Amandaland - location confusion?

Cardiganray · 08/02/2025 23:01

Can anyone clear up for me where Amandaland is set? They talk about South Harlesden ‘so ha’ but then it’s the Hounslow football team? These are totally different parts of London. Am I missing something?

What I have noticed when watching any tv series set in any town you know is that it’s always wrong. But that’s because of how filming and locations work, so I’m not hung up on that.

I’m guessing Anne has left the baby at home while taking the older children to football. Also it is mentioned that children play for that team, including Della’s children. Amanda gets her kids to play for that team so they have the chance to meet Della’s kids and Amanda can brown nose. As they are driving I guess it must be a distance.

I've not watched it but Harlesden is about 10-15 minutes north eastish of Acton and Chiswick is about the same but south of Acton. No idea why they'd be playing football in Hounslow

Chiswick is actually within the London Borough of Hounslow.

There was a piece in one of the newspapers the other day - the shooting locations are all over London. I always thought they were in Acton in Motherland, so was surprised to hear them say Chiswick - but they are only 2 miles apart. I just suspend disbelief about those things and enjoy the show!

Have none of you watched any of the Harlen Coben series on Netflix? They're hopping all over Manchester centre, turning a corner and they're in Bury, then down the road they're in Bolton, then around the next corner they're in Cheshire.

Absolutely this!

And It's a Sin when London was most definitely the Northern Quarter and New York recognisably Liverpool.

Belief must be suspended 😆

I thought motherland was set in Acton and the kids were all going to ‘boundary road academy’ or some Catholic school with nuns, and Anne had a bigger house with a garden and lived in Acton? They’re now in ‘SoHa’ and Anne’s in a smaller house and has Darius and two other boys called Finn and Owen but she had a baby girl called Niamh in Motherland?

So are we supposed to think that at the end of y6 for Darius, Georgie, Liz’s eldest, Jade and Ivy , in the Motherland timeline, that Liz, Kevin, Julia stayed in Acton , Anne moved to ‘SoHa’ and Amanda moved to Chiswick and remarried - so her second marriage, the divorce isnt the same divorce as Jonny?

I did wonder where Anne's babies had got to?? she had two babies in motherland.

South Harlesden and Hounslow are about eight miles apart. It’s not that far.

It is in London.

As someone who's had a flat in the most southern street in Harlesden for over 20 years, it's the area about Willesden Junction station. It's not Wormwood Scrubs which is way below Harlesden and in a different borough - Hammersmith and Fulhem; Harlesden is in Brent. Nor is it North Kensington which is to the south east of Harlesden. Harlesden was murder capital about 20 years ago (drive by shootings etc but targeted not random) and is still rough but at the station in the morning you now see lots of young professionals as it's affordable.

Let's just enjoy the sitcom. Good job there is not a thread about filming locations for the Good Life or Only Fools and Horses!

It's only the bloody telly. What's wrong with all of you? If you want to obsess over pointless stuff where is the Chelsea training ground?

this research/ chat about the areas just adds to my enjoyment !! I have actually been on Google maps looking up all the places and been on right move looking at houses , I live in Lancashire ffs. Listen I need something to do when I’m hiding from my feral toddler in the bath with a wine 👀😆

Not bothered by the location stuff but WHERE are Anne’s other children?! It’s such bad writing to just leave them out!

Ha! Just seen this thread was picked up by the Daily Fail. Very amused they asked the BBC ‘for comment’ 😂

Fair enough, my apologies @KindLemur, I'm obviously too London centric. Amandaland is West London, much of which is tooth-achingly expensive. Harlesden and Hounslow are at the lower end of the price scale. Amandas, increasingly, find themselves forced by price into these areas. Avoid Hounslow if possible, planes take off and land from 4am, every 90 seconds. Unbearable.

The football club looks very much like a club in Ally Pally to me.
