants to play Minecraft and eat biscuits - sure, come right in - someone inspecting us after a malicious call to social services/coming to discuss offering me an OBE - I'd prefer to have an hour's notice to pick up and hoover.

Bloop1986 · 26/02/2025 15:50

Ha ha ehh no 🤦

Moier · 26/02/2025 15:57

Yes.. my carer/ cleaner is brilliant.
