Do you ever WFH in bed?

I have an office job. All I need is my laptop. Yes a big screen helps, but my job is mostly excel and then some word and PowerPoint.

Someday (especially when I have anxiety) I like working in bed and feeling all cosy.

Does anyone else do this?

I couldn’t do it.

Ponderingwindow · 07/02/2025 21:13

I did when I was only working a few hours a week and dd would only take contact naps. It was the most effective way for me to get focused work time, get sleeping curled up against me.

Working regularly, I need my desk in my home office with my large monitor. Sometimes when I travel on work I even throw an old monitor in a suitcase so I can set up a workstation at the hotel, because my laptop screen is not sufficient for most of my tasks.

No. Never. I typically have Teams calls at 8.30am through the morning. I also like to get up, clean and ready for the day because I need to earn my salary. If I didn't, I'd be let go. Both my eldest and my niece have admitted to doing so - very occasionally - while they're just not feeling it for whatever reason. They're both juniors starting out. They can answer an email or respond to a live chat from wherever they want to. They each prefer being in the office though. I guess it depends on your job. Unless you're really very junior - or very senior - and devoid of any ambition or personal pride I'm not sure it's either workable or preferable.

No, but my leather recliner chair has been used for work.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 07/02/2025 21:22

Never and I always get dressed too.

Grapefruitspoon · 07/02/2025 21:25

God, no. I can’t Imagine what would happen to my neck.

WilderHorses · 07/02/2025 21:29

Never. I need 3 screens and can get Teams calls out of the blue. Looking dishevelled wouldn't be good and we are expected to have cameras on. Plus it just feels unprofessional.

Growlybear83 · 07/02/2025 21:30

I had no choice when I slipped my disc three years ago and attended loads of zoom meetings lying down and in agony 😆

DonaldJohnTrump · 07/02/2025 21:30

Yep, all the time. Cept when I'm signing them Executive Orders in the Oval Office. Then I put on a shirt and RED tie and a jacket.
(But still got the ol' PJ pants on !)

AtticusCatticus · 07/02/2025 21:32

Often. I’ve worked from home for 15 years now, and work in any way I choose. I rarely put on the camera. I’m quite professional. And reasonably senior.

YouveGotAFastCar · 07/02/2025 21:32

No. I did for a while years and years ago but I think it's actually pretty bad for your mental health - or at least, it was for mine. Your bed shouldn't be associated with work.

I get up and get dressed, even when I'm WFH. I get up, showered and dressed every single day. That works for me.

Msmoonpie · 07/02/2025 21:34

I have done.

I certainly did when I had Covid. Asleep with the laptop on one side incase anything occurred that needed my urgent attention.

They knew I was ill - I was technically still at work as since they don’t have cover for me but I had out of office on telling everyone external I was unavailable and internally that I was only available for emergencies.

Branster · 07/02/2025 21:35

Occasionally on the sofa. I have a big super comfortable sofa in my office and if I don't need the screens and it's catching up on admin time, then I'd half sit on the sofa with the back resting and legs stretching out. Lovely! I couldn't use a laptop lying down. Also I'd feel like I'm not working if I was to lie down. I'd take calls too unless it was a group video call.

spikefaithbuffy · 07/02/2025 21:36

No, I need either my large curved screen or two screens

Switcher · 07/02/2025 21:36

No and it annoys me that any healthy adult does.

Chillilounger · 07/02/2025 21:37

No. I need two screens and a proper ergonomic chair.

borntoblossom · 07/02/2025 21:38

Yes and sometimes in the bath 🤣

ladygindiva · 07/02/2025 21:40

I often do but I'm self employed, and answer to myself only.

PlantDoctor · 07/02/2025 21:42

No, I'd fall asleep 😅 assuming you use a laptop tray or something, but be careful putting your laptop onto fabrics too, as they can overheat and also suck in fibres that eventually stop it working.

HangingOver · 07/02/2025 21:43

Unless you're really very junior - or very senior - and devoid of any ambition or personal pride I'm not sure it's either workable or preferable

LOL

Stealer · 07/02/2025 21:46

I'd rather not call you for a query while you are in bed. I make the effort to go in to work, so should you.

AndOnAndOn1000 · 07/02/2025 21:47

I might give it a go😀

I remember a brilliant thread on here from someone who used to take her laptop to her healthclub and work from there most days.

She used to go for a swim and sauna during her lunchbreaks.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 07/02/2025 21:48

I don’t really do it much anymore but I did it through my whole pregnancy when I was feeling rotten!

I have an admin heavy job though and not much people facing or meetings involved

I love it!

category12 · 07/02/2025 21:48

No, I need 2 screens,

Porkychops · 07/02/2025 21:48

Never! Like my desk and chair and it would kill my wrists. The only thing I do that is a bit naughty is when we have this awful half day meeting I snuggle up on the settee
