Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?

OP posts:
CraftyGin · 13/02/2025 19:58

no

Stealer · 13/02/2025 19:59

No.

IAmNeverThePerson · 13/02/2025 19:59

I hope not. Just realised it’s tomorrow. Hopefully DH is as unprepared as i am.

comoatoupeira · 13/02/2025 20:04

No, I liked it as a child and teenager but now it just seems like a scam
love my dh though and try to do nice things for each other rest of the time!

ayvasili · 13/02/2025 20:13

Yes.. We have a quirky tradition that started in our first year of marriage. We had sold out house and moved into rented accommodation in a new village on valentines day. I was 8 month pregnant and starving, so we wandered into the village to see if we could get some food, and the only place that had space for us was the local curry house.
Cue curry bein our valentines meal of home for the next 22 years! :) maybe not the most romantic of meals, and certainly not a meal if you are existing hot sex afterwards, but we always laugh and enjoy or valentines date and remember the origin story.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 13/02/2025 20:13

Sometimes we do.Were not doing cards this year but we're out for an Indian tomorrow.

BrendaSmall · 13/02/2025 20:15

Definitely not!
Never have done, it’s just another money making scam like Halloween is now, so many people go OTT.

Calyx72 · 13/02/2025 21:16

Yes we have champagne and take turns putting music on, and we give each other a card 😁

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 13/02/2025 21:18

Not really. Dh & I give each other a card, but that's it!

Dressinggownlife · 13/02/2025 21:19

Yes, just another night for date night which we do about every 6 weeks. Tomorrow we are going to the theatre and then dinner in china town. Don’t do presents: but get each other a card and I always get roses.

MrsMitford3 · 13/02/2025 21:23

Depends on what you mean by celebrate.

We exchange cards and usually tokens-I bought a nice whisky for DH and he bought me a bunch of tulips from the flower market in town.
I have always said not to get caught up in the price gauged/overpriced, not very nice red roses. To be fair he brings me flowers a lot!

I bought DH a card with the following sentiment-
Roses are red
Violets are blue
the dog is my favourite
but I love you too...

We don't go out-it's over priced, crowded and I loathe set menus.
We will have a nice dinner at home and some fizz!

custardpyjamas · 13/02/2025 21:25

Yes any reason for a bit of a celebration, and a bottle of fizz, is good by me. At home though.

Fawn87 · 13/02/2025 21:26

Card and small gift and we have a nice meal. We don't go out specially for it or do anything ott though.

Iamallowedtodisagreewithyou · 13/02/2025 21:27

I always get one of the supermarket meal deals and we eat that. Sometimes I get flowers, not always. Nice if I do, not worried if I don't.

Adhikv · 13/02/2025 21:28

Yes - flowers, cards and nice meal. But I’ll take any reason to celebrate. I know it’s a commercial thing and I’d take the cup of tea DH brings me in bed every day over the grand gesture once a year but also no harm in an excuse for flowers imo

LlynTegid · 13/02/2025 21:29

No, in Wales there is St Dwynwen's Day in January.

Notmydaughteryoubitch · 13/02/2025 21:29

Any reason for a celebration in our house - we did ours a week early though this year as we had the day off last Fri so we had a date day and went for a lovely walk and pub lunch.

SpanielsSunflowersSand · 13/02/2025 21:32

Kind of - we don’t give cards and do all the little gifts like teddy bears but we like to cook together so we each cook/bake one of the courses and have a nice meal at home.

wingingit1987 · 13/02/2025 21:34

Yes- husband is working til late but I’ve picked up an M&S dine in deal for when he gets home. We do get each other gift but it’s only about £20 each. I get the kids each something but ive not spent much (£30 on 5 kids). I’ve picked up a little bits like heart shaped nuggets and garlic bread for their tea. I like Valentine’s Day and the kids always like waking up to something.

RickiRaccoon · 13/02/2025 21:34

Just a card. It's just 2 weeks after our wedding anniversary so feels bit superfluous.

rockstarshoes · 13/02/2025 21:36

We've got an M&S meal deal that I'm really looking forward to!

💕💕wagyu beef pie 💕💕

EmeraldDreams73 · 13/02/2025 21:40

Just cards here.

Dh has suggested taking my dds (20 and 16) out for lunch on Sat as a "kind of" Valentine's treat. They're both very single and sad about it, so it's a kind thought and both are up for it. (Normally we only eat out for birthdays.)

MsFrankie · 13/02/2025 21:43

Yes, it's massive here where I live.

InfoSecInTheCity · 13/02/2025 21:52

We get each other a little gift, nothing pricey, just a token of affection. I realised today that it will be our 25th Valentine's Day together this year.

changedusernameforthis1 · 13/02/2025 21:54

Yes, every year. We do cards and presents and find some time to have us time - like a trip to the cinema, a museum walk or a restaurant meal etc.

Although we just got a new puppy so this year we're having a nice take out at home with a film instead as she's not fully house trained yet.
