Plenvu help colonoscopy

I am having a colonoscopy next week and have been prescribed plenvu. I am so nervous about it!

I am having a morning procedure, they’ve said to take the first sachet at 6pm and the 2nd at 9pm.

my worries are:

how the heck am I going to drink a litre of fluid in one hour (500ml over half an hour of plenvu then 500ml of water after)

the nurse said if you can have more then please do - aim for 2 litres! I’ll be sloshing!

I then obviously have to do it all again a couple of hours later. I’m so worried about being nauseous and puking it all back up.

when does the pooping stop? If I don’t even finish all the liquid until 10pm, how long can I expect to be up until?

Will I still need to carry on drinking throughout the night? And if I do, will I be up needing the loo or will that have stopped and I’ll just be peeing?

can I expect to still need to pee during this process?!

is it safe to have something like Lucozade sport given the plenvu is electrolytes?

sorry I am so anxious about this part! Once that’s over I guess I get to be anxious about the procedure - yay lucky me!

@flappingsoles yeah it's bloody sore now😥

flappingsoles · 11/02/2025 00:29

Ive made it to 28 past the hour! I hope this is good news and I can go to blimmin’ sleep.

Bless you ♥️ last thing you want is anything up there tomorrow when it’s so sore… god knows how I’m going to deal with that as even patting it is burning. Feels like paint stripper is on it.

Hope you get some sleep. I've just been again that was 20 mins. Feel like I'm on for a night of it! Hope all goes well for you tomorrow

I’m very tired now so I think I’m going to pop to the loo and try and get some sleep. It’s been 40 minutes which is the longest I’ve gone.

sanitary pad on and hopefully I’m not making a mistake and wake up in a puddle.

good luck to you too 🩷

Had water a couple of times when I’ve woken, bowels are gurgling again! Too cold to get up and use the bathroom. I expected to still go again but I wasn’t expecting the gurgling to restart!

why does nobody tell you when this stuff wears off?! You must metabolise it or crap it all out at some point. At this rate I’m worried I’ll still be going in 3 days time!

OP posts:

I was up until 1.40 with it, then woken at 4.15am with another massive load!!! How is that even possible. I hardly eat as it is and I literally had half a portion of rice and 2 slices of white bread yesterday. I've just been again although there is not as much as far more wind but I'm booked in for 7.30 and have a 20 min drive which I'm not looking forward to. I'm so sore I'm worried gas and air won't cut it

Mumofgirls83 · 11/02/2025 06:49

@flappingsoles I'm also still freezing!!!

flappingsoles · 11/02/2025 07:34

@Mumofgirls83 oh bless you! I’ve been twice this morning and need to go again but as you say there’s some wind there now rather than just liquid. Still gurgling and my butt is really sore too, bleeding again from the haemorrhoid.

I really hope it goes well for us all!

I’ve heard some people get given local anaesthetic on their bottom if they’re really sore.

do you think we’ll still be pooping after the blooming procedure?!

OP posts:
Mumofgirls83 · 11/02/2025 07:42

@flappingsoles I really bloody hope not 😂

I'm waiting to be called in now. Already running late and I feel like I can't go to the loo in case they call me in!

flappingsoles · 11/02/2025 07:46

Oh I’m sure there used to people going to the loo! They’ll just call you again a few minutes later, or let the receptionist know. You need to be comfortable 🩷

flappingsoles · 11/02/2025 07:56

I’ve lost 3lbs 😂 not surprised

OP posts:
Lillipops · 11/02/2025 07:59

@flappingsoles I've lost 3lb too!! The only plus side. I was so thirsty through the night I was drinking water but then running to the loo again....seems to be just water but still when will it stop?

flappingsoles · 11/02/2025 08:08

I’m suspicious about why they don’t tell you! I can’t believe some people only take this stuff a few hours before they go to hospital! No wonder our hospitals have us start so early.

