Plenvu help colonoscopy

I am having a colonoscopy next week and have been prescribed plenvu. I am so nervous about it!

I am having a morning procedure, they’ve said to take the first sachet at 6pm and the 2nd at 9pm.

my worries are:

how the heck am I going to drink a litre of fluid in one hour (500ml over half an hour of plenvu then 500ml of water after)

the nurse said if you can have more then please do - aim for 2 litres! I’ll be sloshing!

I then obviously have to do it all again a couple of hours later. I’m so worried about being nauseous and puking it all back up.

when does the pooping stop? If I don’t even finish all the liquid until 10pm, how long can I expect to be up until?

Will I still need to carry on drinking throughout the night? And if I do, will I be up needing the loo or will that have stopped and I’ll just be peeing?

can I expect to still need to pee during this process?!

is it safe to have something like Lucozade sport given the plenvu is electrolytes?

sorry I am so anxious about this part! Once that’s over I guess I get to be anxious about the procedure - yay lucky me!

Hmmm. Well the taste of the second one isn’t that awful either. How are you finding it? Other than sweet!

@flappingsoles I felt very nauseous but it seemed to have worked its way through 😵‍💫 2nd dose at 9pm I think I'll be fine once I get that out of the way. I had a stomach upset not long ago and it was way worse than this. It's just the drinking ......now if it was vodka & Diet Coke I could knock it back no bother 🤣

flappingsoles · 10/02/2025 20:35

Oh sorry you said 6&8pm before! Must’ve been a typo :) I was 6&9 too but brought it forward to 5&8 because I’m not a night owl.

second batch is much like the first, getting difficult to drink as feeling nauseous, gurgling tummy. 35 minutes in and not finished it yet!

haha yes I said that too. Easy to glug alcoholic bevvies no worries but this stuff and some water and we’re all squirming 😂

Urgh the second batch is grim 😳 really struggling to finish it, I started it half an hour ago and I feel so nauseous 🤢 how are you doing?

Fernticket · 10/02/2025 21:19

Just popping in to wish you 2 ladies all the best. Had this last year. I had Plenvu too. I thought the second dose ( fruit punch ) was the worst. The prep is the worst bit . The colonoscopy was fine.

Lillipops · 10/02/2025 21:25

@Fernticket thankyou I'm hoping that is the case. The second dose is awful, I think it's the smell of it. I'm almost there with it think I've got 150ml yet. It's a challenge for sure

Mumofgirls83 · 10/02/2025 21:34

I am also on Plenvu this evening, sitting on the loo writing this 😂 took my second dose at 8pm. My first dose started working about an hour after taking it. Colonoscopy at 7.30am but I'm only having gas and air!

Lillipops · 10/02/2025 21:48

@Mumofgirls83 welcome to the club. I'm also on the throne. I hope there's no poo trolls about they will be loving this!

flappingsoles · 10/02/2025 21:49

I’m feeling hideous. Stools have been clear for ages, wish I hadn’t bothered with the second prep and it’s made me feel so unwell.

i can’t stop shaking / shivering and I’m really thirsty.

got piles now which are bleeding.

Fernticket · 10/02/2025 21:52

@Lillipops I agree, the smell is awful. When I did my prep it was in the early hours of the morning (procedure was in the afternoon). I just camped out in the loo! In the end it was like I was weeing from my bum as it was just liquid coming out. As I said early, the prep is the worst bit. The first part of the colonoscopy was a bit uncomfortable but it didn't last long and it was fascinating watching what was happening on the camera. If they find anything like polyps they remove them instantly. If they offer you sedation, take it. It doesn't knock you out but it makes you very relaxed. Hope all goes well for you all.

flappingsoles · 10/02/2025 21:54

@Mumofgirls83 welcome!

I have managed to be in and off the loo but I have a little seat in the toilet so I’m not going far. Wrapped up in loads of blankets and still shivering intermittently.

want this stuff out of my system now, I’m so done.

