Do you ever WFH in bed?

I have an office job. All I need is my laptop. Yes a big screen helps, but my job is mostly excel and then some word and PowerPoint.

Someday (especially when I have anxiety) I like working in bed and feeling all cosy.

Does anyone else do this?

Not usually as I prefer 2 screens. But I recently stayed in an hotel and worked from bed all morning in my pyjamas. I rather enjoyed it. No scheduled meetings thankfully.
PS I too am reasonably senior and graded 'exceeding' in my annual appraisal. If we're playing that game Wink

HangingOver · 07/02/2025 21:49

Surely it TOTALLY depends on your job. If I'm doing some long winded Photoshop for hours on end and it's a freezing winters day you bet I'm cracking out the tray table out and putting the radio on.

SabreIsMyFave · 07/02/2025 21:50

Not me. I find it far too uncomfortable. I need to be at my little desk, on my laptop. Smile

miniaturepixieonacid · 07/02/2025 21:50

Absolutely. Doing it right now in fact! (well, in between mumsnet 'breaks'😂

I can't do it during the day in the week because my job requires face to face the whole time but in the evenings and at weekends/in holidays then my bed is my office of choice, always!

It's probably a terribly bad habit!

No. Never. I typically have Teams calls at 8.30am through the morning. I also like to get up, clean and ready for the day because I need to earn my salary. If I didn't, I'd be let go. Both my eldest and my niece have admitted to doing so - very occasionally - while they're just not feeling it for whatever reason. They're both juniors starting out. They can answer an email or respond to a live chat from wherever they want to. They each prefer being in the office though. I guess it depends on your job. Unless you're really very junior - or very senior - and devoid of any ambition or personal pride I'm not sure it's either workable or preferable.

Bit harsh! I accept it’s not for everyone and obviously if you’re in regular teams meetings it doesn’t work, but in some jobs I’m sure it would be perfectly possible to work in bed from time to time without it affecting your output. It’s nice to be up, clean and ready, but I don’t see how these things alter your ability to operate a computer.

FYI I don’t work from home, but I don’t look down my nose at those that do either.

Apfelkuchen · 07/02/2025 21:54

Never. Work is fully dressed and at my desk (WFH full time), I need to be fully present and presentable for Teams calls.

Blairwitch82 · 07/02/2025 21:56

Yes it’s the most comfortable place!

Doggymummar · 07/02/2025 21:56

God no! Bedrooms are for sleeping I would be out like a light 🕯️

Tchagra · 07/02/2025 21:57

Only when I had covid

Bestfootforward11 · 07/02/2025 21:57

I do know what you mean re the anxiety. I can generally manage anxious feelings much better than I used to but sometimes it unexpectedly ramps up and I find it hard to get going and feel a bit paralysed. I find working on the laptop in bed is a good way of me breaking this freeze feeling

Echobelly · 07/02/2025 21:58

No, I need to be alert to work and bed is just all wrong for that. But fair play to others if it works for them.

Rockingroll · 07/02/2025 21:59

Absolutely agree. Have never and will never work from hold either from bed or without being properly dressed and in professional work mode

Hoochyvida · 07/02/2025 22:03

I did when I was pregnant, during the pandemic. Only for a few hours as I do like getting up, washed and dressed even if I couldn't go anywhere!

If I worked from home everyday, I absolutely wouldn't. I would need to be up separating home from work. I wouldn't want my bed to be associated with work and I don't like being in bed when it's not bedtime.

Then again, I don't ever want to work from home. I like to come home, not stay there all day.

Feats52 · 07/02/2025 22:04

I agree it totally depends on your job.

I occasionally do, and I particularly resort to my bed when I have tasks that are trickier/ require me to focus, and for content writing. It blocks out the distractions and feels like a treat to get through the next tricky bit of work. I take a cup of tea and give myself xx minutes of focus time to get it done.

It really works for me! If I was a sales person on the phone to customers and needing to be energetic, I wouldn't.

Rockingrobin25 · 07/02/2025 22:04

Only when I'm ill! It's not good for my back/shoulders and doing it regularly would cause me problems.

SoftPillow · 07/02/2025 22:04

No, I’ve never done this. The closest is checking emails on my phone when I’m unwell in bed.

I couldn’t be very productive from bed but more importantly people video call me unexpectedly and I have to call people. Half my day is Teams meetings. That obviously doesn’t work from bed 😀

cheezmonster · 07/02/2025 22:07

I have very occasionally worked an hour or so in bed in the morning, but only to do a few emails. It's usually been because of feeling rough/ having a bit of a cold etc. and only when I have no meetings.

@Spocyfriedchi If you are working in bed because you are feeling so anxious that you can't get up, you'd probably be better taking some time off to focus on finding ways to address that level of anxiety. It sounds quite severe.

ElleintheWoods · 07/02/2025 22:08

Yup! On a cold winter morning… Ah! Nothing better.

DanishPastry45 · 07/02/2025 22:10

In the winter? All. The. Time. I write for a living and so it's rare I need to actually speak with anyone during the time I choose to work. Any meetings I hold are done from my dining table, however I find when I'm under my cozy duvet, with electric blanket on and phone off, I simply plough on through what needs to be done. If I'm trying to write in a less cozy atmosphere, I find myself making excuses to get up and find something more interesting to do.

Findmethesmallestviolin · 07/02/2025 22:13

No - my job is stressful so I really wouldn’t want that vibe in my bed

Moonshine5 · 07/02/2025 22:13

Never. I'm always changed and ready. I consider that unprofessional in my line of work but if your work place don't mind I don't see the problem.

avignon1234 · 07/02/2025 22:16

It does massively depend on your job, your skills, and your attitude to your own work-life balance. No meetings, just admin, then if you get as much done from comfy bed instead of a more established place, which I think many prefer from all sorts of reasons, then fine. If in front of others, then I am going to go for an "absolutely not", most I work with have travelled to get there, and working from home is an absolute blessing, and I have been lucky to have that a couple of days a week. On a similar vein, even if working from home, I find that if I get up, and do the basics, so up early for the working day, washed and dressed, sat at my PC in "work mode", it is so much better. Also depends whether you see work as a "career" or a "job". I recently had a meeting with "new" someone who was working from home, and was in PJs and pulled a dressing gown on. She might be absolutely brilliant at what she does and time will tell, but it made me think bad of her, and now she absolutely has something to prove. Hope this helps.

Porkychops · 07/02/2025 21:48

Never! Like my desk and chair and it would kill my wrists. The only thing I do that is a bit naughty is when we have this awful half day meeting I snuggle up on the settee

Oh how nice for you.

SweetBabyCheesus · 07/02/2025 22:21

Pleaseletmegohome · 07/02/2025 21:06

No. I need the separation of work and home so always work in my spare room. Have to get properly dressed and put my face on too.

Completely agree with this. I wfh full time, and I only ever work in my office.

When I first started wfh during lockdown, I had to work sitting on my bed, and it made me hate my bedroom. Never again!

wandawaves · 07/02/2025 22:22

Gosh no, I'd fall straight to sleep!
