Teething & loose stools???

Since Tuesday my 8month old has been so clingy, upset, and unsettled during the night. Then yesterday the loose stools started! She had 6+ dirty nappies, wasn’t interested in much solid food, is really sore down below and just seemed miserable. I’ve noticed she’s been drooling so much recently, wanting to chew her whole hand and anything she could - just wondering if these loose stools could be teething related? I’m going crazy 😩

Yes they are, the excess saliva causes it I think, happened with all of mine. It’s hard to
prevent nappy rash then but avoid baby wipes as much a possible and lots of baths and fresh air round their bum!

Yes definitely, they produce more saliva with all the dribbling etc and a lot gets swallowed which can cause loose/mucusy stools.

Not a doctor obviously so do keep an eye on any fever/other signs of illness. Any red cheeks? Always a dead giveaway with mine

One of mine in particular always had this when teething
The poo was quite acidic so I was careful to use more creams when changing.

@lesstalkingmorelistening I saw so much online about it “not being related to teething” that I started to panic that something was wrong with her, I have severe health anxiety which doesn’t help :(

@Edenmum2 no sign of fever I’ve been checking that regularly just so much drooling, always wants to be attached to me & she’s got quite a sore down below area which I’m covering in sudocream

My daughters teething poos were completely undistinguishable from her allergy poos. Her dietitian and paediatrician were in agreement that they were due to teeth coming through

@Normallynumb is spot on. I used to be lavish with creams while changing my DDs, it really protects the skin.

@Superscientist That makes me feel a bit better especially seeing as NHS website says it’s ’not related’ to teething made me feel like I was going crazy

@Edenmum2 no red cheeks currently just constant dribble everywhere, she takes her dummy out and a string of dribble follows 😂

@lesstalkingmorelistening her bum doesn’t seem too bad it’s mainly her down below area that’s red / sore😔

Whoever wrote this must never had a teething baby.

Yes, there are plenty of other reasons and you should keep an eye on her to ensure she is not developing something else, but it's a common side effect of teething.

@reluctantbrit I’ve been keeping a close eye on her, so far there’s no fever, she’s still wanting to feed and has moments of happiness / playing . Just so horrible when she’s crying out because she’s sometimes inconsolable and her having so many loose stools did really worry me at first 😣

Don't be surprised if they turn green for a either!

@boulevardofbrokendreamss Thats something I completely forgot to mention! They have been a strange colour but I put that down to the food she’s been having

Red cheeks are common too
I did find the little powder sachets helped a bit. Not sure if they still make them Ashton and Parsons iIrc

My DD had nappy rash with teething. I used yellow Metanium and tried keeping her nappy free for as much as I could to help. I found the Metanium really effective compared to the bepanthan that I usually use

@Normallynumb I’ve been using calpol and a teething gel that hasn’t seemed to be of much use so might try these powders instead see if they give her any relief

I was desperate to do anything to help soothe them!
They were so miserable.
I hope she's feeling better soon

Also called Baby cocaine according to my husband.

DD defintiely loved it, not sure if it was because it really helped or the taste of it. But she was happy for 10 minutes.

We flew once to see family when she was teething badly and I put the stuff into the hold luggage, I felt like a drug smuggler if it would have been in my handluggage.

She’s quite warm to the touch but has no fever I checked and it’s 36.8 so I think her gums are really giving her hassle😔 I hate seeing her like this

I found ibuprofen more helpful than Calpol for teething tbh it seemed to be better at bringing down the inflammation

Cheapest! Pharmacies usually have own brand ibuprofen and some bigger supermarkets. Failing that nurofen in brand leader and you can get it most supermarkets even smaller convenience versions
