Christ, Trump’s complexion!

I wonder how much the soft power of the commonwealth affects some of the votes?

Re commonwealth, I noticed that South East Asia voted For. I recall some of the members may have been fence sitters before but they seem to be now galvanised against Russia.

They must be starting to doubt whether the US can still be relied to support them vis a vis China. There is a risk they will end up being stabbed in the front and back like Ukraine in this new world order.

WinterMorn · 24/02/2025 18:36

Christ, Trump’s complexion!

He doesn't have a complexion; he has a canvas on which he paints (or someone paints for him) each morning before he goes out.

WinterMorn · 24/02/2025 18:36

Christ, Trump’s complexion!

We know he is orange. But can someone tell me why is he orange?

Is it the Florida sunshine, tanning sunbed, tanning spray? I have a good idea about his hair but his complexion ...

I thought it was interesting that China abstained, would have thought they’d have felt empowered to side with Russia and the US.

Did the US give a reason?

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 24/02/2025 19:22

Like others, I never thought I'd see the day that the US voted with Russia in a war of conquest and genocide.

wholettheturnipsburn · 24/02/2025 19:11

Did the US give a reason?

I haven’t listened to the reasonings but suspect it’s that they didn’t want Russia named as the aggressor.

What's worth more to China, the European market, or the American one? If the world splits and they have to choose, this could be a factor. It's in their interests to keep selling to all countries.

Also, if the world goes to shit, they won't be selling much to anyone.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 24/02/2025 19:33

If Trump slaps huge tariffs on exports from China to the USA, the European market may start to be worth more to them than the US one. Ordinary people won't pay Trump's new customs duty if it is too heavy.

wholettheturnipsburn · 24/02/2025 19:34

@Igotjelly Thank you

Their ambassador always spoke a lot of sense and she was unequivocal in her condemnation.

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 24/02/2025 19:37

Still can't believe my eyes. The US, Israel (engaged in its own war of bringing ruin, no matter how grievous the catastrophe of Oct 7), Hungary and the little, often war torn and ruined countries.

Heart's breaking, and it must be ten thousand times worse for Americans who have loved their country, fought for it, been proud of it and stood for freedom and democracy all their lives and careers, in the military and out of it.

Shattering.

I think I’d really struggle to see my country side with these cretins after being such leaders for so long.

Had to leave early as it’s freezing cold and I have work tomorrow, but what an atmosphere. Massively rejuvenating and I wish I could inject some of it into this thread. Thousands of Ukrainians and loads of Brits, kids, dogs and all in between. The feeling was one of defiance, togetherness and most of all hope. Made me feel like anything could be possible ❀️

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 24/02/2025 21:22

I am so glad of this! Thank you.

@WinterMorn such an emotional scene. So great that you could show support for Ukraine in person, with thousands of other supporters πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦

Igotjelly · 24/02/2025 22:15

Fuck the aggressors.

UN Security Council adopts US-drafted resolution on Ukraine
Some more from the United Nations to bring you.

The UN Security Council has now adopted a US-drafted resolution which calls for an end to the war in Ukraine without mentioning Russia's aggression.

The resolution received 10 votes in favour, while the remaining five members - including France and the UK - abstained.

Earlier, we reported how a resolution put forward by Ukraine condemning Russia's aggression had been adopted by the UN General Assembly (see our 4.38pm post).
Meanwhile, a separate resolution had been put forward by the US and was then amended by European nations to include references to Ukraine's sovereignty.

The WSJ has taken Trump to the woodshed over the UN vote.

A Sad Day for the U.S. at the U.N. - The land of the free votes with Russia on a Ukraine war resolution.

I'm in bits, which is unusual for me.

Thank you for braving the weather @WinterMorn and boosting the turnout, I'm sure many on this thread would have loved to have been there shoulder to shoulder with you.
