Dear all

Posting in this space for traffic, but as the title states, Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust (Southend University Hospital) has knowingly employed a gynecologist with a prior conviction for sexually assaulting patients.
Despite the severity of the offense, which includes 24 proven cases of misconduct, this doctor has continued to practice within the Trust for years. The misconduct originally took place at Guernsey Hospital.

"Tribunal Findings and Allegations
The medical tribunal panel found dozens of allegations against Dr. Shokouh-Amiri to be proven, including:
• Improper Examinations: Conducting intimate examinations without a chaperone present on multiple occasions.
• Unconsented Surgeries: Removing patients’ ovaries without their consent or clear clinical justification.
• Inappropriate Behaviour: Touching, hugging, and kissing patients during consultations, and inappropriate communication such as suggesting a patient join him at the gym."

Yet they deemed him fit to work !!!

Following public outcry, a petition has been launched to demand justice and protect women in South Essex, particularly in the Southend area. Media outlets have already covered the story, and local MPs have raised their concerns. Your support is crucial—please take a moment to read and, most importantly, sign the petition to stand with the women affected.

Together, we can push for change and ensure this never happens again. Thank you.

That's appalling.

Iheartmysmart · 20/02/2025 12:46

Just when you think the NHS couldn’t possibly despise women even more along comes a story like this. But he said sorry so what do we matter.

That's appalling.

It’s absolutely shocking. Patients who have asked to change their consultant are being told they’ll be sent to the back of the queue as well… you couldn’t make this up.

This is a thread the paper should pick up for once.

Dreadful.

There's a similar (but even worse) situation in France, a surgeon with around 300 child victims over several decades. He was tried and found guilty of having indecent images of minors in 2004 - but was allowed to keep working.

The employers need to answer to the victims imo. They are culpable, they had all the information they needed.

Somewhat baffling that the GMC didn’t strike him off.

Pretty sure doctors have lost their license or had it suspended for less.

LionalRichTea · 20/02/2025 23:06

Nothing surprises me having worked in nhs for years

So risk being sexually assaulted by a HCP, or no basic healthcare for you, silly women for questioning the men.

He must feel absolutely untouchable to know that everyone knows what he is, but he's still there and free to do what he likes.

It would be interesting to know what his colleagues think of him.

Jesusisking23 · 20/02/2025 23:18

Part of my job is checking GMC registrations and you would be suprised how many doctors have lots of sexual misconduct allegations on their file yet still can work. It’s incredibly common sadly

Signed. Disgusting. All over local FB, no one can believe it. Deemed 'fit to practise' by a tribunal probably 100% men.

The hospital I had my children in. It’s just appalling. But somehow, not surprising. I am so angry at how lightly women’s safety is taken. Like it means nothing.
