Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?

yes, got some lovely heart shaped chocs and a card

PinkPonyClub25 · 14/02/2025 09:40

No, we show we love each other every day.

NameChangedOfc · 14/02/2025 09:40

Oficially we don't... but we always end up buying something (sweets, chocolates...).

No, I can honestly say I've never given a card to anyone I've ever lived with or see on a regular basis. I mean, I made and gave mothers day cards to my mum when I was in infant school but not since then.

I don't see the point of saying "Happy Birthday" [or whatever] to someone as I physically hand them a card that says "Happy Birthday" inside. I'd rather just say the words.

No, we never really have, probably did cards in the early days but it’s our wedding anniversary in a few weeks so we always said we would wait and do something special for that instead as it’s cheaper and less packed in two weeks time 🤣

Well it doesn't mean he doesn't. I don't get your mindset. A strong relationship isn't built on being bought gifts all the time. It's about appreciating the day to day stuff. Valentines is just a nice thing to do. It doesn't have to come with an agenda. I think you're overthinking. Maybe your own husband is lacking and you find it difficult.

Nope my DP (who I have been with for over 20 years btw), isn't lacking in anything, he got me exactly what I wanted which is nothing. Yep, nothing and I got him the same. If he'd wasted money on flowers that will be dead in a week then I would consider him to be an idiot.

StiggyZardust · 14/02/2025 10:07

No we don't. But this year we have bought a supermarket Valentine's meal deal for dinner! I'm quite excited (easily pleased).

Did/do people you live with give cards to you?
Exchanging cards is something I've grown up doing. It's not as simple saying Happy Birthday/Valentines/Christmas to me though.
There's a lot of thought that goes into the cards we make or buy.
Some of the cards I've been given are beautiful, I've framed some or have gone on to buy more from the artist.
Some are funny or have photographs on them. Others just have a lovely handwritten message which yes could easily be spoken but I find it lovely to have it written down forever.

Not since I was a child, no.

prettybluebell · 14/02/2025 11:01

Yes, going out for a meal and a small gift like chocolate.

Liv999 · 14/02/2025 11:07

Yes, I got flowers and DH got some chocolates and a Valentine mug and bowl set, I even bought the kids some Valentine stuff, it's our wedding anniversary tomorrow too so we're out for a meal

SnowFrogJelly · 14/02/2025 11:08

Yes going out for dinner.. just do cards and maybe small gifts

Easipeelerie · 14/02/2025 11:09

I’d go all out for it if I was with someone who wanted to do that.

Pansypath · 16/02/2025 16:07

We don’t celebrate it as such but we do cards. It’s nice to be remembered. Dh does always ask me the day before whether he is meant to have bought me something though and I always have to reassure him I haven’t got him anything. Always a look of relief on his face that he hasn’t screwed up.
