Help, I am so bunged up I want to cry (TMI)

Weight loss jab. They do warn you can get a bit constipated. I’ve not really been since Friday.

I’m so, so bunged up I’ve just had to try and manually evacuate (hell, but if I didn’t I was going to tear I think) and I’m going to have to nip to the late chemist for something. Enema, f**k knows... I’ve taken two senna but pack says they’ll take eight hours.

It’s so painful, and embarrassing, it’s unreal. I even thought in my misery of going to urgent care but what can they do?

Supporting from afar too OP. I was constipated post surgery and was in so much pain I couldn't walk. Glycerin suppositories worked for me but my god, that aftermath was carnage.

You need a good clear out and then take something daily to maintain. Lactulose worked for me and I believe is good as your body doesn't start relying on it, it's a natural thing.
Good luck

CalicoPusscat · 28/02/2025 09:53

Aw it's horrible being ill. I've had norovirus past few days and can only attempt to keep down water. Usually it comes up!

Good luck

Gettingbysomehow · 28/02/2025 09:57

TMI but shower hose, unscrewed from the head obviously, works a treat and is far less invasive than manual evacuation.

GP rang this morning and said to take dulcoease 4 x a day, two senna once a day plus 2 glycerol supps once a day as well. At work and feeling horrendous.

OMG I'm so sorry, that must be incredibly painful!!

I do think you need to be taking something daily to keep things moving and not wait until you haven't been for several days.

Personally, I only have to look at peanuts and they're in the loo, but there are probably better alternatives like figs and dates or even something like lactulose.

This might be a bit TMI, but that's kind of the basis of the thread anyway. If I have any problem going, I press/push a certain place on my bum cheeks not entirely sure how to describe it, but I'll have a go. It's between the bone in your bum. That aches. If you sit on a hard surface for a long time and your actual bum hole you internal lower intestinal whatever it is must be fairly near the surface there because you can feel it pushing the poo along. For me, it works every time.

Good luck indefinitely put something in your daily routine to keep things moving

seriouslybungedup · 28/02/2025 10:01

My stomach’s rock solid and I feel like I’m going to spew, nurse on 111 last night was asking if I could fart and said if I can’t I’ve got to go to A&E in case I’m obstructed.

Try pressing on your perineum as you push, I worked in Gastro for many years and this was always far more effective than laxatives. Unless the constipation is further up, however it sounds like this isn't the case

I think that’s sort of what I was doing yesterday - I was trying to press on my back a bit. GP was very kind when I started sobbing saying I’ve had to physically remove myself… which is probably the most horrific experience I’ve ever had. I know the injections are helping but I just feel beyond miserable. I’m so bloated and sore it’s unreal. 111 nurse that rang late last night said if I can also try to bicycle my legs a bit or lie in a hot bath. I can’t wait to get home from work tbh.

Good luck. If you are chosing epsom salts (and I have tried ducoease and senna and they are painful for me..epsom salts cause no pain but are a bit drastic) then make sure you don't get the lavender bath ones like I did. Not so pleasant drinking them rather than bathing in them.....

This has made me laugh out loud.

ThejoyofNC · 28/02/2025 10:15

Hi OP I get like this when I'm pregnant.

I was prescribed sachets that you dissolve in water and take 2x a day. They don't taste too bad and certainly helped, also you can use them long term. They're called Cosmocol, not sure if you can buy online or ask your GP for them but they helped me when I was in your exact predicament.

This is incredibly effective. Feels really weird first time round, but if you put your finger a little way into your vagina and press lightly, you can actually feel the poo and massage it out.

chattyness · 28/02/2025 10:30

When you get home try kneeling down on the floor & leaning forwards with both arms stretching out in front of you. I think it's called the child's pose or puppy pose in yoga. Just for a few minutes, some reason this always sorts me out when I'm bunged up and does help ease the pain a bit too

This can certainly help. Doesn't work for me every time but well worth a try

candycane222 · 28/02/2025 10:45

But honestly op i wouldn't stay at work, id go home if at all possible and get to work with some more glycerine suppositories asap. Work don't have to know exactly what kind of upset stomach you have, hopefully they'll think its noro and be only too pleased to have you off the premises

