Robinchat · 13/02/2025 22:23

Just had a belting curry, shared with other half (and loads left over that will get eaten tomorrow)
Onion bhajis and raita
Prawn puri
Poppadoms and mango pickle
Chicken dopiaza
Vegetable biryani
Garlic nan

Epic. Stuffed now.
What's your order?

Live in Cambridge, there's an excellent south Indian/Sri Lankan restaurant. Lots of really different dishes and I love masala dosai but it suffers if it's a takeaway, much better served in the restaurant.

Can you let me know which one? Visiting Cambridge soon for a week and looking for some good places to eat.

MaitlandGirl · 14/02/2025 04:14

Makai Broccoli
Kadhai Chicken
Lamb Rogan Josh
Aloo Kulcha
Lachha Paratha
Plain basmati rice
Burani Raita
Mint Chutney
Gulab Jamun

(this serves 4 adults)

Meat samosas
Chapli kebab
Chicken and spinach
Chicken liver boti
Chappatis
Garlic and coriander naan
Mango lassi
Masala chai
For 2 of us, all from Curry Corner at Pakeezah Supermarket in Bradford! The most amazing food ever! 10/10!

Ooh, must try there, I think I must be quite close to you and @BeaAndBen. Is it one of those counters where you can buy it cold to heat at home or they'll warm it up for you?

I found a great one of those in an off licence near Heathrow airport when I was working there. Amazing food but totally unexpected. I'd gone in to see if I could get a sandwich and some fruit and crisps as I CBA getting changed to eat in the hotel restaurant and I ended up getting vegetable curry, rice and a samosa instead Grin

My favourite place to eat is Bundobust, also owned by the same people and when we go there, we get a few things, eat some with a beer and take the rest home for lunch the next day.

Usually Chaat, Gobi Manchuria, Palak Kofta, Egg Burji, Paneer Tikka and a Vada Pav. But Prashad also do takeaway so I think we're going to get that next because they do a masala dosa, which Bundo only do very occasionally.

@SiobhanSharpe apologies for the crappy Reach Media link, but I found this about the biggest naan in Birmingham when I was trying to find the name of the big naans you can sometimes get. They sometimes call them family naans, but I've also see them called something funny like sailing ship naan, but can't remember.

Is this the biggest naan bread in Birmingham?

The hunt is on to find which restaurant serves the most enormous naan

@Bjorkdidit
Ha ha, yes, we must all be neighbours!
We travel from Leeds to go there but it's only 15 to 20 mins from us.
And yes, they sell to take away or eat in. The breads are done to order too so always fresh!
My mouth waters just thinking about their chicken and spinach! Took my friend the other night, first time she'd been and she's a convert now! She spent a fortune on food there and to take away, she couldn't stop adding stuff to the order to take away!!! 🤣

MinnieMountain · 14/02/2025 09:10

It depends. Butter chicken if it’s the Indian Indian. If it’s a Pakistani Indian- chicken dhansak, lamb rogan josh and onion bhajis. Always garlic naan.

My friend gets a meal from there once a fortnight, she loves it.

@Robinchat Bundobust is one of my favourites too. Although the dosa at Tharavadu next door are is also hard to beat.

Chicken tikka shashlik Korai
Egg pilau rice
Chicken Sagwalla
Bombay Aloo
Peshwari nan
Mint sauce
Mixed pakoras

TheLadyIsAVamp · 14/02/2025 22:15

Mixed pakora, mushroom saag, south Indian garlic chilli chicken (me) , special chicken tikka masala (him), pilau rice, keema naan. We're fairly adventurous eaters but for some reason our Indian order never changes, I think it's because it's such a rare treat. I always love the random sandwich bag of salad that our Indian sends, so good for something so basic and I'll never understand why. We get free poppadoms or I'd order them too and if I'm hungover I'll commit the sin of adding chips 😅..

Robinchat · 14/02/2025 22:31

We finished the curry off tonight and it was good again. Love that chicken dopiaza.
Really fun reading everyone's favourite orders, lots of things I've not heard of before that I looked up on google.

Can you let me know which one? Visiting Cambridge soon for a week and looking for some good places to eat.

It's called Banana Leaf and is at the bottom end of Milton Road. Lots of very non-standard dishes.
we've also had good food at the Tiffin Truck, Regent St., very central. More like street food so also less usual.
-- and at Namaste Village - good but expensive.

SiobhanSharpe · 15/02/2025 18:21

Sorry, that was for @FortuneFaded .

2025mustbebetter · 15/02/2025 18:25

Chicken Bhuna, special rice, peshwari naan, onion bhaji and some poppadoms

dontforgetme · 15/02/2025 18:32

Veg samosa
Chicken stir fry
Chicken tikka and mushroom balti
Chicken pathia extra hot
Egg fried rice x2
Keema naan
5 x poppadom
Extra mint sauce and onion
Pot of coriander

SiobhanSharpe · 15/02/2025 18:33

@FortuneFaded in Cambridge we're really spoilt for choice. The main casual/ethnic restaurant area is Mill Road.
There are some good Chinese/pan-asian restaurants, we like the Café Oriental Dumpling Bar, Yori for Korean Food on St Andrew's St, and the Yippee Noodle Bar in King St for noodles. Much better than the well-known chain...
None of these places are at all fancy, if you want fine dining there's also lots to choose from. I'll shut up now.

RoundLid · 15/02/2025 18:35

Matar paneer
Chana masala
Tarka daal
Aloo gobi or gobi sabji
Rice

TheLionandAlbert · 15/02/2025 18:40

Chicken nawabi or a dal makhani. I get full too quickly so can’t have any sides.

Bjorkdidit · 15/02/2025 18:49

Ah, but the beauty of 'curry' is that it's normal to take some home with you, so you order sides, starters, whatever you like really, and take some home for the next day.

It's rare that I leave a restaurant without a doggy bag - generally only when I'm away from home and don't have access to a fridge and/or reheating facilities.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 15/02/2025 18:56

Lamb tikka starter
Butter paneer
Peshwari naan
Pilau Rice
Aloo paneer

17caterpillars1mouse · 15/02/2025 19:05

Chicken tikka dansak
Pilau rice
Peshwari naan bread

WeAllHaveWings · 15/02/2025 19:25

Royal Masala (medium-hot)
Tikka Masala x 2 (mild so a nice contrast, 1 is for ds who doesn't do hot))
Chicken tikka starter (for extra meat)
Naan/Paratha/Rice
Veg pakora
Spiced onions and poppadoms

PrincessHoneysuckle · 15/02/2025 19:26

Chicken tikka masala medium-hot.

Plain naan.
Poppadoms

weegiemum · 15/02/2025 20:05

We don't have a curry very often but when we do, we order enough to last all weekend! (Buy on Friday night, lunch and dinner on Saturday and lunch on Sunday - we have a roast usually for Sunday dinner. Often there's enough left for dh to take to work for lunch on Monday!).

So!

Puppadoms
Veggie pakora
Kashmiri korma
Chicken bhuna
Aloo gobi
Aloo channa
Bhindi bhaji
Tara dhal
Pea and onion rice
Chapattis
Plain naan.

Thank you @SiobhanSharpe Plenty to go on. I often prefer recommendations as can feel a bit overwhelmed when there are lots of options!
