Do you ever WFH in bed?

I have an office job. All I need is my laptop. Yes a big screen helps, but my job is mostly excel and then some word and PowerPoint.

Someday (especially when I have anxiety) I like working in bed and feeling all cosy.

Does anyone else do this?

No, I just couldn’t. I wfh but we have a study (lucky I know) when my dodgy back is playing up I sometimes work at the kitchen island so I can stand up. DH can work anywhere but I need a quiet, dedicated space.

Again though as I have said on previous wfh threads, how someone works is no one else’s business outside of their direct line management chain. If you are jealous that some people can work in bed and think that it’s not fair on you then why don’t you go and get a similar job and stop fucking moaning. It’s not people who wfh’s fault that you have a shit job.

I sometimes use a background just sitting on a chair at my desk.

I use a background all the time now.

Yes, I have a day bed in my study. With lots of pillows and a lap tray thing so I can work from there.
I have a health condition that means sometimes I have to as I can struggle to sit upright in a chair.

I still work just as hard.

Same, it really helps sometimes just to be able to lie down for a while and not get stuck in my chair

@Cheeseandcrackers40 I'm not sure if this was directed at me, but I'm self employed and if I don't work, I don't get paid. When I slipped my disc I couldn't get out of bed for three weeks and had no option but to attend meetings from my bed. At the time, I had no idea how long I was going to be incapacitated for and it ended up taking over two years before I had surgery. Once I could get out of bed I was still very immobile and in excruciating pain and so had to rely on my husband to drive me to meetings, complete with various cushions to prop myself up with 😆

There’s some hilariously self-righteous cat’s-bum-mouth posts on here. And at least one poster who claims the impressive ability to say with some certainty that another poster, an anonymous person on the internet, is less productive working from bed than if they were in an office.

There are a number of posters on here whose psychic powers kick in on wfh threads.

Actually yes it does offend me. I don't get paid to snuggle up in bed. And yes I do think you are less productive.

How bizarrely puritanical. Earlier in my career I spent a fair amount of time lying on the floor fishing cables into server racks. As I was horizontal while doing so do you think I was being less productive?

Out of interest, what do you do for a living?

Something I can't do whilst bragging I can do it whilst wearing my PJs and lounging about in bed.

Playingintheshadow · 07/02/2025 23:28

I once joined an extremely uninteresting event online for my department. There were 200+ people so no cameras, and I decided to listen in from bed. I have a really nasty team manager, who is very old school, horrible and uncaring towards all of her team.

Well I fell asleep and woke just as they were winding up! It was a load of shit and I missed nothing, but the thought of getting one over on my manager really cheered me up! She would probably have spontaneously combusted!

Ah, so your problem is that people are getting to do something that you can't. I can't say that envy's a good look but you do you. Have you considered changing career?

Spocyfriedchi · 07/02/2025 23:30

I go to the office quite often. I just do this when I'm feeling really down and just want to feel secure

Time for a new job then so you can stop being so jealous?

Have you considered not being so patronising?

ItGhoul · 07/02/2025 23:34

Most days I have Teams meetings where I have to be on camera, but I’ve worked from my bed on days when I don’t! Probably not the whole day, but definitely until lunchtime.

Stealer · 07/02/2025 23:37

All I know is the people who WFH I have to deal with are a bit shit at their jobs and are often not available when I need them. Probably having a nap or putting a wash on.

Stealer · 07/02/2025 23:32

Have you considered not being so patronising?

Have you considered not being so judgemental and, instead, realising that different people live different lives and so can make different decisions than your narrow experience would allow for?

Never in a million years will I consider that people who WFH in their beds is not taking the piss.

mummytalking · 07/02/2025 23:41

No. I need a monitor as well as my laptop so am stuck on the dining table. I would love to work just from my laptop on the sofa even but really need two screens. The benefit is when i shut down my laptop that's it I'm done as I really do treat it as an office space.

spikefaithbuffy · 07/02/2025 23:44

I admit I am sometimes wearing pj bottoms or a dressing gown over my clothes if it's cold
But nobody sees me, no team meetings and pj bottoms are often the only thing I can fit over my stomach if I'm swollen

Never in a million years will I consider that someone who is unable/unwilling to put themselves in someone else's shoes is anything other than narrow-minded.

Well, it's 11:45pm on a Friday night and I'm still working (and very definitely in bed). I worked 8:15am - 9:30pm on site and 10pm onwards in bed. Tomorrow I'll work 8:45am-12:45pm on site and then probably a few hours work in bed in the evening. Is that taking the piss? It's possible to be a hard working, productive person and still work in bed!

How is being in a physical job where you had to be horizontal on the floor comparable with working from bed? You are seriously missing the point if you think this is about being 'horizontal'.

paulyispoorly · 07/02/2025 23:49

I really can't see why so many employers are wanting staff back in the office can you? I mean ffs

Franjipanl8r · 07/02/2025 23:49

I have restless legs and working in bed with my legs up helps me really focus. I find working sat at a chair full time very difficult and I’m not nearly as productive.

Well I am fucking amazing at my job, and I am contactable all day long.

I've even been known to have meetings with managers at 8pm as we were both online at the same time.

I'm totally flexible.
