What sagas do you enjoy on MN?

Do you enjoy a bridezilla drama, cheeky fuckers bumming free lifts? MIL thinks she's the mum of new baby not grandmum, what about the my mum treats my (infertile) sister's dog better than she treats my human child threads. Or how about the ones where a poster takes care of someone's else's kid and feeds them McD's, the mum then throws a hissy because her kid should have been fed quail eggs and smoked salmon!

I personally enjoy the car parking wars, especially when there's a diagram.

I married a serial killer should I leave?

Any with a diagram, in no way related to first one

gmgnts · 16/02/2025 20:09

I love a good CF thread. And a friends ghosting each other one. We haven't had a good 'What are you cooking for tea tonight?' one for a while. Just saying.

Autther · 16/02/2025 20:22

I like CF threads as long as the op isn't a complete wet blanket being walked all over. Finance, as someone else said you don't get to talk about it in real life with other people. Anything on Christmas, valentine's day, most other annual celebratory days. Mad food ones where people couldn't possibly manage that, two Weetabix and a slice of toast is excessive etc

I'm not a fan of the made-up shite that makes up 95% of the sagas on here.

I like the ones where people find out something they didn't know half the population does differently.

Sitting down/standing up to wipe
Flushing a tampons
Flushing toilet wipes
Brushing teeth in the shower
Washing fruit
Peeling mushrooms

Recently, how long did you sit in the back of the car with your baby?

I laughed assuming that that would be never, turns out half the country are still sitting in the backs of cars (some of them breastfeeding on the move).

😳I don't think I ever have! Not even on the day I brought them home.

murasaki · 16/02/2025 22:07

Diagrams are great, but there has never been, and never will be, one as great as the one on the thread where someone complained about an advert showing a breast and it was totally an elbow, as confirmed by the company in question.

I love car parking ones with diagrams. There was one a while back people went and left car after being warned not to, can’t remember how it ended!

Do you mean the as-it-happens live parking thread where the road was being resurfaced and residents had told rogue parkers not to leave their vehicles there, only to be told to eff off, they'd park where they like?
The OP was posting photos of the cars being hoisted onto tow trucks and all.
Loved that one, especially since I recognised which street it was!

Elbowgate! I've tried to find it but failed. What was the name of the company?

murasaki · 16/02/2025 22:49

It was an underwear company, something with stripes in the title I think. The OP took it in very good part when they responded to her complaint. But her diagram of the advert, as she didn't want to post what she thought was inappropriate material, was epic.

dapsnotplimsolls · 16/02/2025 22:50

Just found it!

Anything about money or class always has the potential to get tasty.

I agree but I think many of these are made up though 🤔

BritishGasbag · 17/02/2025 00:30

I have just realised I have unconventional tastes in MN threads. I like the retro-projection ones eg what would MN look like if you were in the 30s / Victorian era etc?

I also like the ones with best recipe tips including favourite tv snack / cosy autumn dinner / failsafe desserts.

The ones that make me smile are usually those where OP is bursting to share some proud and happy news, esp if they involve a young child’s kind behaviour, or reaching a milestone after a long developmental delay.

Actually anything that reminds me of how large and supportive an online community of complete strangers can be when the stars align!

Oh Christ I've just remembered the one with the sliders on the headboard!!!!

What are sliders on the headboard?

MuddyPawsIndoors · 17/02/2025 09:33

I really don't like sagas.

I'm a one thread and done woman 🤣

I hate threads that run into 'Thread 2/3/4' etc because you can normally tell from the start that the OP has set it up to run on and then they start exaggerating wildly, just to keep people interested.

I normally skip to the end of the last thread, because that's when people tend to wise up and start pointing the BS out, while those who have been invested since thread 1 get arsey because they don't want to admit they've wasted their time 🤭

On that same post the OP was horrified that such a young girl who was dangerously thin was showing her nipple. It wasn’t her nipple, the model was in her thirties and she was about a size ten. She was wrong on just about every point she was horrified about. Very funny. She took it all in good humour though, but that was after she sent a pissy email to the company complaining about nipples. Hilarious.

OuijaBoard · 17/02/2025 09:48

I like the ones where the OP describes some seemingly bizarre, unexplained behaviour from (e.g.) a neighbor or relative or colleague or contact and the replies offer a full spectrum of possibilities, from the mundane to the impossible, plus a load of sleuthing tips. The OP, thus educated and fortified, sallies out on a bout of intrepid detective work and actually discovers the truth and comes back to update the thread.

The ones where the OP posts Swiss cheese and never returns to answer anyone's questions are pointless and time-wasting, though.

I’ve cried laughing at some of the first date ick threads. The chap who threw his head back with the jaw snapping up and down whilst eating. The man who ordered tap water then rummaged through his purse of coins. Skid marks on the bed sheets or towel

My favourite was a 90’s bad date. She stayed the night at his, shared house.
His mate woke him up early as he was due in court.
The fella already knew he was going to prison.
Once last dance before going behind bars….

sixtyandfabulousofcourse · 17/02/2025 10:17

I get very invested also in the missing things ones anyone else remember the missing ironing board? do not think it ever turned up either
Wedding ones are always good everything from who to invite to dresses and so on. the thread about awful receptions needs reviving that was hilarious

dapsnotplimsolls · 17/02/2025 11:12

I also like the MN to the rescue type ones - a song/book/film that someone has been trying to find for years, solved! Also the re-uniting of cuddly toys with their owners 😁

Suzi9989 · 17/02/2025 11:18

Loved the airwrap CF story. The dump and run refusing lift was also a delight.

Also being called selfish as I am a working mum and can not afford be a SAHM! What a 2025 so far.....

user2155340308842 · 17/02/2025 11:37

I like the ones where someone comes on a Style & Beauty thread to chide the posters for being tools of the patriarchy/China/big fashion/the high street industrial complex. And then finishes off by explaining that they, personally, only wear clothing made of (recycled) bin bags and have grey eyebrows down to their knees but everyone thinks they're 20 years younger than they are because 'good genes' and water.

AGodinRuins · 17/02/2025 11:50

I always smile at the 'is this outfit okay for a wedding' usually attached with a picture of a white long dress or something a risqué pop star might gyrate around in. Followed by the inevitable "I don't care if MY guests show up in a Princess Diana puffball gown, MN is weird" gang. And the push back crew who have very specific ideas about what is universally appropriate. Newton's laws come to mind.

BurntBroccoli · 17/02/2025 18:35

I very much love a decent parking thread 😁

TheDevilWearPrimarnie · 17/02/2025 18:43

Anything 'woo'

Christmas seems to bring out the best ones starting with the Work's Parties, then comes the big drama of who goes to who for the Christmas lunch, the big hoo ha of what to buy folks, then all the drama on the day with presents being opened that do not come up to scratch, spouses in the dog house for 12 months plus all the relatives having hissy fits from too much festive spirit meaning all the spite from years ago is finally said!

Ah yes - and also the inevitable work Secret Santa, who spent what and who didn't, and who on Earth thought that furry handcuffs would be a good present for Brenda in accounts.
