Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?

OP posts:
IDontHateRainbows · 14/02/2025 06:54

With 3 birthdays in the immediate family this week it gets second dibs, but if I can remember to get a card and/ or novelty gift then yes

coldscottishmum · 14/02/2025 06:54

We used to. On a strict no sex just now due to pregnancy complications and DH explicitly told me at the beginning of the week we won’t be celebrating (because of the no sex I recon). Eye opener!

LandSharksAnonymous · 14/02/2025 06:57

Nope.

But DH has been deployed for three years now and he orders interflora every week for me for a weekend delivery! So technically…I can claim that’s a valentines present? 😁

Ferrazzuoli · 14/02/2025 06:57

DH and I will exchange cards and we're going out for dinner tomorrow night. Note tomorrow night not tonight - he refuses to go out on Valentine's Day itself (busy, overpriced), but tomorrow night is acceptable!

Edited to add we've been together for 27 years.

HundredPercentUnsure · 14/02/2025 06:59

Nope. We used to have a "non-valentines date" the day before/after or the week/before after, but we don't even do that now.

He asked when I wanted to swap cards, before or after work? Definitely after. When I've gone out and bought one. 😆🥴

Together 19years, married for 7 years, exhausted parents for 4 years.

Sid9nie · 14/02/2025 07:01

No. I actively dislike it. If my husband was only making an effort one day a year, he wouldn't be my husband.

CherryBake · 14/02/2025 07:06

By getting married ! Today I'm getting married woohoo !
Been together a few years and decided to be all romantic and do it today .

We do cards and little presents.
We're going to the theatre tonight, to something we would have seen anyway, but also having dinner in the theatre.

I agree with PPs that it's nice to do something for each other and it's not the only time in the year that we demonstrate our love!

MferMonsterSearchingForRedemption · 14/02/2025 07:21

We have a M&S Dine in meal thing.

That is the extent of it.

FlatErica · 14/02/2025 07:23

No, and I've been in a happy relationship for nearly 40 years. We did for a couple of years in university but I think that was the novelty of having a partner + being young.

These comments always come up.

It's possible to celebrate VD and to make an effort throughout the year.

AuntieMarys · 14/02/2025 05:25

So do we! It has to be appropriate...something we've watched on Netflix recently or a reference to a situation we've had. And a poem has to be written inside .....
We are off to the cinema this morning, bottle of Moet in the fridge and dh is cooking.

Ours has to be something we’d ‘get’ like private jokes. I once bought card from the Simpsons ‘I choo choo choose you!’

I noticed the valentines menu is in all weekend so bugger that. We’ll get a take away tomorrow.

Most people don't buy their spouse gifts and cards every day though. It's just a nice excuse to do that. How have you made the leap that giving a gift on one day means you're a crap partner every other day of the year? If anything I'd think it was likely that a terrible partner wouldn't make the effort for valentines day either.

GrammarTeacher · 14/02/2025 07:36

No. I like random surprises (and to randomly surprise) rather than wait for a corporate holiday to do so.
was peer pressured into it at uni. Was told my boyfriend had put lots of effort in, so I got him a really thoughtful present. I was confronted with a teddy bear and chocolate set from Thorntons. Nice enough but NOT thoughtful. When asked what I wanted to do in the evening I asked that we stayed in and watched the Red Dwarf anniversary celebrations with everyone else. No regrets.

K0OLA1D · 14/02/2025 07:36

Not celebrate as such. Card and small token gift maybe. But it's more because it's the anniversary of us being together. 15 years!

WoahThreeAces · 14/02/2025 07:39

No. I'd forgotten it was today until I saw this post 😂

Lentilweaver · 14/02/2025 07:40

No. But we are old and unromantic.

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 14/02/2025 07:40

A card and small gift and he cooks a nice meal. Wouldn’t go out to celebrate or buy flowers because of the hype and inflated prices.

Pumpkincozynights · 14/02/2025 07:42

We are going out for a nice meal in a hotel. We always buy each other a card too.

Why do you need an excuse to buy your spouse/partner a gift or card to show how much they mean to you? Just do it on a random Monday in March or something. It doesn't make it anymore special on Valentines day.

aspidernamedfluffy · 14/02/2025 07:54

Confusedmermaid1 · 13/02/2025 22:40

Not really, it’s my birthday so we celebrate something but it’s all about me 😂 it’s irritating when I just want to go for a meal and the prices are all hiked up though!

I have a December 25th birthday, I feel your pain wrt going out for a meal on my birthday. 😁

Limth · 14/02/2025 08:01

No. I find it incredibly cringy when grown adults celebrate Valentine's Day 😬

Beige flags everywhere.

GameOfJones · 14/02/2025 08:07

Sort of. We don't do cards or presents or meals out but will always share a bottle of fizz and have a nice meal at home. Kisses for everyone in the family and a quick "Happy Valentine's Day" in the morning. And I've bought some heart shaped chicken nuggets for DDs for their dinner tonight..... very romantic! 🤣
