Is everyone's kitchen as hectic as mine? (Photo)

A little bit outing but I wanted to know if people can relate to this hectic kitchen of mine! It gets cleaned and tidied every day but most things I can't seem to store anywhere as have very little storage in my house, but honestly, does this kitchen seem 'normal' or very unorganized, messy, chaotic etc? Because I'm not sure if I'm being overly critical to myself for having a kitchen like this or I do in fact need to seriously organise it better! (The white blob is my son!) For context I have a husband and 3 children aged 13, 7 and 15 months and work part time.

Giving me major anxiety op!

How can it be messy but clean, open margarine. Items that don't belong on worktops, bottles, cans

I actually think most people do have kitchens like this at certain points in their day and that a lot of people are just too smug to say otherwise.

My kitchen never looks like this.

There are no random bikes or heated airers cluttering it up.

Nothing at all is left out after use - everything goes straight back into the cupboard.

Rubbish goes into the bin or the recycling immediately.

After meals, there is a pile of washing up, which is dealt with after we've eaten.

My kitchen looked a lot like that when I had four children at home including two under 2, really poor mental health and not enough storage.

Starsandall · 14/02/2025 10:43

I don’t like clutter but with kids it happens. But I try and keep downstairs tidy. Upstairs less so. My first thought was why is there a bike in your kitchen? I think it is harder when you have small children and toy paraphernalia everywhere.

Andwhoisasking · 14/02/2025 11:12

It’s a dump - literally. Everything is just dumped where you last used it.

That's disgusting, and dangerous. What if someone came over unexpectedly?

Well If someone came to my house, they would just have to look past all the mess. At the moment I'm doing all I can just to keep myself alive

Yes, that's mess not dirt. Hence messy not dirty! Bottles and cans do belong on worktops, at certain times. Jeez people, chill a little.

Beautiful cat. Have you seen
him recently?

Unclench OP - surface clutter never killed anyone. Bin bag, don’t stop moving till
it’s full. Dishwasher filled. Wipe.

😂😂 Poor cat.

Nannyfannybanny · 14/02/2025 15:34

I couldn't ",chill" in all that "mess" and chaos.

@VintedVirginAlmost Our neighbours always do that. It's really handy because we always know when it's going to rain ... about 10mins after they've hung it out! 😂

Am I your neighbour?

imtheholidayarmadillo · 14/02/2025 16:02

Some pps are going to get a shock if they're ever struck down by serious or chronic illness and have no choice but to lower their standards.

Maybe. But I have a chronic illness which is why I have systems in place all over the house to keep it tidy and clean with minimal effort. I hate housework so I make it as easy as possible.

stclair · 14/02/2025 16:34

Would the clothes dryer fit on the landing with an extension cord? I moved ours there after years of drying in the living room and I am sooooo much happier!

Yep! If I didn’t tidy as I go, I’d not only be physically unwell as I am already, but I’d also lose my mind.

Honestly, all you posters with 'major anxiety' over a messy kitchen.....

I already have chronic illness, that's why I too have systems in place.
The thing is once everything is neat , tidy and uncluttered it's easy to keep it like that.
I also couldn't risk those trip hazards.
There's no drama at all, no idea why people are over reacting to the fact that it's nicer and easier to be tidy!
Probably live in a pigsty that's why 😂

Horses7 · 14/02/2025 18:20

Yikes it would drive me mad - get some floor to ceiling cupboards and send the bike on its holidays.

Hmm1234 · 14/02/2025 18:25

It’s disgusting. You have an outdoor bike right against you dining tables next to the kids toys. Sort your life out!

Comedycook · 14/02/2025 18:27

It looks worse than it is I think. A ten minute tidy by chucking any rubbish, loading dishwasher or sink and a quick wipe down of the surfaces would sort it

My kitchen often looks like a bombs hit it after I've made a big meal...I put a timer on for seven minutes and sort it. It's not usually as bad as it seems once you get going.

Oh and when ds had a bike, I had to keep it in the kitchen...we have no garage or shed.

DogJog · 14/02/2025 18:29

The second pic looks lovely! I used to do home visits in my old job and saw a few ropey houses, with eg frying pan on the floor for the dog to eat out of... but in the past 20 years of visiting friends and family across the country, I've never seen a kitchen so crazily cluttered. If I visited a friend's house and walked in to picture 1, I'd assume MH crisis and would embarrassingly be offering to help tidy or something. I'm not saying this in an unkind way, just to give you an idea of what others might be thinking if they called in when it's like this. I work in a similar field to you so totally understand how exhausting life is but living like that wouldn't help me at all. Hope the rest of the house are rolling up their sleeves too!

Comedycook · 14/02/2025 18:32

Growing up my mum had a friend who worked, had four kids and a depressed unemployed husband who didn't lift a finger to help her. Her kitchen was horrific...I still remember it. Now I'm older, I look back and feel so sorry for her.
