Ok.

Most of us are not in this position.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 13/02/2025 11:05

Why is everyone indulging this goady nonsense? I mean, if you enjoy boasting/exaggerating/fabrication threads that's one thing but the posters who are referencing cost of living, etc. That's really sad - and the OP is getting off on it.

ttcat37 · 13/02/2025 11:05

Genuinely, why do you think that?

There is a lot of hostility and toxicity in some of these posts? Is that how much the existence of people with money annoys people?

JHound · 13/02/2025 11:06

user263758918 · 13/02/2025 09:16

The comments on the renting... the UK is not our home. We are not citizens here and are planning at some point to move abroad again.

Aha! Ok that makes more sense.

Gilead · 13/02/2025 11:06

State Pension 820
Food:200
utilities 123
phone 33
broadband/tv. 48
dog food 32
Petrol 40
TV 14
debt that arse left me 200
that’s 190 left for going out, new clothes (I have a stoma that leaks every so often) books, yarn.
it may seem like a lot but it really doesn’t go far!

You…. Rent???

Yeah, that's odd innit.

Can you come back and clarify OP?

LostittoBostik · 13/02/2025 11:07

Oh sorry, you did

Howmanycatsistoomany · 13/02/2025 11:08

£1301.20 on waxing, Botox, hair colour, etc, and £181.30 on coffees/cafes but no savings? So stupid.

LostittoBostik · 13/02/2025 11:08

But sorry OP, your childcare situation isn't the "usual juggle" at all.

BunnyLake · 13/02/2025 11:08

My monthly spend was bills (utilities, property tax), supermarket food, present for a birthday and that was it. No mortgage thankfully. I stopped spending on ‘stuff’ a few year’s ago and really don’t miss it, it feel’s like clutter to me. I think in all it came to about £1k (maybe a little more because of the birthday but not much). Of course when kids were young there was more spending. I live on very little now and prefer it that way. Makes me feel bogged down when I see a lot of spending by others even if they can afford it.

Nothatgingerpirate · 13/02/2025 11:09

So what....?
Is this a competition or a boast?
I can beat you but don't wanna post it on here 😂😜

She has.

Do you honestly think the post makes any sense? To earn about 8k a month with a job in finance and have all heaps of spare time? Make it make sense 🙏

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 13/02/2025 11:10

I read this as "coffee/cakes" and was genuinely impressed with your cake fund.
Wish I had £200 a month to spend on cake... god I want cake.

Coffees/cafes: £181.30

JHound · 13/02/2025 11:11

GreenFingersHelp · 13/02/2025 10:04

I thought that was obvious.

I don't care about her and how much she earns or spends at all- some anon poster.

I do care that someone can't see how potentially offensive it is and hope she may read and understand.

Edited

Why is it offensive to have a lot of disposable income and spend it?

JHound · 13/02/2025 11:12

DalzielOrNoDalzielAndDontPascoe · 13/02/2025 10:08

OP was only counting top-up food shops and eating out in the calculations.

The sum doesn't include the cost of the 'big shop' at F&M/Waitrose/Tesco/Lidl/Farm Foods, which is presumably a lot more money on top of that.

Oh phew - I should have read properly. That makes me feel a lot better 😄

myheadsjustmush · 13/02/2025 11:12

Erm...okay then. 🤨

BooomShakeTheRoom · 13/02/2025 11:13

Respectfully, I don’t find it interesting at all. I’m not sure why you think people would? We all have income and expenditure.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 13/02/2025 11:14

JHound · 13/02/2025 11:11

Why is it offensive to have a lot of disposable income and spend it?

It's not. But then again, those who actually have and do don't feel the need to brag about it.

thriftyhen · 13/02/2025 11:15

With that level of disposable income and some amount of free time, how much money do you give to charity and how much time do you give to charity?

BunnyLake · 13/02/2025 11:15

Hortus · 13/02/2025 10:32

The OP isn't British and presumably hasn't lived here long enough to realise that here it's regarded as extremely vulgar and crass to boast about how much money you earn and what you spend it on. I expect she comes from a culture where flashing your money round and plenty of conspicuous consumption is the norm and seen as aspirational.
I have no problem at all with high earners on this forum detailing income and expenditure if it's relevant to their particular query or question, but this OP isn't doing that, she has nothing to ask, she's simply listing her expenditure which seems utterly pointless.

I agree. I think it’s cultural. When you live in another country it’s good to be aware of some cultural norms and in this country it’s considered crass to boast about your income and spending, just like the Japanese don’t approve of public nose blowing or wearing shoes in the house.

pippy1958 · 13/02/2025 11:18

You haven't responded to any of the messages asking why have you posted in the first place. What was the point?

Ladyluckinred · 13/02/2025 11:10

I am not talking about the people questioning the veracity.

But those who seem incensed at those who earn and spend more.

There are many lifestyles posted here I envy (nothing to do with money) but I don’t get bitter and toxic about it.

(Also to be clear there are so many different roles in Finance. Not everybody is a high earner nor doing long hours). It’s not clear if this is OPs earnings or what she spends.

JHound · 13/02/2025 11:21

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 13/02/2025 11:14

Bragging or sharing?

I actually like seeing what other people spend in a month. Significantly more or less. It’s interesting.

People share all kinds of things here that bring them joy in life but money is where we draw the line? Why?
