By this Saturday at 12.00pm. What does that even mean?

Good. I agree they need to be released immediately with no further negotiations with the terrorists,

dairydebris · 11/02/2025 19:02

Bbc news now reporting Netanyahu saying ceasefire will end and they'll return to intense fighting unless hostages returned by Saturday.

Terrifying to think of what Palestinian civilians are about suffer if Hamas don't just return the hostages.

Although I'm sure there will be many on here who will blame Israel for Hamas not returning the hostages...

Praying for Hamas to just do the right thing for once 🙏

I don't think hamas have any more left. They said they didn't have 40 alive during discussions before, and the last 3 looked in a bad enough way, I can't imagine there's many or any more left alive. I'd assume trumps worked this out too but obviously sounds like he's got plans that he's working towards.

The three newly released have mentioned others who are still alive, or were on Saturday morning at least. Eliya Cohen, Alon Ohel and the Berman brothers would be enough for another week, if nothing else. Like you, I'm not optimistic there are as many still alive as claimed. I'd already guessed Shlomo Mansour was probably dead, for example.

So I'm inclined to think it's because Hamas have clocked that they might not like the implications of sending more hostages out looking like concentration camp survivors. Which they are, I suppose. They're running a mini one right there in the tunnels.

I blame Israel for continuing to shoot Palestinians when there was supposed to be a ceasefire, I blame Israel for displacing and killing Palestinians in the West Bank during the ceasefire, and I blame Trump and Netanyahu for cooking up nasty plans.

What are your views on them?

They probably don't have enough food for them. They're hardly able to keep them in five star facilities given the environment has virtually been flattened.

Not enough food for about three dozen hostages max and potentially less?! This is vanishingly unlikely, given all the people surrounding the three men on Saturday who looked well fed and in some cases overweight.

Starved people, and we know that includes all of those for whom there's recent publicised proof of life, need their calorific intake raised slowly and carefully anyway.

The kidnappers ate the rations of the hostages presumably. Kidnappers can be selfish like that.

Yes, I think we have to consider the very real possibility that these kidnappers and de facto concentration camp guards are not nice people.

Fifiworks · 11/02/2025 20:41

I think it’s likely that the hostages were starved purposely and likely suffered more as they looked crushed in spirit.

Ths photos of the handover said to me that in Gaza, Hamas gets to eat. We know already that starvation is happening there which makes for a very fertile recruiting environment for Hamas, Fight or Die.

I feel sorry for the rest of the hostages and the Palestinian people. It’s not very positive for either of them right now.

anniegun · 11/02/2025 14:53

Trump is happly going along with Israel's genocide. He is fine with non-white people dying from American bombs

You do realise there are Arabs in Israel and even in IDF?

Release all the hostages. Imagine innocent people being held and tortured for over a year already. What monsters.

whatwouldyoudoifisangoutofkey · 11/02/2025 20:52

The hostages are innocent .
But I wonder how many of the thousands of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons without trial are also innocent ?
If they are being fed and treated with respect ?

"In April 2022, there were 4,450 Palestinian security prisoners in Israeli prisons – including 160 children, 32 women, and over 1,000 "administrative detainees" (indefinitely incarcerated without charge).[4] According to B'tselem, since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war on 7 October 2023, Palestinians prisoners with Israeli citizenship have been stripped of many of their rights.[5] It further found that abuse of detainees is so institutionalized that the prisons should be called 'torture camps'.[6]"

Did Israel actually break the ceasefire terms - or did Hamas just say they did? It's not like they're known for their truth-telling capabilities.

I suspect if all talk of ethnic cleansing stopped, and if Israel appeared committed to the ceasefire, that the exchanges of hostages and Palestinians held by Israel could continue. I am no supporter of Hamas or any other terrorist organisations, but once Trump and Netanyahu started their talk of "Gaza Riviera" I think we could all predict what was going to happen. By the way do you think all that real estate talk whilst hostages were still in Gaza was coincidental?

I have friends whose kids are in the IDF. They've been guarding aid trucks for months - with the intention of preventing Hamas from looting them. If there's starvation going on, lay it at the door of those well fed terrorists.

I was wondering if it was just reliance on Hamas saying this too

tiredoflondonbutnotlife · 11/02/2025 21:32

@EasternStandard I did do a quick online search earlier today to try and corroborate Hamas’ claims but I just found news outlets simply requoting them. Israel might have broken the ceasefire but I’m unsure if they really did - and how.

Nevertrustacop · 11/02/2025 21:36

So according to the released hostages there were maybe 4-5 others still alive at the end of last week? Presumably in a worse state than they themselves were. So they could easily be dead by now, hopefully not, but possible especially if Hamas have been trying to fatten them up for release.
Israel and the US will know this. The hostages were the only leverage Hamas had. Wtf were they thinking on 7th October?? They MUST have known annialation was the only possible outcome.

SwanFlight · 11/02/2025 21:36

Trump should buy Jerusalem and put up a lovely big Trump tower. Or all of the Middle East. He deserves it for free as he is the second coming.

Fifiworks · 11/02/2025 23:33

@tiredoflondonbutnotlife
There was also a lack of aid. That’s just a fact.

i’m not surprised Hamas are not returning the hostages. Netanyahu and Trump were fairly clear that the ceasefire would not be holding and that everyone would be cleared out of Gaza anyway.

The hostages are literally the only “chip” that they have. There is no incentive to let them go now.

I’m think that the fighting will resume on Saturday. If they can they’ll let Palestinians flee Gaza this time. And anyone who stays will be considered Hamas like it was with the north. If they can’t leave well god help them, and the hostages too, they are in a hostile environment within a hostile environment.

I hope I’m completely wrong.

OwlInTheOak · 12/02/2025 01:40

snookiesnax · 11/02/2025 20:22

They had enough food for the other hostages and themselves. And lack of food doesn't require the men to be branded or locked in oxygen deprived rooms too small to stand in. Don't try to justify torture. You can support Palestinian civilians without excusing terrorists torturing people.

TreeSquirrel · 12/02/2025 09:07

The problem is Israel have already bombarded Gaza for almost 18 months (at huge human cost) and haven’t managed to get many hostages out. I’m not sure how they will succeed this time.

bombastix · 12/02/2025 09:22

This is predicated on the idea these people are alive or in a fit state. My assumption is Hamas will have a big problem and it is not a question of "we won't" more "we can't".

In fact the release not happening probably suits the wider agenda. Israel does not want a long pause before resuming the levelling of Gaza. Support for Hamas is rapidly declining. The Palestinians have no effective representation at all. The military opportunity to occupy and level Gaza is now.

In other words Israel and the US will not wait. And Hamas will have no more time to make a deal.

dairydebris · 11/02/2025 14:34

WHAT are you talking about?

At the cost? There's no cost to giving hostages back! It's the right thing to do! What are you even arguing for?

Just give the hostages back! Then no annihilation!

You really think I don't want the hostages back ?!? Of course I do! But I also don't want thousands of innocent lives to be lost because of a terrorist groups inability to follow through with what they promised. What I am saying is I thibk there must be an alternative way to get the hostages back without the cost of extra innocent lives.

What you on the other hand sound like you are saying is fuck all those thousands of innocent lives that will be taken through your calls for annihilation. You do realise that every life you are wishing destroyed is not a member of hamas?

If.i was you, I would seriously take a long hard look in mirror and question at what point you lost your humanity and empathy.