Chewbecca · 10/02/2025 21:55

I was really cold too, had a woolly hat on. I drank several bottles of lucozade sport and some pints of squash to quench the taste and thirst.

flappingsoles · 10/02/2025 21:57

@Chewbecca ive got 3 layers on and a blanket! Thick socks and slippers. Can’t believe how horrible I feel, I was ok after the first prep but the second has been horrid.

I was worried about drinking too much liquid, along with the prep I’ve had about 2.5 - 3 litres of clear fluid I think which seems like a ridiculous amount. It feels all stuck in my tummy and not actually hydrating me.

Mumofgirls83 · 10/02/2025 22:01

@flappingsoles I'm also bloody freezing and keep wrapping up in blankets. I've taken some into the loo with me. I feel like my trips are becoming l3ss frequent. But boy did that Plenvu make me feel ill.

Lillipops · 10/02/2025 22:04

I feel your pain ladies, I'm camped out in the loo frozen, shivering, sweating urgh! Now just passing water but I keep thinking I'm ok I'll go lie down for 5 to heat up then nope straight back to the toilet. When will it stop? It was the nauseous feeling, I gagged on the last bit of prep....awful. I'm actually not to worried about the procedure but will take the sedation. Good luck ladies xxx

Mumofgirls83 · 10/02/2025 22:06

I'm driving myself so hoping gas and air will be fine 😕. I really hope this stops soon. Thought I was done but I'm back on the loo. Also got my period. Fun times.

MissyB1 · 10/02/2025 22:12

I see you've taken both now, just wanted to say in our Trust for a morning colonoscopy you take one plenvu sachet the evening before, and the other at 6 am on day of procedure - results in a cleaner bowel!

Anyway hope you sleep well and the colonoscopy all goes well.

flappingsoles · 10/02/2025 22:13

It’s slowing down, shivering has stopped but I don’t think it’s over yet. Insatiable thirst has reduced too but still thirsty.

im managing to sit on the sofa for a bit now for a change of scenery in between toilet trips. My stomach has stopped making the gurgling noises so I hope the vast majority of it is over.

im planning on the sedation just because I’m so fricken anxious about it all. But the thought of being out of it on sedation worries me too! I don’t get on with gas and air though (threw it across the room in labour) and I’m not sure I could do it with nothing at all.

Hope you’re both ok?! Xx

Bizarre isn’t it how different they all are! I think I’d have preferred a break in between, I don’t think taking it all a few hours apart is good for the body.

Mumofgirls83 · 10/02/2025 22:19

@flappingsoles gas and air is all i used for my second labour and I was fine so hoping that will work OK for this! I've had colonoscopies before but can't remember if I was sedated or not.

I'm the same the cramps have gone but I'm so cold. Started back to the loo though. Feel like the second dose has made its way through my system. I'm hoping to get some sleep tonight though. I've got work after my appointment!

flappingsoles · 10/02/2025 22:19

Nope, thirst is back. Jesus. I’ve never drank so much water in my life.

OP posts:
flappingsoles · 10/02/2025 22:23

Oh yes if you can give birth on gas and air you’ll be fine! I had an epidural.

I didn’t really get any cramping, but felt a bit weird and could hear the liquid literally being pulled into the bowel which was bizarre. That noise has stopped now.

my arse is raw. Got a fresh sore and bleeding haemorrhoid so dreading them going near that tomorrow. I’ve just put some Anusol on and hoping no more bowel movements but I know I will still need to go as still quite a large volume on the last trip.

another hour maybe? Hoping not that long! Pleased I started prepping early though, any hour sooner is an hour I get to have in bed later hopefully!

how are you guys getting on with the thirst and shivering etc?

OP posts:
squishee · 10/02/2025 22:23

You will literally be sloshing, which is OK.

Lillipops · 10/02/2025 22:25

Hope you're all ok ladies. I'm not sure if it's slowed down or just the 2nd dose kicking in. I'm just passing water now. Good luck for tomorrow everyone I'm going for the sedation so shouldn't be too bad I don't think. It was this bit I was worried about. Surely they could give you something in tablet form rather than the drinks they were dreadful 😳

Lillipops · 10/02/2025 22:26

And I'm still frozen can't heat up at all