OP posts:
Lillipops · 11/02/2025 08:24

I'm not due in until 10am I'm hoping it will have passed by then 😱 still gurgling and I will need to pass water again. It's good 40 mins to the hospital too. Hope you all get on ok ladies, I'm pretty sure they will have seen it all and we are worrying over nothing. That's what I'm telling myself anyway!!!

flappingsoles · 11/02/2025 08:39

@Lillipops bless you, did you get much sleep? I last went to the loo 40 minutes ago, can’t believe it’s still going tbh. I have to leave shortly

Mumofgirls83 · 11/02/2025 10:12

@flappingsoles @lillipops Good luck. I ended up with a sigmoidoscopy and had no sedation or gas and air. But am very windy now! Got the all clear then and there phew.

Hope you both get on OK and are feeling better now.

flappingsoles · 11/02/2025 11:15

Amazing well done!

I had a full colonoscopy, I think they took a biopsy of the small bowel as well but I can’t remember as it was right in the thick of the sedation. I remember seeing blood from that. And they took random biopsies throughout. Haemorrhoids seen but otherwise looked good. He wants to look at bile acid malabsorption tests next.

im in recovery at the moment, feeling a bit drowsy / slow but fine. I haven’t felt windy at all yet! Which is odd?!

Hope you’re ok? Xx

CointreauVersial · 11/02/2025 13:22

Phew - well done - you can relax now. An afternoon on the sofa is definitely required. I was told that for 24 hours after sedation there was to be no driving (obviously), no important decision making....and no cooking/using knives/appliances! So whooppee, someone else gets to do dinner.

The other good thing is you won't poop until tomorrow at the earliest, because there's nothing in there.... 😂

flappingsoles · 11/02/2025 13:41

@CointreauVersial thank you! I’m feeling very tired now after some food. My tummy is gurgling, not sure what’s going on there. I haven’t farted AT ALL which seems bizarre. I don’t feel like I have gas. Little nap soon I think!

OP posts:
Lillipops · 11/02/2025 15:15

Hi ladies we survived yay!! I had the sedation and painkillers. I still feel slightly high I'm slurring my words slightly 😂 procedure was fine I was in the colonoscopy room for 45 mins they checked the whole bowel to the small intestine. Got the all clear but they took a couple of biopsies to prove it was all ok which was fine. I hardly slept last night I was still passing water at 9am but bizarrely once at the hospital it stopped. So relieved!! Well done everyone and thanks for the support it was needed. Xxx

Fernticket · 11/02/2025 15:31

Very glad to hear that all of you are ok. Have a nice restful evening and hope you all feel better tomorrow.

Mumofgirls83 · 11/02/2025 15:37

@flappingsoles @lillipops Pleased both of your procedures went well. More invasive than mine, I'm sorry 😞

I went to work, had a lot of gas and still had some runs although not a lot. Haven't really eaten as not felt like it and the little I've had (a ginger biscuits with a cup of tea and a slice of toast) has had me running to the loo. I don't know why that would be. Luckily I work with my mum and sister.

Hope you both get some rest. I have my youngest to pick up at 4.15 from school and my husband finishes work at 5 (although he is WFH) then I think I'm going to try to rest. I'm shattered after 2 hours sleep.

Thank you for all the support. Really needed it last night. And thank you @CointreauVersial and @Fernticket for checking in xx

flappingsoles · 11/02/2025 17:30

@Lillipops amazing! Really pleased for you. Hope you get a good night’s sleep!

@Mumofgirls83 blimey work? You’re brave. I have literally passed gas once. I googled it and apparently if they use co2 your bowel tends to absorb it and it’s much less painful. I had co2 so that makes sense.

I haven’t really eaten either, had some eggs and toast. But dinner is just being served. I did have to go for a tiny bit of loose stool about an hour ago as well.

thanks for the sharing ladies. It was so helpful 🩷

flappingsoles · 11/02/2025 19:42

Oof not sure I could handle fish and chips, I feel all gassy now I’ve eaten dinner!

Hope it was delicious!

can’t wait for bed tonight
