Plenvu help colonoscopy

I am having a colonoscopy next week and have been prescribed plenvu. I am so nervous about it!

I am having a morning procedure, they’ve said to take the first sachet at 6pm and the 2nd at 9pm.

my worries are:

how the heck am I going to drink a litre of fluid in one hour (500ml over half an hour of plenvu then 500ml of water after)

the nurse said if you can have more then please do - aim for 2 litres! I’ll be sloshing!

I then obviously have to do it all again a couple of hours later. I’m so worried about being nauseous and puking it all back up.

when does the pooping stop? If I don’t even finish all the liquid until 10pm, how long can I expect to be up until?

Will I still need to carry on drinking throughout the night? And if I do, will I be up needing the loo or will that have stopped and I’ll just be peeing?

can I expect to still need to pee during this process?!

is it safe to have something like Lucozade sport given the plenvu is electrolytes?

sorry I am so anxious about this part! Once that’s over I guess I get to be anxious about the procedure - yay lucky me!

@Lillipops have you got an electric throw? I managed to get under one of those and that helped. Or a husband to wrap himself around you? Or wife for that matter!

I’ve been passing water since the third bowel movement if I’m honest. Still going every 5-10 minutes here

I lasted a whole 15 mins this time before having to go again. Far less water volume than before though so hopefully the end is in sight!

Still freezing. Got Netflix on and watching in 2-3 min intervals mainly!

Mumofgirls83 · 10/02/2025 22:35

@lillipops good luck for tomorrow, what time is your procedure?

@Mumofgirls83 i hope so! What time was your first prep? My husband is moaning that he wants to go to bed and I said not until I’m ready 😂 I hope it’s not much longer though. Every time I think it’s slowing down I have to go again so I’m not holding my breath.

I couldn’t get the nurse to tell me when it’ll wear off, I got the impression that every bit of liquid I swallow will come out my butt!

Ugh.....Good luck, ladies.....that'll be me next month. I have a colonoscopy every two years, and they never get easier. It sounds like you are over the worst, at least. Hope you get a bit of sleep. I put a plastic sheet on the bed (left over from potty-training) and it meant I slept better because my subconscious wasn't fretting about accidents (in fact, it's unlikely to happen; it was all in my head).

Plenvu is definitely one of the better preps - the first time i had one they gave me Moviprep, and the amount of liquid you have to drink is unreal. A bucketful! I was gagging the whole time trying to get it down.

Interestingly, I have an 8.30am appointment, but have been told the take the second dose at 5.30am that morning. There's a real prospect I will have to get the bus to the hospital, which could go horribly wrong....😬

And I'm definitely having sedation. I slept through both of my previous ones.

Mumofgirls83 · 10/02/2025 22:49

@flappingsoles I took my first prep at 5pm and second at 8pm. I haven't eaten since 12.30 though and had only water and one cup of tea since then. My husband can sleep with the lights on and the tv going so he is already in bed asleep with me getting up and down and watching TV 😂

Mumofgirls83 · 10/02/2025 22:50

@CointreauVersial everyone is having sedation! I feel like I've missed a trick! My consultant was all for gas and air and I wasn't keen to be sedated. Have I made a mistake!

flappingsoles · 10/02/2025 22:50

@CointreauVersial thank you! Haven’t been in the throne for 25 minutes, I think it’s a new record (but don’t feel empty either… still hoping to be done by 11:30!)

are you Plenvu too? That sounds very close to yourbaoooibtment time! After my very recent experience, I don’t think I’d be able to stop the clear liquids at that point due to the dehydration let alone have stopped using the loo!

Good luck 🩷 feel free to post here for moral support

@Mumofgirls83 ah same as me except I finished eating at 1pm. Hopefully we are about the same then and can sleep at the same time too!

haha brilliant. Mine is watching tv on the sofa next to me very grumpy. I might risk going upstairs soon. We have a new very pale landing carpet that I am loathe to risk ruining!

Mumofgirls83 · 10/02/2025 23:03

@flappingsoles I've been clear a good 30 mins so far. Going to give it half an hour and then hopefully get some sleep. What time are you being seen in the morning?

