Weight loss jab. They do warn you can get a bit constipated. I’ve not really been since Friday.

I’m so, so bunged up I’ve just had to try and manually evacuate (hell, but if I didn’t I was going to tear I think) and I’m going to have to nip to the late chemist for something. Enema, f**k knows... I’ve taken two senna but pack says they’ll take eight hours.

It’s so painful, and embarrassing, it’s unreal. I even thought in my misery of going to urgent care but what can they do?

Prunes are great! Or lightly scrambled eggs and a strong coffee..I can almost set my clock by them doing the job. Most satisfactory.

Or think of something terrifying that makes you feel really nervous. Like you are about to sit Alevel maths and haven't opened a book since 1991.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 24/02/2025 18:58

Depends on the reason behind the slow movement. It's not ideal to take stimulants longer term but you can take fiber or lactulose much more regularly. Might want to start on the lactulose now to prevent you ending up back in same situation in a few days.

Is it wrong that I am over invested in this thread? I suffer occasionally too. I finally came out of the other side of a nasty episode yesterday. I genuinely thought it’d come out sideways.

Bon courage!

Fibogel orange tasting sachets added to water. Stir it very well. Wait a couple of minutes then stir it again. Pleasant tasting. It works. On Ozempic I take 2 or 3 a week before bed. I go first thing in the morning and once in the night. Drink plenty of water.

Don't take any more 'push' laxatives - the senna will do enough of that but will just cause pain if the other end is 'blocked'

You need to work at the other end - glycerin suppositories if the stool in your rectum is hard or dry. Try to keep it in as long as possible.

If you're getting a lot of cramping trying lying down curled up with a warmed wheat bag whilst you squeeze everything to retain the suppository.

Advice on their use here:https://www.plymouthhospitals.nhs.uk/display-pil/pil-suppositories-how-to-use-them--6294/

Once you are ready to evacuate sit on the back edge of the toilet seat with both your feet on a step/small stool.

Give it a few minutes. If it's not working, stand up and do some deep squats before sitting back down on the toilet again.

Don't stay there too long if it's not happening. Go and have a warm drink before trying again.

Glycerin suppositories for me.

Duclo ease and duocloax did nothing for me. I took 5 dulcoease a day for ten days after surgery and nothing moved until I went for senna max plus glycerin suppositories.

Ilovelowry · 24/02/2025 19:12

And I found walking round for a little while helps with the suppositories.

CherryogDog · 24/02/2025 19:14

Tackle it from both ends, suppositories and senna.

TourangaLeila · 24/02/2025 19:16

I feel for you op!

I've found this on 5mg and really don't want to up the dose in case it gets worse each time!

I am now taking regular fibogel and am trying to massively up my fruit, veg and water.

TourangaLeila · 24/02/2025 19:17

On the plus side, two days ago I lost a kilo by taking a ginormous shit 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

So, small wins.

Karmakamelion · 24/02/2025 19:17

Once you've cleared out daily magnesium citrate is your friend. Good luck! Come back and let us know if it works x

Cherrytreat · 24/02/2025 19:19

It's awful, I sympathise
After having this problem and the laxatives and suppositories didn't work I was panicking, felt like fainting when I went to the toilet. It was more the rectum end was blocked and I was trying to pass a boulder!

If that's your problem, I can give you the gentle way of manually getting it out, but I won't go into it if that's not what you need, it's grim.

TourangaLeila · 24/02/2025 19:25

Oh also, a warm bath might help. You could even go in the bath if it helps with the pain.

I know that's gross but needs must.

Whitegrenache · 24/02/2025 19:26

I had this last week. Had to resort to using an enema I had in for when my horse had a foal 😂 don't worry it was a human one! That came straight out so I ordered glycerin suppositories which worked well but I struggled to keep them in long enough to work so a snapped them in half!! I also took movicol and senna.

Once the hard poo had cleared I had a few days of very loose stools which was difficult to cope with! Now things have settled down and seem to be returning to normal

Whitegrenache · 24/02/2025 19:27

As this is new to me I'm wondering if it's stress related as I am currently out of work and fairly down or is it symptom of menopause??

seriouslybungedup · 24/02/2025 20:14

Thank you Wine managed to go a bit, bloody painful but managed to an extent. Albeit I think there’s probably still more in there. I think manually evacuating was what I did earlier, it was the most horrific experience. I’m just thankful that I waited until home from work before I tried. Hopefully the senna works overnight to shift the rest.

The chemist in Asda was very sympathetic, she had all sorts of kind tips. When I told her I was on the jabs she just nodded sagely and handed me the suppositories - ‘ten minutes, I use these and they do work.’

I wish the leaflet would say constipation to the point you may need to don rubber gloves akin to a vet - it just says it might cause some digestive upset. Upset doesn’t cover it.

I stir these into yoghurt for breakfast to keep me regular. Most supermarkets do them, I find them more palatable than eating whole prunes. It might be an idea going forward

Back in the same boat tonight, except 4 days of senna and biscadoyl supps are doing nothing at all. Rang 111 tonight and explained I’m so bunged up I’m leaking, in agony, I’m bleeding and I’ve had to manually disimpact myself again tonight. Very huffy 111 man simply told me nobody needs seen that day for constipation. I don’t think they realise how bloody sore this is 😔

Blimey. Honestly try epsom salts with several pints of water. The effect is almost immediate. All the other remedies take a while. I've tried them all. Epsom salts are also painless. Google how they work.

You take 3tsps, dissolve in warm water then add up to a pint of water. I add squash as they taste horrendous. Drink loads of water.

RandomMess · 28/02/2025 09:15

What are you taking daily to prevent this happening?

I can recommend take psyllium husks as they help your gut absorb moisture. You need to drink plenty too.

Once you have impacted like this it's going to take a while for your body to recover so you will need to keep up with something like psyllium husks for perhaps the whole time.

Can you get to your chemist to buy glycerin suppositories
They work well and are harmless.

9ToGoal · 28/02/2025 09:28

@seriouslybungedup Add 10g of Inulin to your coffee every day and increase your fibre intake, both soluble and insoluble. They taste awful but Hartley's fruity fibre jellies have 8.3g per pot. Rhubarb is very effective too.

I have IBS and taking inulin has made a massive difference over the last year.

maudelovesharold · 28/02/2025 09:45

My Mum used to swear by coffee, followed by a small glass of orange juice, to get things moving.
As part of my ‘healthy’ snack regime, to steer me away from biscuits etc. I sometimes include a couple of ‘dried’ (but they’re not dry, they’re soft) figs. They’re lovely, could easily eat more, but don’t, due to the (desired, in your case, op) effects of over consumption! (And sugar content).

mommatoone · 28/02/2025 09:46

Nothing really to add other than what people have advised. Just wanted to send a handhold because I've been there, it's fuckin awful🥴. Lactulose worked for me in the end, I felt like had given birth again! Good luck OP, we are all rooting for you.
