What is something ‘weird’ that you do that other people don’t?

I take a blanket to the cinema 🤷‍♀️😂

I melt chocolate in the microwave and eat it with a teaspoon.

recipientofraspberries · 26/02/2025 00:42

I can't swallow while looking at someone or something I wouldn't put in my mouth. 😂yes, the innuendos write themselves, but it's true! I have to look at something that wouldn't disgust me to have in my mouth before I can swallow. I also fear that if I swallow or blink while looking at the sky or the sea, for example, I'll be transported to space or underwater.

How ever did you come to fear that? 🤔😳😵‍💫

I was diagnosed with OCD when I was a child, and while I don't think I'd quite meet the criteria for a diagnosis if I was assessed again now, I feel it comes from that. Magical thinking.

Absolute lollage to this.

What a superb way to start a thread!👏

MannyTeddy · 26/02/2025 00:58

Every night I look at the clock and square all the numbers and it pleases me if they are even or multiples of 7, so 12:56 would be 96 (6×6=36, 5×5=25, 2×2=4, 1×1=1 total 96) I also check the back door 8 times and the front 16 🙄🥰😂

I take a blanket to the football match in the winter!!

Zoflorabore · 26/02/2025 00:59

I fold my dirty laundry before putting it in the washing basket. I know this is really weird but I can’t just throw it in.

Maybe you could turn the fear into a wish for that ability? Then you wouldn't be afraid of it happening? 🩷

Tlikestotalk · 25/02/2025 15:07

I do this too! It's a self soothing thing.

I do this!

Nosebooper · 26/02/2025 01:23

I keep After Eight mints in the freezer. They taste so much better when frozen, like minty ice cream.

I spell things out in my head all the time, when I'm listening to audio books (which I don't do anymore, because it's so irritating), when I'm writing or reading something, sometimes I actually type it in my head.

I count steps all the time when I'm walking.

I think it's an OCD tendency iirc.

I like that. Resisting against OCD/magical thinking thoughts tends to worsen them, so leaning into it might actually help.

Serve my Yorkshire puddings as a starter (which is, for my very Yorkshire family at least, the traditional way...)

We also used to have Yorkshire puddings as a dessert with melted butter and sugar when I was a child.

Keenovay · 26/02/2025 01:36

@QwestSprout post about mentally tasting food reminds me I went through a phase (esp when travelling abroad) where I decided what to eat by picturing a small hamster and what it might like to eat right now. It wasn't that I was eating miniature salads or trying to lose weight! - but somehow projecting onto this hamster seemed to result in more varied and balanced meals than just asking myself.

I don't know why it was a hamster. I've not had one since I was a child. Also I've never shared this with anyone!

Imagine it as a superpower. 😀
(Also ocd thinking on my end; I understand)

Crushed23 · 26/02/2025 01:52

I listen to recordings of an old radio show over and over and over again.

gettingthehangofsewing · 26/02/2025 02:22

I twist my hair into small knots on top of my head . Sometimes I forget and go out with one like that

I can't eat sliced bread only fresh cut and I only eat it as bread on the first day of buying it after that I have to toast it and then only for two days.

I can eat whole roast chicken, chicken wings, legs and a kfc mini fillet but no other type of chicken ie no chicken breast/fillet/cubed/strips and no processed chicken

I have to dry my face immediately if it gets wet so I can't get it wet in the shower/bath/swimming pool. If it gets splashed and I can't dry it I have to get my whole face wet equally.

Sometimes when I'm eating something Im not really enjoying (but feel I should eat) my brain will send me a gross thought (like something awful I've read in a book) so I feel sick and can't continue. Never does it when I'm eating crisps.

gettingthehangofsewing · 26/02/2025 02:35

I learnt Annie's song, Michael row the boat ashore, when the saints go marching in and Merrily we roll along on the keyboard as a child. I still play them with my fingers on a table or my leg sometimes.

Powderblue1 · 26/02/2025 02:47

Always say please and thank you to Alexa. Eat burgers and pizza with a knife and fork.

I'm definitely going to be taking a blanket to the cinema now too, what's a great idea!

MarsScarlet · 26/02/2025 04:20

When showering, I only ever turn around in a clockwise direction. To turn the other way would be ... odd. I did that once by accident and had to start over.

wannabebetter · 25/02/2025 22:04

I do this too! I can't remember learning how to do it, I feel like I've always done it & im not even aware I'm doing it until there's a little triangle in front of me!

I do this too!

TorroFerney · 26/02/2025 07:23

TheeNotoriousPIG · 25/02/2025 21:00

I like being single.

I don't have a television and I can't bear the radio because there is too much chat and not enough music!

I count stairs when I'm going up them. It's odd, but useful in a power-cut, because I can always get up and down the stairs without falling!

I hang my wet laundry in the greenhouse. It does a magnificent job of drying clothes and, if I forget to bring them in when it's raining, they stay bone dry in there!

I chat to, and serenade, my pets and the animals at work, with bonus points for any songs that can be related to the animals in question. I just hope that nobody ever hears me, as I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket!

My pets are all given human names (e.g. Steven, as there had never been a pet Steven before, and we don't recycle names).

I have an unusual job for a female. A whole new social group stopped and stared until someone burst out, "Well... that is QUITE a vocation!" which made me laugh.

I count stairs, but I’ve just realised only going up them. I do it at home most which is bonkers as surely I know how many there are! But then actually I’m not bothered about the number I suppose.

InMySpareTime · 26/02/2025 07:27

I make tunnocks teacakes wrappers into foil aeroplanes and fly them across the room.
If I'm eating a Tunnocks in a room with Grownups (the sort of adults that frown at aeroplanes) I keep the aeroplane in my pocket until I'm somewhere I can fly it without getting frowned at.

I was shown by an old boyfriend how to fold any pub snack packet into a triangle when I was about 17. I have done this ever since with most packets and wrappers, even other people’s snack wrappers. It’s tidy.
I have never seen anyone else do it.
My husband and I both talk to our dogs. They understand…..selectively!

I think i know your ex 😃 have a friend that does this, he will even reach across to the next table when the strangers beside us have finished the crisps and fold the bag.
