Decaf tea?

CalicoPusscat · 08/02/2025 09:19

I found out quite violently that I cannot take caffeine for now.

Luckily I like herbal tea and water but sometimes I do just want a cup of tea.

I had a browse around earlier and could only spot decaf Twinings earl grey and decaf Yorkshire tea.

Any recommendations?

You mean rooibos - not nitpicking, just so OP knows what to look for. It existed long before TikTok.

Haha it is the name of the brand

Yorkshire decaf here. Or Sainsbury's own brand one is nice too.

cliffdiver · 08/02/2025 09:57

Yorkshire decaf, usually 2 teabags at a time though.

I’m a huge tea fan and the only decaf tea I can enjoy is Twinings. It’s actually difficult to tell the difference.

pelagra · 08/02/2025 10:00

Don't buy LIdl decaf - the worst cup of tea I've had. It takes a lot for me to throw food away, but after persisting through half the box I had to chuck the rest.

Tetley is the way to go.

whosaidtha · 08/02/2025 10:11

Yorkshire tea is the only tea worth drinking.
I have the decaf in the evenings just don't leave it sat too long.

Its called either red bush or rooibos. Rooibos is Afrikaans for red bush, isn't it?

I know the difference between tick tock and tiktok, thanks

CointreauVersial · 08/02/2025 10:14

I find regular decaf tea a bit tasteless, so I either drink Earl Grey or (most often) Redbush.

CointreauVersial · 08/02/2025 10:15

And yes, I know its proper name is rooibos....

Bimblesalong · 08/02/2025 10:16

Another vote for Yorkshire decaf. Only one that doesn’t come out pale.

EmberAsh · 08/02/2025 10:18

I think you'll have to try yourself and decide which decaf you like. I prefer PG tips or Yorkshire but can't stand Co-op or Clipper.

VenusClapTrap · 08/02/2025 10:21

I’m not supposed to have caffeine. I haven’t found any satisfactory decaf ones though, so following with interest. All the ones mentioned have been too weak for me (even when brewed for a long time). I’ve moved sideways to Turmeric tea instead.

That said, I’m sitting here with a cup of proper tea right now. Needed it this morning.

ginislife · 08/02/2025 10:25

M&S, Co-op Fairtrade & PG Tips are the best.

Decaf Yorkshire is all I drink and decaf ille coffee

NotMeNoNo · 08/02/2025 10:26

Decaf Yorkshire tea here. I've not had caffeinated tea for 2 years now so I don't notice any difference, it's like "placebo tea" as it's still strong and has a good taste.

Onthetipofmytonguetoo · 08/02/2025 09:22

I’ve tried them all and have finally settled on Co-op own brand fair trade. I was finding that so many of them - the ‘good’ brands like Clipper made a really weak, anaemic looking cup. Yorkshire decaf is good but then I discovered the Co-op ones on a corner shop dash one night when I realised we’d run out and they’re delicious but also really cheap £1.89 for 80.

I second coop own decaf tea

BestIsWest · 08/02/2025 10:29

Decaf Yorkshire as others have said and I’ll put in a vote for Twinings Earl Grey Decaf It’s ok.

SoapySponge · 08/02/2025 10:31

I don't drink it myself, but a mate who does reckons the cheaper the decaff tea, the better cuppa it makes. Don't buy up-market teas, basically.

Elderflower14 · 08/02/2025 10:34

I'll go along with others, Co op and Yorkshire... Decaf Twinings Earl Grey too!
Clipper is pale and insipid.

ChopstickNovice · 08/02/2025 10:40

Seconding M&S decaf earl grey. I buy 2 boxes at a time!

AuntieDolly · 08/02/2025 11:02

Another vote for co-op own brand - good price too

Raindancer411 · 08/02/2025 11:05

I have had decaf since 2012 and have always had Yorkshire and Tetley. Never like own brands and only difference I found at first was it didn't have the tannin taste.

Nannyfannybanny · 08/02/2025 11:08

Both DH and I tried Tetley decaf and hated it.. trouble is,tea is a very individual taste thing..I have a relative who has fruit tea and I think it's disgusting.

Galliano · 08/02/2025 11:17

A lot comes down to habit I guess but having experimented over 23 years so far of only drinking decaf tea Waitrose essentials is my favourite and also happens to be very cheap

wingsspan · 08/02/2025 11:19

The decaf Twinings English Breakfast is lovely. You just have to leave it a minute or two longer to brew and honestly can't tell the difference.
