A sewing machine. It's not a special one and i've only made 1 or 2 things, haven't touched it for at least 5 years but don't quite want to get rid of it.

InMyMNEra · 26/02/2025 13:55

The George Foreman grill. We haven’t used it for years, but Dh refuses to get rid of it

We still have a dvd player in the living room.

I gave away most of my smaller clothes that no longer fit

Books such as The Gruffalo, etc, but I can’t bear to part with. Kids are teens

TommyShelbysRazor · 26/02/2025 13:56

Basically everything from my wedding. I made all the decorations and stationary, literally everything, because hiring it all was too expensive and we had a marquee in the woods. 11 years ago this year 😂
It all lives in the shed and I can't bear to part with it!!

RobinEllacotStrike · 26/02/2025 13:59

CDs
DVDs

The bath.

edwinbear · 26/02/2025 14:01

My wedding dress is in a box under my bed, where it's been for 20yrs. Not really sure quite why I'm hanging on to it, but feels like I should.

theboffinsarecoming · 26/02/2025 14:02

An ancient, ugly great Dresden vase that's not worth much, but which has been passed down in the family from my distant ancestors who came to the UK from Germany in the mid 1800's, so I am just the current custodian of it. The thing lives in the loft.

Hang on to the books. This is a warning - a week after I passed on all my daughter’s childhood books, she told us she was pregnant! It was a complete shock, and has turned out fantastically, but I can’t help but feel that getting rid of the books caused this.

And I curse myself as I’m now spending an absolute fortune replacing the books!

igivein · 26/02/2025 14:18

A large suitcase full of VHS tapes
CDs/DVDs
Wii board
xbox
fondue set
3 old laptops
an exercise bike
kids books (DS is 18, but the ones I can't let go came from my (now deceased) sister
About 2 tons of Warhammer gubbins
ditto lego
3 x outgrown bikes
a 2 bedroom family tent
a zed bed

I could go on but it's too depressing...

I'm a yoyo dieter and have wardrobes full of clothes in different sizes from 8 - 20 that I can't bear to part with 😫

Same. I've lost and gained four or five stone about three times now!

FamilyPhoto · 26/02/2025 14:21

A book.
The last present my dad bought for me before he died. We were reading together then discussing chapters - we lived a plane ride away from each other. We never got to finish the book. I will never , ever, get rid of it.

SunsetCocktails · 26/02/2025 14:27

Smoothie maker
Some kids toys, Lego and books in the attic, although kind of saving for any future grandchildren as some of them were mine as a child
Bridesmaid dresses from friends weddings

DH and kids tend to hoard but I don't, I'm a massive declutterer. Nothing satisfies me more than getting rid of unnecessary stuff. I'm like a kid in a sweet shop when a charity bag comes through the door.

Londonmummy66 · 26/02/2025 14:34

My wedding dress, the ballgown my parents paid for when I went to university, DDs first booties and shoes and the dress DD1 wore to DD2s christening.

Velmy · 26/02/2025 14:46

Not sure of the exact name for it, but it's six foot tall, quite good looking but never does the bloody hoovering.

mybelovedghostandme · 26/02/2025 14:49

I always wanted a heart shaped le cruet dish !
For me it is my Morphy Richard's soup maker

HundredPercentUnsure · 26/02/2025 14:53

Champagne glasses we got as an engagement present when we lived abroad. They have stems that sit in a detached base, so you need to carry the base around with you if you want to put the glass down in another room, so they're a pain and we never use them.

But, can't get rid of them! Engagement present from friends we haven't seen since - the transient life of expats. Bring memories of fond times. We're still in touch but in entirely different countries now!

Renamed · 26/02/2025 14:56

A dear little hut for my cat, bought when it got too cold and wet for her to use her little tent in the backyard. She’s not set foot in it.

sunshineandrain82 · 26/02/2025 15:49

I have a traditional silver cross pram In mine. It was brought for my first child 11 years ago by my nan.
Didn't use it with any of my other children. But I can't bare to get rid of it.

sunshineandrain82 · 26/02/2025 15:51

I also actually have the christening gown that my sister and I wore. My children actually went on to wear it.

saveforthat · 26/02/2025 15:56

An airfryer. Yes really. Everyone kept saying, you must get one, I never use my oven now, blah, blah, blah. I've used it once.

Your book does have a purpose 💐

Mine is an ashtray I bought in Camden market in about 1993. It's beautiful but I haven't smoked for at least 20 years.

If it's good at DIY and gardening, and it comes with its own drill set, I'll gladly take it off your hands.

Or we could do a time-share, six months each to give you a break.
