Weight loss jab. They do warn you can get a bit constipated. I’ve not really been since Friday.

I’m so, so bunged up I’ve just had to try and manually evacuate (hell, but if I didn’t I was going to tear I think) and I’m going to have to nip to the late chemist for something. Enema, f**k knows... I’ve taken two senna but pack says they’ll take eight hours.

It’s so painful, and embarrassing, it’s unreal. I even thought in my misery of going to urgent care but what can they do?

Thanks so much everyone xx I’ve managed to go again this evening, had a lot of water and taken another 2 softeners - and stuck another supp up there, as think there is still more dry/hard to come sadly. I’ll ask GP re movicol, something like that or laxido would definitely help. I’ve had laxido before lots when an inpatient so know it works haha. The softeners don’t seem to be doing much so far other than a bit gassy and slightly crampy at times, but fingers crossed.

I did briefly consider douching yes, even thought about the shower thing!! I even thought about asking boots if they sold enemas, but I doubt it.

You can buy Microlax enemas over the counter. They’re tiny but very effective.

Back in the same boat tonight, except 4 days of senna and biscadoyl supps are doing nothing at all. Rang 111 tonight and explained I’m so bunged up I’m leaking, in agony, I’m bleeding and I’ve had to manually disimpact myself again tonight. Very huffy 111 man simply told me nobody needs seen that day for constipation. I don’t think they realise how bloody sore this is 😔

Well he's potentially wrong as you can get seriously ill from impaction!

But glad you've had some relief.

Have had a few bouts of this myself and it's pretty awful...

Get down on your haunches like we did when we fell out of the trees - toilets weren't around then!

Can I suggest movivol, if it hasn't already been mentioned. I've been in your situation more times than I care to admit and the ONLY thing that works when you're totally impacted, is movicol. You need water to be drawn into your bowels, which the sachets do. Drink 6-8 glasses of the stuff over a six hour period and see your reaction. If that still doesn't get you moving, repeat the next day. All the amount of enemas, suppositories, senna capsules etc just won't work when you're that " backed up". Movicol is extremely expensive otc - i paid 16 quid a few months back, but promise it works. Then to keep yourself " regular " drink 1-2 sachets a day for maintenance. I really sympathise - it's the most agonising, uncomfortable pain and not one that people really understand until you've been there!

Well, I’ve swapped one problem for another but at least I’m going 😆 I’ll definitely ask GP on Monday for movicol, hopefully that will get it sorted!

Chemists do sell enema kits. I've seen them in Rowlands. It might be worth buying one online in case of this happening again, if there's none in boots.

Although after a huge amount of codeine a few years back I used a neti pot (nasal rinse pot) and saline for an easy enema fix. It worked very well and was relatively simple to do sat over the loo.

Lactulose is your friend. I’ve been hideously constipated due to medication and lactulose was the only thing that worked for me.

ChristmasLightsLover · 02/03/2025 10:15

Many of on WLI or similar meds have been there. I had a phase of eating Ella's kitchen prune puree sachets each night before bed.

It is another level of pain OP. Well done for all your efforts and for sticking this out. Keep going. And join us on the threads as this is 100% something you do not need to be alone with.
