Just read a sweet comment on The Times website saying that they named their daughter after Roberta Flack (who's just passed away)...

My daughters middle name was inspired by Yuri Gagarin's wife Valentina - He was ace, such a winning smile and his missus supported him big time. She was also mates with another Valentina - the first woman in space.

My big lad has a middle name - Rocco - we absolutely loved Madonna and that's the name of one of her sons.

I remember saying at the time that it would be a reminder of when we were young and liked music etc.

How amusing it is to see that 20 odd years later, that same boy absolutely loves Madonna...saw her last year at the 02. Twice.

Tell me there are Justins (Bieber), Harrys (Styles), Amy's (Winehouse), Sorchas (Ronan), Hermiones (Granger), Zadies (Smith) etc etc out there...anyone wanna own up to giving a child's name bc of one of their heroes?

My child is named after Mo Farah.

TommyShelbysRazor · 25/02/2025 08:51

My youngest.
My husband likes MotoGP. It's a riders name. The rest have "normal" names with some family names as middle names.

DS2 is named after the librarian in Buffy!

Ha...that's funny.

I got talking a young American student girl in a pub about 10 years ago who was called Stevie-Ray after him...cool name I thought, although I didn't know much about his music tbh...

My daughter is Miranda, because she was born in Bermuda, where the shipwreck in The Tempest is supposed to be set.

Classy.

I just hope nobody thinks its after Miranda Hart.

Such fun! 😜

I was named after Natalie Wood.

DS2 has the same first name as an Aussie actor I fancied when I was pregnant.

DelaneysOnTheWineAgain · 26/02/2025 00:55

All mine are named after people who created world famous libraries.

My DS is named after the obstetrician who looked after me in labour and really went above and beyond the call of duty.

My boy was named Nicky (Nicholas) after the little boy on Coronation Street, Nicky Tilsley, had he been a girl he was to be named Kayleigh, after the very famous song that came out that year, Guess the year.

My daughter is named after an actress. I used to watch a show she was in when younger and I was pregnant. When the credit rolled and I saw the name, it stuck and that's my daughter name

User415373 · 26/02/2025 13:05

I wanted to call my daughter Stevie, after Stevie Nicks but my husband vetoed it!
We called her Connie, as we both love the show Nashville and Connie Britton in that. I wouldn't say she's named after her, I just really liked the name after that show.
I always wanted to call a son Ronnie after O Sullivan, but when I got pregnant with a boy (after my first) I figured Connie and Ronnie might have been a bit much 🤣

I have the same name as an opera singer my DF liked.

It's pretty rare in the UK so I rarely meet another one. If I do and they are in my age group we always end up discussing it - and it will turn out their DF liked opera ...

No prizes for guessing my name - I'm named after the lead female character in the film Dr Zhivago. My mum had a crush on Omar Sharif and still watches the whole film regularly!

so is my sister for the same reason

Hang on...that's not her name IRL, is it?!?!?

Gail Tilsley, Helen Worth!

I saw her open a shopping centre in Liverpool with Suzy Birchall in 1975, by the way.

What a life I've lived!

That sounds nice - I like it at the opera, but don't like the actual opera just on telly or the radio or whatever...