Lillipops · 10/02/2025 23:08

I've not eaten since 8.30am I had some scrambled eggs, I was told not to eat anything after 9am. My appt is at 10am. I think the worst is over I'm just passing water now. Still going every 20 mins though. I do have a heated throw but it's in the cupboard of doom and I darent start raking about for it 😵‍💫 still got gurgles here too. The heating is on I think my fiancé must've turned it up high, he's given up waiting for me so is coming up to bed too. Good luck to everyone tomorrow, it's been nice having you all to chat to during this grim prep!

DazedAndConfused321 · 10/02/2025 23:13

Practice by drinking the same amount of water in the same timeframe- you'll find it's not so bad! Keep distracted, comfy and cosy. You'll probably wake in the night for trips to the loo but it's certainly not unmanageable for most.

flappingsoles · 10/02/2025 23:13

@Mumofgirls83 i made it half an hour then needed to go again but less than previous. Going to do the same, see how I go over the next half an hour or so. I’m still fairly perky so I don’t mind. All those bloody electrolytes 🤪

my admission time is 9am.

@Lillipops ah bless you you’re an hour behind us so hopefully not much longer and your tummy will be quiet.

mine has just started rumbling for food so I hope that means it’s finally bloody empty of liquid and I’m over it!

good luck to both of you and feel free to post overnight / tomorrow and deffo let me know how you both get on!

May we all have painless procedures with no complications and perfect bowels with nothing wrong with them 🙏

So sorry- didn't realise you were starting so soon! Ignore last post 😅

flappingsoles · 10/02/2025 23:27

Darn still going.

not ready for bed yet then!

OP posts:
Mumofgirls83 · 10/02/2025 23:28

Also still going here

Lillipops · 10/02/2025 23:34

@flappingsoles @Mumofgirls83 things have definitely settled down I'm going to stay up for another half an hour or so just to be sure. Good luck for tomorrow ladies I'm hoping we are by the worst bit getting the prep done. I was just having the procedure as I have psoriasis pretty bad and dermo wanted to change my medication but the one they want to change it to could trigger Crohns or Ulcerative colitis if it's already underlying. The stool samples highlighted high levels of inflammation so here we are. I've had zero symptoms so I'm hoping it's nothing. Hope all goes well for you all I'll report back tomorrow 😊

spikefaithbuffy · 10/02/2025 23:36

Can you have electrolyte drinks alongside it?

I've got to do this for my endo operation
Am telling myself at least it's not campylobacter which had me camped in the bathroom for nearly 10 days...

Lillipops · 10/02/2025 23:42

Eeek still going here too

Mumofgirls83 · 10/02/2025 23:55

Yep I thought i had calmed down but clearly not! Had a nice 40 mins break followed bumy at least 40 mins in the bathroom. Thirsty but don't want to drink in case it prolongs my time in the loo! I'm in as a PEt CT scan found an abnormality. Hopefully nothing but diverticulitis

flappingsoles · 10/02/2025 23:58

I feel like I need to go again but I’m so sore from the haemorrhoid I’m ignoring it! Which is a good sign as I couldn’t ignore it earlier. I will go again before bed though.

the thirst has eased for me so I think I’m good there.

ah bless you both. I’m in for ongoing abdominal pain and bloating, some loose stool. Sorry if I’m repeating myself, can’t remember who I’ve said what to at this stage!

@spikefaithbuffy yes I’ve had some Lucozade sport but after drinking a litre of sweet stuff, I didn’t want any more! I’ve brought the rest of the bottle to bed though to have before I have to fully fast in the morning.good luck!

flappingsoles · 11/02/2025 00:03

I’ve been keeping notes on the time I go and I’m literally at 24 & 57 past the hour 😂 will wait another half an hour I guess and see how we go…

😴

Mumofgirls83 · 11/02/2025 00:16

Ah I hope it all goes well for you in the morning. I'm giving myself yet another 30 mins but I'm not holding out much hope. There surely can't be much left inside of me!

flappingsoles · 11/02/2025 00:19

Haha me too!

I am gritting my teeth when it comes to gently patting myself with a wet wipe though. So so sore.
