Do you like a poke bowl?

The rainbow salmon one from Tesco is lovely, really fresh and tasty! It’s salmon, rice, edamame beans, red cabbage, yellow pepper, crispy onions and soy sauce.

I saw a few people buying them yesterday for their meal deal and wondered how popular they were. Also I’ve never made my own.

Have you tried any from other stores and do you make your own version?

Yes!

Very popular in central London with Poke Bowl places popping ip all over the place. Really easy to make at home.

Heelworkhero · 25/01/2025 09:10

I make my own for lunch. Lovely!

StormyWeather01 · 25/01/2025 09:11

Oh right, what do you put in it and what rice do you use?

I do but it must contain avocado and have enough dressing. I like a tuna one personally!

I LOVE Honi Poke ❤️

Yes, OP, love a poke bowl. Not tried the Tesco one but will look out for it.

I make my own - Tesco frozen rice is the best as it's quick in the microwave . We have, salmon fillets done on the air fryer or chicken, salad, edamame beans,an egg and sprinkles with roasted sesame seeds and a drizzle of hoisin sauce or soy sauce.

Edited- avocado too!

The Sainsbury's one has raw salmon. Do you eat it raw?

HappyHolidai · 25/01/2025 09:14

The Taiko salmon one at Waitrose is one of my top prepared meals. Love it.

Sainsbury's sushi counter has one that is nice too.

I don't fancy the look of the Yo Sushi ones in the Co-op.

A central London poke place is a very rare treat these days but there used to be a lovely place underneath Canary Wharf station. Was slightly disappointed by one I got on Ludgate Hill.

Yes, usually. My fave one has raw salmon, mango and sriracha mayo.

I want one so badly now 🤤

Booths do a lovely chicken one and a falafel bowl one.

I can do them at home but can never replicate the sweetness of the cabbage or sauce

Dearg · 25/01/2025 09:20

Our local M&S has a sushi bar which does poke bowls - fab.

M&S do a couple of nice ones of their own their lunch chiller; and one of our local cafes does a very decent poke bowls- salmon or chicken .

They feel so healthy

ChestnutGrove · 25/01/2025 09:21

Yes. The Tesco salmon one is the only one I've had but it's lovely. Our Tesco has a Yo Sushi counter too.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 25/01/2025 09:26

Sounds like my usual breakfast/lunch at work - DP makes it and it usually has salmon, tuna, prawns or smoked mackerel, always sushi rice and then a selection from cherry tomatoes, cucumber, spring onion, nori, seaweed, avocado and anything else we have like frozen edamame, sweetcorn, sesame seeds, mango, chilli, that kind of thing.

Yes!

Yet another thing on MN that I had to Google before I knew what it was.

Anonym00se · 25/01/2025 13:19

I make my own with sushi rice from Tesco plus any of the following: Cucumber, cherry tomato, spring onion, radish, sweetcorn, edamame beans, broccoli, grated carrot, mango, salmon (or smoked salmon), tuna, prawns and a hard boiled egg. And then a nice dressing on top.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/01/2025 13:26

I like the rainbow salmon one too @StormyWeather01 . I try and kept my intake to one a month or it can get pricey. My lunch is normally last night's leftovers.

Redflagsabounded · 25/01/2025 13:36

I occasionally work in Birmingham and always get one from a pile bowl place as they are amazing. So many different options and ingredients. All the supermarket ones look at bit rubbish in comparison.

Can someone tell me how to pronounce poke? Is it poke or more like pokay?

StormyWeather01 · 25/01/2025 14:53

I just googled and it’s poh-kay bowl to rhyme with o-kay.

The yo sushi one from coop is awful but the one from sainsburys is lovely. Definitely need to start making my own though
