Decaf tea?

CalicoPusscat · 08/02/2025 09:19

I found out quite violently that I cannot take caffeine for now.

Luckily I like herbal tea and water but sometimes I do just want a cup of tea.

I had a browse around earlier and could only spot decaf Twinings earl grey and decaf Yorkshire tea.

Any recommendations?

I drink Tesco’s own decaf tea. It’s fine.

Turmerictolly · 08/02/2025 09:20

Decaf PG tips. Tastes no different to normal tea to me.

Gineveryday · 08/02/2025 09:21

I like M&S earl grey

I’ve tried them all and have finally settled on Co-op own brand fair trade. I was finding that so many of them - the ‘good’ brands like Clipper made a really weak, anaemic looking cup. Yorkshire decaf is good but then I discovered the Co-op ones on a corner shop dash one night when I realised we’d run out and they’re delicious but also really cheap £1.89 for 80.

Lots of decaf tea about, all the big brands do it plus supermarket own makes, plus the likes of ringtons.DW normally drinks decaf as she gets migraine with caffeine, personally can’t tell any difference

PaintDecisions · 08/02/2025 09:23

Yorkshire. It's the only one that doesn't come out like dishwater for me.

HollyGolightly4 · 08/02/2025 09:23

I love the decaf Yorkshire tea.

HermioneWeasley · 08/02/2025 09:24

Yorkshire decaf is good

CalicoPusscat · 08/02/2025 09:25

We're a very small town, we do have a co-op but couldn't spot any in there earlier.

It's heartening to hear there are some nice ones thank you!

I'd have red bush (tick tock brand) instead.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 08/02/2025 09:25

I drink tetley's. Tastes the same as normal tea.

Confusedmermaid1 · 08/02/2025 09:25

I don’t mind decaf but DH was certain he wouldn’t like it. He can’t tell the difference between normal and decaf tetley 😅

LightedCandle · 08/02/2025 09:26

I moved onto decaf Yorkshire tea and couldn’t really tell the difference. Also for me twinnings decaf earl grey is good too. I’ve now fully adjusted and not keen on fully caffeinated tea as I get an instant headache so you do get use to it. I did get headaches for a week to 10 days as I came off the caffeinated but that’s normal and I was a very heavy tea drinker.

You mean rooibos - not nitpicking, just so OP knows what to look for. It existed long before TikTok.

I love the decaf Yorkshire tea.

Were you trying to cut out caffeine?

Goofy03 · 08/02/2025 09:26

Another vote for Yorkshire

TheFormidableMrsC · 08/02/2025 09:26

I really like Aldi decaf tea. It does need a longer brew though. I have it in the evening.

Nannyfannybanny · 08/02/2025 09:27

DH cannot have caffeine
I forgot which brand he used to have, has settled on Lidl own....much cheaper, and actually tastes like tea, I like strong tea, and sometimes can't have caffeine (acid reflux) I will have that and perfectly happy with it. Frankly, this time of year, when we're walking the dogs in cold and wet,a glass of water doesn't cut it.We do do our main shop in there. He had tried other well known brands,I can't think of them ATM,it's been years since he tried them.

YourWinter · 08/02/2025 09:28

My son lives abroad and decaf Yorkshire teabags are top of the list of items he asks for from here. They’re good!

DilemmaDelilah · 08/02/2025 09:31

The only one I like is Sainsburys decaffeinated Earl Grey. I am fussy though. My usual grocery deliveries don't come from Sainsbury's, so I stock up when I pass a Sainsburys.

gettinghealthy · 08/02/2025 09:34

Clipper decaf for me.

It's decaffeinated with water rather than chemicals and the bags themselves don't contain plastic (which a lot of the others do!)

CalicoPusscat · 08/02/2025 09:36

Ok I think I'm going to try Yorkshire as it's on special offer at present

Pigeonqueen · 08/02/2025 09:36

The Yorkshire one is the only one I don’t mind. I can’t have caffeine as it exacerbates my palpitations. You can tell the difference though.

Yes that did cross my mind - I'll check at the health food store.

Clipper decaf is nice. Just find have to brew it longer than normal tea.
