I'm actually heartened by the responses on those threads. A few months ago, it felt as though there were a few of us pushing back, quite robustly. I started noticing that I was getting thanks for posters I had never noticed. Now it seems that they are picking up the baton and being joined by many more.

I've come late to some of those threads, and am finding that others have already pushed back against the propaganda, and the threads are overwhelmingly supportive of Ukraine.

The same Carpers (copy and religiously posters) are flooding the threads, but the volume of those pushing back is so much more.

Thank you, does feel like pissing into the wind at times.

More seriously, I was interested by the American "Belle of the Ranch" pointing out that the US President has been called the Leader of theFree World, but the current Leader of the Free World left the White House yesterday on his way to catch a plane to a summit in London....

If democracies are going to survive though we will need to do something about all the misinformation spreading through society.

I don't mean differing views (obviously) but people propagating totally made up facts.

For a start all our official people / representatives need to get off X. Their algorithms are totally skewed so that misinformation can't be effectively counteracted.

We also need a tech stack which is independent of the big american tech firms. Unfortunately any promising UK firms immediately get bought up.

Perhaps something developed and owed by an independent organisation (with charitable status?? though it would have to charge) with the aim of producing and maintaining ethical tech. There is open source but I do worry about security, if contributors were taken over by the wrong people.

Honestly, let the putinists and trumpists spout their shit here, we can then rationally counteract their propoganda so all can see their true colours. Its also a great way for everyone to understand what's going on, ask questions, find solidarity. We have outrun the trolls by a long way, they come and they go, we gave been here three years.

I think we do need to pick our battles though, maybe have guidelines around to what extent we engage with them so we conserve our energy.

I tend to post in waves, right now I'm furious, and that gives me the energy and will to fight every battle. I leave threads without posting though if I can see that many others are already pushing back. None of us can be everywhere.

I feel the same way when MN refuses to take down anti-American hate speech, due to their own implicit bias. They don't see anything wrong with it, so it snowballs, with whole threads devoted to it.

Me too. I think most people don't follow politics and wouldn't have realised how bad Trump would be.

Mark Rutte is live on BBC News just now, still saying he believes that the US supports Ukraine. Claiming that Trump is fighting for a durable peace. He’s describes yesterday as unfortunate and suggests that Zelenskyy needs to find a way to mend his relationship with the US.

Interestingly listening to Ukrainecast Vitali says that lots of people in Ukraine think Zelenskyy should have swallowed his pride and given Trump the “respect” he clearly thinks he deserves.

It's not exclusively to America though. It's the British way to criticise everything, we're famous as the whinging Poms in Australia.

The sheer hatred for the French is on a different scale and mostly from those who've never been there. We even vote for a party in Britain and spend the next four years complaining about them.

No less than he deserves. On reflection and listening to lots of analysis he probably could have handled yesterday better, that said had it been me I think Vance would have had a broken nose! Zelenskyy is a true hero of our time.
