Okay this is something that bothers me and I need to vocalise it

Years and years ago my cousins best mate had a new baby, my cousin and her husband babysat the baby, the baby was about 8 weeks maybe? Something like that. My cousin had a bath with the baby, her best mate found out (well my cousin told her) and she went apeshit. Their friendship never recovered and they don't speak anymore.

This is fucked up isn't it ? I wouldn't dream of bathing with another persons baby, my own yes, but not my friends or anyone's for that matter.
Is it just me that thinks this is fucking weird ??
Why would you think that yes, this is okay and a normal thing to do.

I just needed to get that out because it still pops into my mind every now and then and I just 🤷‍♀️

Honestly, I don’t think it’s that weird.

Zippidydoodah · 18/01/2025 15:06

Yes it’s fucking weird.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 18/01/2025 15:08

If your cousin didn't have experience of babies and the baby had a poonami or other similar type of explosive bodily thing, then maybe getting into the bath was easier for your cousin than trying to bath a small slippery baby? I remember taking my first child in the bath with me rather than try to bath him as I was terrified of dropping him when he was all wet.

No my cousin just wanted to have a bath with a tiny baby again as hers were older at this point. I think it's weird I really do !

Why did she go apeshit? I think it’s a bit weird too but it’s not something I’d go apeshit over if it was my best friend

This seems to be a bit of a reoccurring subject on here.

Have you posted about it before OP?

It wasn't weird until this

Wanting to have a bath with a tiny baby? One you're not even related to?

No never, I wanted to post it for ages but haven't until now, I really thought more people would agree and say it's strange. Maybe not lol

@WeeOrcadian I don't think it's anything sinister, but my cousin, well that's a whole other thread. She's not right, alcoholic now, she wasn't at that point. But this is just one thing, a whole book could be written about her life honestly

saveforthat · 18/01/2025 15:15

I don't think it's that weird either, unusual but not weird. Do you think there is something sexual about it, an 8 week old baby?

biggreenapple24 · 18/01/2025 15:16

It's very very weird.

The only thing I can think is the cousin was desperate for her own baby and wanted to play mum? But it's a spectacularly bad judgement call.

Missionimprobable · 18/01/2025 15:17

It's kinda strange and awkward, slippery baby & not her slippery baby etc.
My dsis had a bath with my dd years ago, the weird thing about that was my dsis got in the bath with a t-shirt and shorts on, she thought that would be less weird, I thought it made it weirder.

Happyinarcon · 18/01/2025 15:18

I think it was more common in the older generations to do this. I know i shared baths with a couple of older aunties when I was a toddler

stayathomer · 18/01/2025 15:20

I’d totally find it weird too

suburberphobe · 18/01/2025 15:22

Yea, weird. I wouldn't dream of getting in a bath with a baby.

Yoheresthestory · 18/01/2025 15:24

Dont find it that weird.

GoodVibesHere · 18/01/2025 15:25

Why do you need to talk about it now? It was years and years ago. Is it not just a distant memory by now, of something just slightly out-of-the-ordinary but not too weird that happened ages ago.

suburberphobe · 18/01/2025 15:22

You mean you wouldn't dream of getting in a bath with another person's baby.
Well tbh, neither would I.
OP said her cousin wanted to experience again the way she felt bathing with her own babies.
Understandable, but most people wouldn't act on that.
She's the one who openly told her mate, the baby's mum, nothing hidden.
I think it was an unusual thing to do and if her friend was upset, and there were other instances of questionable judgements from your cousin, that could end a friendly relationship.

ginasevern · 18/01/2025 15:43

I take it was the female friend and not her husband who shared the bath? Now that would be of great concern. Assuming it was the female friend then I would view it as potentially unsafe but not jaw droppingly weird. I mean, it's not something I'd do with someone else's baby but I don't see it as being scandalous - unless there's a lot more to the story.

YellowDaffodilRedTulip · 18/01/2025 15:59

It’s weird. They probably wouldn’t be babysitting again.

HollyKnight · 18/01/2025 16:12

Definitely weird. Especially because she did it to satisfy her own desires rather than it being about the needs of the baby. It's a bit...exploitive. I wouldn't let someone who used my baby like that near them again either.

sometimesmovingforwards · 18/01/2025 16:16

It’s weird af

AshCrapp · 18/01/2025 16:29

Come on, of course it's weird. Honestly anything that centers the adult's needs over the baby's is weird at that age. The idea that this baby didn't even need a bath but she wanted to specially do this activity is really odd.
