Emma mattress - any good?

Mummabear04 · 29/01/2025 20:15

I need to replace my mattress and wondering if Emma is the way forward. My husband is a big man and I need one that will support him and not sag over time. I'd like a medium firm and my friends really like their Emma mattress but when I helped them move it felt very flimsy so I'm not sure. Any other suggestions would be welcome!

Ds has one and it's really comfortable.

eosmum · 29/01/2025 20:20

Absolutely not. DS has one and it’s sunk in the middle, only has it two years.

We had one, lasted 6 weeks before we sent it back..most uncomfortable mattress we've ever slept on.

VelvetUndergrounds · 29/01/2025 20:26

Best thing we've ever bought and their customer service is excellent. Reduced my back pain overnight!

TheseCalmSeas · 29/01/2025 20:27

I’ve had the original for 5 years and LOVE it. Husband is double my weight but it balances us out without sinking.

isitme111 · 29/01/2025 20:41

I love mine it's so comfortable

Poppymeldrum · 29/01/2025 20:59

I ended up in hospital because of ours
Best mattress ever for the first 18 months and then it started to dip in the parts where dp and I lay
I was always getting a bad back (since we bought the emma) but put it down to menopause/being unfit/my job until the morning I couldn't get out of bed-I couldn't stand up as my back had locked-I've never been in so much pain
Long story short,I ended up in a&e and was on some heavy duty painkillers for ages
As soon as I said we had an emma, the doctor rolled his eyes and said we should think about changing it
(We did and I've been fine since)
I got in touch with Emma and they couldn't have cared less-told me to take photos of the dips (which I did) and was told there is nothing wrong with it and unrelated to my having to go to a&e
Point blank refused a refund/replacement
Awful company and I'll never touch them again
I did mention this in a bed shop, while chatting to the sales man (mil was buying a new bed) a few months later, and he said it happens all the time with those sort of mattresses

menopausalfart · 29/01/2025 21:05

Mine made my back worse. It was the most uncomfortable mattress i've ever had. You're better off getting a sprung mattress. Much more support and way more comfortable.

Daisychainsandglitter · 29/01/2025 21:10

Ours dipped in the middle and I found the smell when unboxing really off putting. I have a Tempur one now and I love it although pricy.

SleepyHedgehog · 29/01/2025 21:19

I have one and love it, but it is very soft so you will likely not love it. Also is starting to sag around my hip area after 5 years.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 29/01/2025 21:21

DH did a lot of research and decided against Emma as he read they had dips. We got a Dream Cloud luxury hybrid maftress 3 years ago. It arrived in a box rolled up and I was sceptical.

It's amazing, no dips at all (and we are both overweight) and the perfect goldilocks hardness. Brilliant night's sleep.

HousedInMySoul · 29/01/2025 21:23

I find mine very hard and had to get a mattress topper

Topseyt123 · 29/01/2025 21:23

We've had an Emma for about three years now and it's been lovely. No problems at all.

AgricolaOrBed · 29/01/2025 21:23

They’re horrible. Stink of chemicals for ages, and incredibly hot. Made my back problems worse - never had a good nights sleep on ours.

sakura06 · 29/01/2025 21:33

I really love ours. We've had it around 5 years. My DD says it's like sleeping 'on a cloud'.

beholdmylastfuckflyingaway · 29/01/2025 21:34

Worst mattress ever.

Collapsed on both sides, destroyed my back and it is impossible to invoke the sham warranty.

Get yourself a a Visprung.

DCINightingale · 29/01/2025 21:36

Had ours less than 2 years and got rid. I couldn't sleep on it without it putting my back out. The mattress developed a huge pit which you'd roll into. Honestly the worst mattress I've ever slept on. I'd really recommend you consider a different option

Madamswearsalot · 29/01/2025 21:37

I had a terrible experience with Emma - 3 x failure to deliver the bed (had ordered a frame too) and absolutely shocking customer service. We went for an Eve mattress via Bensons instead and have been very happy with it.

starsinthegutter · 29/01/2025 21:38

I don't rate the foam ones, especially if you're a bit bigger/heavier. Check out button & sprung, their mattresses are lovely.

Hoover2025 · 29/01/2025 21:43

I also had an awful experience. Turned up stained. So badly you can see it through a white sheet.

Tried to get a return.

They kept kicking it down. Partner wrote a review online finally to say awful. Avoid.

Then they essentially held us hostage saying they wouldnt do the return but would give a topper to hide the stain; but only if we removed the review.

We looked at the topper online and thought yes that looks like a compromise so let’s try that.

They sent a random of loose cheap foam. Not the proper Emma topper.

My partner just lost his shit tbh. This had been about 4 months of back and forth now. So he just left it. But i recant this story everywhere on MN I can.

Absolutely shoddy company. Worst customer service ever had. Practically scamming people with their 5* review claims when actually we have evidence they bribe people to take them down.

Hoover2025 · 29/01/2025 21:44

And yes the mattress is not great. It’s not awful. But it’s shit for the price.

OhMehGoddess · 29/01/2025 21:45

We went with the luxury dream cloud one. It is bloody amazing.

AtticusCatticus · 29/01/2025 21:55

Ours was wonderful for a while, then developed dips where we slept. Customer services were beyond terrible. Really, really awful. We eventually got a replacement that barely lasted a week before it started sagging. They have me terrible back problems. We now have a proper sprung mattress.

HoppityBun · 29/01/2025 21:59

How can these experiences be so different! I think I’ll avoid them
