Just that really, trying to figure out if it's a platform worth listing items for sale on or if people just either google what they are looking for or go straight to Amazon ?

Yes, I sometimes buy from ebay. Mainly 2nd hand things, but sometimes new items are cheaper there than on Amazon.

I've looked at vinted, but couldn't find what I was after and also wasn't clear how the buying/selling worked. Likely just me not reading all the info though.

Needmorelego · 22/01/2025 10:41

I do.
I buy Lego/similar brands, comics and books.
I prefer the "buy it now" option rather than having to bid.

EmeraldRoulette · 22/01/2025 10:42

Yes
but recently it's only been books

I have done well getting BNWT One Hundred Stars but I suspect clothes are selling better on Vinted. I don't know though.

I use it all the time. Mainly for old CDs from the 80's, but also household stuff. Display cabinets for Lego models and my sons car collection. There is quite a variety of stuff on there

Rhaidimiddim · 22/01/2025 10:43

Yes.
I bought a brand- new hairdryer on there a week.ago, and buy and sell bits and pieces.

Whoknew24 · 22/01/2025 10:44

Yes I buy and sell 😊

TheoTurkey · 22/01/2025 10:44

I buy dvds on ebay

Dror · 22/01/2025 10:45

Only to buy stuff immediately, not the bidding nonsense.

DancingMirren · 22/01/2025 10:50

I buy various things, I like it, I only started buying during COVID. I couldn’t fathom Vinted and didn’t like how it looked but admittedly I didn’t make much effort, and stuck with eBay. I have a load of things to sell so will try that soon too.

Bananalanacake · 22/01/2025 11:03

Yes, often, I collect Lego figures, also figures that aren't the standard mini figures. I also buy bundles of kids clothes and toys.

BackinBlack24 · 22/01/2025 11:24

Thanks all might give it a go, looking to do print on demand so worth a try.

OP- I'm not sure if you are aware that ebay has their own forum? Very handy if you have a specific question about buying/selling, issues with a buyer/seller, queries etc. I had an issue with a buyer claiming the item was damaged, and it was really helpful to read from others who had been through similar or knew the correct process to follow.

RedRiverShore5 · 22/01/2025 11:29

I never bid so only buy it now, I filter the buy it now ones and usually just buy from businesses rather than private sellers.

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/01/2025 11:31

Always start looking for Christmas gifts on E-Bay around October. Have found some lovely things.

OldTinHat · 22/01/2025 11:33

Me.

I can't justify the cost of Prime, so order stuff from eBay. I'm currently expecting a turtle dock. Same price as on Amazon but free shipping. New.

CherryRipe1 · 22/01/2025 11:41

Yes, buying and selling since year 2000. Have got some great stuff over the years & made a few thousand selling clothes & collectables. I don't mind bidding for some stuff but do use buy it now if it's something I need quite urgently.

ghostbusters · 22/01/2025 11:52

I've made £80 selling stuff on eBay in the last 90 days. I buy and sell loads of things.
Though I was listing piles of kids toys yesterday and I noticed that the buyer now chooses the postage method. Before this week I could choose whether I posted things via courier or Royal Mail. Unless I listed items wrong and I could have chosen.

Dobbyatemysocks · 22/01/2025 13:54

I love eBay!!

3D puzzles are my favourite obsession at the moment and after a quick look, I have purchased about 10 puzzles which cost me a fraction of the full price.

I also buy dvds, books and have built up my "mumflix" dvd collection to over 1000 titles. This started during lockdown and now I 'rent' films to family and friends for 50p. The 'fees' are then used to purchase more titles or bags of microwave popcorn (every hire gets a bag of popcorn with it). My family and friends love it!!

I also purchased the A5 folders and sleeves so that I could reduce the space the dvds where taking up. We even have a suggestion list of dvds to buy next.

Arlanymor · 22/01/2025 13:56

I don’t like giving money to Amazon and often eBay is cheaper anyway. I use it to buy bits and pieces here and there, and planning on doing a big sale of stuff I don’t need/use at the weekend.

whaddayawannado · 22/01/2025 13:57

Yes, I buy stuff on ebay, usually small pieces of vintage 50's/60's jewellery, the occasional second-hand book related to another hobby and sometimes I do buy new things. The last item being some rice paper for making macaroons. I have yet to make the macaroons. Grin

Asvoria · 22/01/2025 13:58

I get lots from ebay and it accounts for about 90% of my online purchases. I get pet products, medicines, clothing - new and used - coffee filters, shoes, supplements, shampoo, small electricals and crafting stuff are some examples.

Lovelysummerdays · 22/01/2025 14:05

Not anymore. I used to buy clothes but have shimmied across to vinted for the bargains.

socialdilemmawhattodo · 22/01/2025 14:07

Yes I buy and sell. Quite niche 2nd hand products.

404ErrorCode · 22/01/2025 14:15

Things are changing on eBay from early feb. You’ll need to post the item, then wait for the money (like Vinted), which is something I don’t like as a seller, plus they will start charging the buyer a percent of the value of the item when purchasing.

I think this may have an impact on sales on there, so if you are going to sell, I’d try before then.

EBay have been losing out to Vinted for a few years now, and I think this move won’t do them any favours.

I've been selling clothes on eBay since the summer . I had some expensive things and didn't trust Vinted . I've made £800 so far . I've actually had an increase in sales this last couple of weeks, eBay will be charging an extra amount to the buyer come February so I wonder if it's that .