Get the prunes down you op and settle in! We're all rooting for you. Incidentally I actually think prunes taste lovely 😂

Just one prune gave me terrible acid a few days ago. Not what you need when your digestive system is already suffering. (Obviously go for it if you're not prone to acid).

straighthair · 28/02/2025 11:01

I've had the same reaction to the weight loss jab, been on it for a few months now so have worked out what to do for me. I use glycerin suppositories over a few days to ease the constipation. Once you've cleared this, er, backlog, you need to work on a daily routine to help as prevention is far far better than cure!!

I take two psyllium husk capsules a day - one at lunchtime and one in the evening. I tried daily prunes and prune juice but that didn't help me. I also try and drink at least a couple of litres of water a day, especially after taking the capsules.

Different types of laxative work in different ways - I think you want the one that softens the stool so you can push it out - laxido does this. I've got a box in the cupboard in case I get stuck again.

Constipation is something nobody ever talks about but it makes you feel awful, I never realised until I got it. You definitely need to work on preventing it coming back once you've sorted it.

Lastly, I always find constipation is worse for the first few days after jab day, and gets less as the week goes on, so it's worth thinking about whether this is what you experience too, as you need to work on preventing it more at the start of the jab week than at the end.

Hope it clears and you can get it under control.

Sodium pico sulphate was given to my son by the GP for an impaction. Not sure if it’s available OTC but it’s worth a try. Seemed to work combined with a micro enema.

You also can be seen if it’s that bad, not sure why 111 were so arsey. My son was also in a&e once for another impaction that had to be removed by the drs.
(he has severe autism and a limited diet!) go and get seen if it goes on much longer x

iamnotalemon · 28/02/2025 11:36

I had the same thing when I was on the injections. The only think that worked for me was magnesium citrate. (I'm not in the UK so not sure if you can get it easily enough)

Enigma52 · 28/02/2025 11:47

Sympathy OP. I feel for you.
I had my chemo on Wednesday and didn't realise they had given me a strong ( constipating!!) anti sickness infusion.

Feeling very " meh" and bloated too.

I would get home from work and try the suppositories. They are generally effective. If you can't pass wind or start to vomit, absolutely ring 111 or get to hospital. Here's hoping it won't come right that. Hugs.

SnoopySantaPaws · 28/02/2025 12:24

@Enigma52

im sorry to hear you need to be having chemo, I hope it all goes well for you 🌷

My friend didn't get the anti sickness treatment and the vomiting OMG... the anti-sickness treatment is definitely worth having even if it might not feel like it right now

Take care 💕

SnoopySantaPaws · 28/02/2025 12:26

@seriouslybungedup

go home, surely there's nothing so urgent you can't leave???

If you don't want to say what's wrong? Just do as someone else suggested and tell them you think you might have caught the noro that's going around and you don't want to spread it about!!

Go home, take the afternoon and the weekend to sort yourself out xx

Dulcolease. Although I guarantee it will work, but I'm warning you it doesn't take long!

This! The dulcoease capsules are amazing!

seriouslybungedup · 28/02/2025 12:30

I’ve got a staff meeting that I really need to be in for; work in specialist mental health and need to go that meeting as I’ve spent all week trying to get people to do a thing they aren’t bloody doing.

I am still farting at least (if I sit down on the loo and focus) that has to count for something. Chemist rang me and said they have glycerol supps and softener waiting on me.

finish at 4ish and then an hour’s bus ride home 😬🤦‍♀️

@Enigma52 I’m also sorry you’re on chemo, that must be a whole other hell 🩷🩷 xxxx

Enigma52 · 28/02/2025 12:31

@SnoopySantaPaws yes the anti sickness is a must , I agree. Nausea and constipation, are preferable to 🤮

Wonder why your friend didn't get the anti sickness?

Enigma52 · 28/02/2025 12:37

@seriouslybungedup really really hope the suppositories work for you.
Try to keep them in for as long as you can ( lie on your side) Rooting for you! 🌻
