What is THE definitive 80s song?

Might not be your favourite, but what song encapsulates the 80s for you?

We've been having a debate at work, and the consensus is it's got to be Bonnie Tyler's 'Total Eclipse of the Heart'.
It is the 80s right?
There can be no argument, it's got everything - weird music video, Bonnie's hair, makeup and fashion.
And the pure power ballad vocals 👌

Agree?

The Safety Dance

The sound of the 80s in a song nobody remembers by name but everyone knows instantly when they hear it.

For some reason that leads me straight to Land down under by Men at work.

They do have a similar vibe.

The First Picture of You by The Lotus Eaters

Incredibly difficult to choose one, so many incredible memories associated with lots of 80s songs.

Just can't get enough by DM on Radio 2 right now. Wonder if they've been reading the thread.

Kept off No 1 by What's a matter you

At least Midge took Band Aid

It's actually John Lennons fault that Vienna didn't make No1. If he hadn't been murdered, Imagine and Woman would never have been re-issued and Vienna would have peaked earlier and have a decent run at No1 and Joe Dolce would probably have knocked Vienna off No1 after 2 or 3 weeks.

Don't You (Forget About Me) By Simple Minds.

It had everything. And of course was the soundtrack to an epic John Hughes film.
One of my favourite bands still….

Human League "Don't you want me"

I agree. It started the decade in style. Hard to beat.

Brilliant song. I always ask for this at weddings, 21st birthdays etc. No DJ ever refuses to play it. (As opposed to the wanker who refused me Bob Marley at my own wedding cos 'nobody will dance')
