What is your longest time in a phone queue?

womananddog · 17/02/2025 13:04

I have been holding now for 67 minutes - I am currently number one, but the time has rolled into lunch and I have an appointment in 25 minutes. I am very bored and wondered what is the longest time anyone has been held in a queue.

In the last fortnight:
46 minutes, Teachers Pension Scheme.
32 minutes tumble dryer repair service.
I feel your pain. It seems to be worse when you think the music has stopped and someone will speak to you, then it starts up again........🙄

purplecorkheart · 17/02/2025 13:08

About four hours trying to buy concert tickets years ago. Recently, it was 36 minutes at work trying to speak to someone about an fault. That was annoying as they did not even have hold music but this creepy voice saying we will be with you shortly.

Quoth · 17/02/2025 13:08

43 minutes and counting

Well, answer the phone, then.

They do appear to be the worst.

Watto1 · 17/02/2025 13:11

HMRC about 7/8 years ago. Well over 90 minutes.

162 minutes to Tui, had to make change a to the booking that day or loose the holiday. I was about to go mad! I fear I was slightly impatient when they finally answered.

50 minute wait to have a two minute conversation with Personal Independence Payment. Called this week and only waited 20 minutes.

womananddog · 17/02/2025 13:14

@Whydoifeellikethiss There was a long preamble at the beginning of the call about the right to terminate calls - I suspect many people are somewhat frazzled by the time they get through

3 hrs 18 minutes. Sofology, 2021.

I was WFH so just left it on speaker, plugged in, on my desk as I worked and snatched it up when it was finally answered.

The poor young woman who took the call sounded utterly broken. I was nice to her, it's nice to be nice and it wasn't her fault.

Mittens67 · 17/02/2025 13:14

Dwp and Hmrc must be the overall winners in this category surely?! Plus they get bonus points for cutting you off after an hour on hold so you have to start all over again.

I know. I'm always really nice to them and thank them for their help - it's not their fault.

womananddog · 17/02/2025 13:15

@Mittens67 I am going to have to cut myself off shortly to go to my appointment

An hour to BT when I had no internet, they did not fix my problem it took weeks to resolve and an engineer but I had to keep calling and turning things on and off ands going through the script.

It was so fustrating , the stress of it all definitely contributed to my divorce.

TigerRag · 17/02/2025 13:28

About 45 minutes on hold to DWP. Only took 9 attempts

All I wanted to do was update my address

HollyBerryz · 17/02/2025 13:36

About 1.5 for pip.

HMCTS do this too. Worse still quite often you get through to someone with no access to anything and no ability to do anything including put you through to someone who can check the file.

Normally they tell you to email, but you're calling because they haven't dealt with your previous three emails and now the hearing you are calling about in less than 24 hours away.

CrispyK · 17/02/2025 13:40

About 2 hours waiting for someone to come on the live chat. The worst thing was the messages that kept saying something like ‘hang on, you’re almost there’. Clearly the company had a completely different interpretation of what ‘almost’ meant.

MsAnderson · 17/02/2025 13:45

An hour plus to our internal IT department at work. Then you get through to a lad who sounds like he's just woken up.

Onlyonekenobe · 17/02/2025 13:45

One hour 46 minutes for the equivalent of HMRC where I live. The person eventually picked, said "hello sorry for keeping you waiting, how may I" and then disconnected me. I almost wept.

MyDogsLoveCafes · 17/02/2025 13:51

Almost 2 hours to the GP. When I got through finally, they were rude and said I should have called earlier. 🤦‍♀️ Yeah, if only I’d have thought to try 2 hours earlier at 8am! A few times after that I waited over an hour in the queue to them, we just don’t bother trying now.

Also HMRC last year, 50 minutes, but at least after that they were helpful, polite and gave me what I needed.

muddyford · 17/02/2025 13:52

Three hours and ten minutes to the non-emergency police line (101?). Had breakfast, shower and did a basket of ironing while I was waiting.
