Just that really, trying to figure out if it's a platform worth listing items for sale on or if people just either google what they are looking for or go straight to Amazon ?

Things are changing on eBay from early feb. You’ll need to post the item, then wait for the money (like Vinted), which is something I don’t like as a seller, plus they will start charging the buyer a percent of the value of the item when purchasing.

I think this may have an impact on sales on there, so if you are going to sell, I’d try before then.

EBay have been losing out to Vinted for a few years now, and I think this move won’t do them any favours.

Good reminder, that’s why I am selling stuff before 4 February.

Ebay always used to be my go to. Now it's often amazon although I am trying to reduce that because other businesses just don't get a look in these days!! And I've bought so many crap 5* items on there that I just don't trust their reviews...

I spent about £45 on ebay at the weekend on a bunch of hard-to-find Hot Wheels cars for DS.

DH has an eBay package arriving virtually every day. So, yes, people do still shop on eBay.

I use ebay quite a lot. Sometimes it's eaiser to find what I want compared to Vinted. And handy to find local secondhand items as you can't filter for a location on Vinted.

Me too! After that, going to stick to my local Facebook selling groups.

Thanks all might give it a go, looking to do print on demand so worth a try.

Ye I use eBay a lot.

i tend to look for stuff there as well as use search engines just to check if they have it as sometimes postage is cheaper (if seller offers free delivery) If I find two things that are similar but one of them is on a site I’m not familiar with I tend to lean towards eBay because I know I can open a case if they aren’t a good seller.

i Bought a handmade birthday card from there recently and was really happy with the quality.
the man had a little printed blurb that he included in with it about this being a hobby but he’s wants to always make them the best quality he can that he doesn’t make much but he makes a little bit from which he jovially says pays for his occasional beer. I found the little note quite amusing and actually I liked that I had bought from a independent person and it “big business”

Same!

No not for years

Cazeesh · 22/01/2025 18:48

Personally, I used to use it much more often maybe 10+ years ago. My sister absolutely loves it though, she’s always buying bits on there

NetZeroZealot · 22/01/2025 18:53

I sell on eBay - always Buy It Now. Stuff we no longer need, old phones & laptops, clothes with a recognisable brand in good condition etc. Someone is buying it!

Occasionally buy stuff too.

NetZeroZealot · 22/01/2025 18:54

If I'm buying I find more stuff I like on Etsy.

Screamingabdabz · 22/01/2025 18:56

I still buy stuff on eBay but not some much clothes any more. Having said that, if an item I wanted was on vinted or ebay I’d still rather buy off eBay.

tillyandmilly · 22/01/2025 18:57

Closing my ebay business down end of month after 14 years - sadly too many ebay rules and policies ruining it for business sellers these days and the fees are astronomical! Going to start selling on Vinted Pro!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 22/01/2025 18:58

I still look but I rarely buy because people ask more for secondhand items than Amazon ask for new ones.

LittleLlama · 22/01/2025 19:04

I buy and sell a few things on eBay. Postage seems more expensive (than vinted). Selling is much better now there are no fees, although like others I am wondering how the changes in February will impact on this. There is a lot more hand crafted items, which I like. I also like the “holiday mode” better on eBay, where buyers can still see your items but you have more time to post.

TopazEyes · 22/01/2025 19:09

Best place for second hand books IMO. Also stationary and greetings cards at reasonable prices.

The fake reviews and their clear scammer businesses are the main reason I have stopped shopping at Amazon over the last 5 years. Only use them very infrequently. I complained and complained to customer services. No real action - no real intention to do anything. I probably wasn't their biggest customer but I have dropped Prime, order little. 20 years ago I would have ordered the families entire Christmas list from there. So if I feel like this and have acted this way - have other customers?

Oriunda · 22/01/2025 20:27

I'll buy occasionally on Ebay, but won't sell. I much prefer Vinted, where as a seller I have zero costs, don't pay postage etc. Conversely as a buyer on Vinted a simple €1 book will cost me €4ish with fees/postage , but I much prefer it.

Happyher · 22/01/2025 20:51

I still buy and sell on eBay. I’m not a Vinted fan. I do pay to promote on eBay. I only pay 10% and increase the price of the item to reflect this. I usually buy after a google search sends me to eBay. Never really had a problem buying or selling
