A sewing machine. I havent used it for 40 years...

Justme2023123 · 26/02/2025 11:36

A heart shaped le creuset casserole dish. Never used it, awkward shape taking up way too much cupboard space.

I'm a yoyo dieter and have wardrobes full of clothes in different sizes from 8 - 20 that I can't bear to part with 😫

Basically everything in my house right now 😞😁😁!!

I am doing a big cull though at the moment.

Got to a stage where I was getting overwhelmed with the ...
" Ohh but that might come in useful for someone/thing " 😂😂!

How much do you want for it? I've always wanted one of the cast iron ones 😁

RabbitsRock · 26/02/2025 11:43

So much!

Justme2023123 · 26/02/2025 11:51

It's not cast iron, sorry @Kilroywashere just a normal but solid stoneware one

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 26/02/2025 11:56

For starters: two china cake stands, one of them vintage but ugly. The other pretty (though not my taste) retrieved from PIL's house.
A lot of stuff retrieved from their house, and my own DP's house. Seeing a theme yet?

The pp's mention of clothes rings true with me. I'm a size 14 and have very few clothes that fit me (I now hate shopping since I gained weight) but I have a wardrobe of lovely items in size 12 and below. I also have boxes and boxes of clothes in the attic, some are almost 30 years old, I hoped my niece would use some but she's got broader shoulders and hips than I had and the clothes won't ever fit her. I really need to start sorting them but really wish I had someone to pass some bits to. I pulled out some lovely denim minis recently and felt to sad I'd never wear them again but happy memories of wearing them and just having a carefree time. There are evening dresses, trouser suits, lovely fitted shirts, jeans etc. Whenever I pull something out of the boxes I amaze at the difference in quality of clothes a few years ago and now, stuff I got in the likes of Jane Normans was better quality than very expensive stuff today.

A viola

We have a food processor that takes up all the cupboard space it is is in and we've never used it because DH had a horrific accident with the blades when he unboxed it. And I mean horrific. But we seem to be paralysed with fear and now it just sits in the cupboard lurking like a malevolent spirit.

my husband smashed the lid for mine 😭 still can’t bear to get rid of it.

wherearemypastnames · 26/02/2025 12:16

Just thrown the ice cube tray away

Vates · 26/02/2025 12:38

A large rat cage, my last pet rats died over ten years ago. Won't throw it out because 'just in case'. I live in a tiny one bed flat and it is taking up a third of my hallway. It has a throw chucked over it and I put my folded clothes on it (I don't own a wardrobe, as no space). Madness!

Our wedding dinner set. My MIL wanted us to choose quickly a week before our wedding and given I had loads going on I chose the first thing I saw which unfortunately was an expensive Wedgwood pinstriped pattern.

In the cold light of day it’s not my taste, doesn’t suit our home and consequently never gets taken out of the utility room cupboard.

A pasta maker

Wellies

Costume jewellery (and i'm talking cheap stuff)

Make up

Hair Curlers (bought about 5 yras ago, never used because i don't know where to start and doing my hair is an effort)

mumda · 26/02/2025 13:21

Had a pasta maker and decided I'd use it for rolling air-drying clay thin. Nah. It was broken and probably had been since I'd got it from a charity shop. That went in the scrap pile.

Soup maker. Used twice. Might use it again but probably not.

Ice cream maker. Not sure we've used it more than once. Won it. So no financial outlay to get it - I think it replaced the previous one that I had actually used once.

UtterlyOtterly · 26/02/2025 13:36

Fondue set. I have tried to get rid of it several times but then someone says "We could have a fondue one day." We never will.

BestDIL · 26/02/2025 13:39

A bloody spiralizer - yes I was that person. Thought it would be great. Used once, too much faff to clean and has been in the cupboard ever since! It wasn't cheap so can't bring myself to throw out!

A bread maker. Used about a dozen times. Hubby and I joke that the cost per loaf is coming down but it's still about £5 a loaf!

Me too! It was my Mum's who was a brilliant dressmaker.
That gene has completely bypassed me, so is no use to me, but my DF bought it for my DM the year I was born (1954) Still have the instruction booklet and it is in full working order!

Cannot let it go.

Plumedenom · 26/02/2025 13:46

I have been having a clear out, so I will delight you all with all the useless things I have got rid of and some that I still need to find homes for. The biggest was a beautiful doll house which my daughter never played with. she has had 8 years and it was time to accept. She was very happy to have the space back. The next was a little people princess castle, massive plastic thing, again unplayed with for 5 years. Next many sets of playmobil. Idem. I then got rid of a massive throw that for some reason I held onto under my bed even though I put it under my bed when I bought a new decent throw. Many many coats have been rehomed these weeks. Coats breed in the wardrobe. Still holding onto the guitar hero guitar, wii balance board, two laptop bags, a whole drawer of completely pointless dvds, and an electric drumkit that my husband keeps next to my bed even though he always goes to play in his dedicated practice room on the real thing.

Plumedenom · 26/02/2025 13:47

I[m jealous of those of you with a real sewing machine. I lent mine to a friend and never got it back. My mum[s old Singer :( which means yesterday I had to make a dressing u cape on a shitty little mini sewing machine I bought for thirty quid on amazon during covid for making masks.
