Which celebs have you met in daily life?

I just met actor Irene Marot, who played Ron Dixon’s wife DD in Brookside, when she asked me for directions on a London street corner. Happy to report that she is absolutely delightful IRL. (I told her she looked familiar and she seemed surprised and chuffed that I had recognised her.)

So, which “celebrities” (A-list or otherwise) have you met by chance in a “civilian” or daily life context. And what were they like?

OP posts:

Had lunch with Julia Donaldson and her husband, both lovely and friendly. Bumped into (quite literally!) Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran while out walking, again, both very friendly and smiley.

I met Helen Flanagan in a shop in Glasgow. She was really pretty and came across as kind and down to earth while speaking with myself and my daughter.

i also met the first Big Brother winner Craig Phillips at a reception desk in a hotel. He was also friendly. However, I never realised who he was and thought it was someone I knew as he seemed so familiar! I was stark b at him thinking how do I know you ?

I have quite a few-
Joan Collins- fabulous
Holly Willoughby- Rude
Judge Rinder- lovely
Jason Derulo- a bit strange
Jo Frost- rude
Lisa Riley- fabulous
Andrea McClean- lovely
Benedict Cumberbatch- charming & his wife if beautiful
Jermaine Defoe- actually really nice
Gemma Collins- hilarious
Sadie Frost- lovely

Interesting. Jermaine Defoe was physically aggressive to me when I met him. My job was to give him a tour of somewhere and he was nasty about it. Really creeped me out

Rolf Harris when I was about 6. He was stood outside Woolworths in Maidenhead in the early 80s. He was wearing a poncho I remember. My parents regularly saw him out and about. My dad stopped to let him cross the road once. No acknowledgement of thanks so my dad stuck his fingers up at him apparently 😆

Edited

I do thank drivers but also consider that drivers almost never thank pedestrians for waiting to cross the road. It especially iris me when dozens of lunchtime workers in London will wait for cars containing just one person!

Keanu Reeves - super lovely, tried to cheer me up when I was crying.
Olivia Colman - came across as shy and sweet
David Morrissey - wonderful
grayson Perry - honest, vulnerable, funny, open
daisy haggard - funny, friendly
Tobias Menzies - awkward, shy

I didn’t speak to her but sat behind Joanna Lumley on a train to Scotland. She shared a table with two young female tourists who had no idea who she was but she chatted away with them and the table of very excited ladies sitting across from them. She got off the train in Fife (to meet Gordon Brown and his wife who were waiting for her on the platform) and the ladies then got out their phones to show the young girls who Joanna was and they were still non the wiser but seemed happy to have met her.

Have met Brian May a few times as my old office was in the same building as a music related company and he would also visit. He was very polite, tall and friendly.

Used to work in offices in Soho and would see Suggs from Madness all the time. He was incredibly cheerful, everyone knew him and would say hello to him and he always stopped for fans. Seems like a lovely man.

Walked past Keira Knightly a few times in London. She’s so beautiful in real life. I was quite taken aback every time I saw her.

TheAirfryerQueen · 16/01/2025 06:15

Lots on the Tube. Joanna Lumley, Roy Hodgeson, various soap stars, Cheryl Baker, tons.

I went to school with Craig. Other than his experiences have naturally made him a bit more sophisticated than the lad he was, he's not changed a bit. Had a tough time growing up, his dad was killed in a tragic accident.

The best day of my work life was when Hugh Grant appeared! He was really lovely.

I'd love to meet Hugh. A friend met him in a ski resort and he was lovely. I've never fancied him, but he just seems like such good fun. He's the male a Joanna Lumley in my eyes

fixingmylife · 16/01/2025 07:48

Dylan Moran sitting outside a cafe in Edinburgh. He was writing something and I told him that I loved his work!

StMick · 16/01/2025 07:52

Also I was in the same hotel bar as Danny Dyer, he was at the next table. We were group of work colleagues/friends seeing each other for first time in a while so we were chatty and laughing alot. He looked over and we just smiled at each other. After he left, the bartender came over with a round of drinks "from the gentleman who was sitting next to you". What a lovely thing to do.

@MoonWoman69 The Fleece in Farsley? Used to see a lot of the Emmerdale cast in there in the late 80s and 90s

That's the one! Small world! 😁

ChristmaslightsuptilJanuary · 15/01/2025 20:50

Does/did your village begin with F? I went to school there if so

Spot on! 😁

jampickles · 16/01/2025 07:59

I have met a few celebrities - eg. Vernon Kay in a nightclub in Leeds before he was famous (maybe 1993) - he was quite a chatterbox and told me all about how he wanted to be on TV and a recent TV extra thing he had done but he was also quite sleazy! By contrast Keith Flint from The Prodigy came up to me at one of his gigs and asked if I knew of any after parties the band could come to with me and my friend — he was actually really shy and polite whilst I was a bit star struck so it was all very awkward 😂 and I didn’t know of any parties!

Tony Robinson - condescending pretentious tit.

Tony Robinson, friendly, engaged, absolutely lovely.

Ditto Hairy Bikers

ThatAgileLimeCat · 16/01/2025 08:19

Was staying at same hotel as Ant Mcpartlin once so bumped into him a couple of times over the weekend. He was surprisingly lovely (for some reason I'd always assumed he wouldn't be).

Rylan. Total sweetheart.

My son played with Charlie Brooker and Connie Huqs child at Chessington. Also saw David Mitchell and Victoria, Romesh Ranganathan, Sophie Ellis Bextor and someone from Emmerdale on the same day.

Bruce Dickinson and other members of Iron Maiden at different times. Bruce Dickinson is lovely. Didn't speak to the others.
Ghost. Really friendly. As was Adam Woodyatt (Ian Beale)

They say never to meet your idols but I met mine (very niche , name won't mean anything to 99.9999 % of population, as she was randomly attending a tiny gig in London that I was at. She was very very sweet with a very starstruck me.

Met various others too but at award ceremonies, backstage etc so their daily life but not mine.

RolliPop · 15/01/2025 19:15

Absolutely lovely. Cillian more aloof but pleasant.
Charlotte Riley is absolutely beautiful, just stunning and so sweet, she helped me take a selfie because I was flustered 🤣
Ditto Tom, he was really nice, pulled me in for a hug/photo. Really chatty.
Didn't get a photo with Cillian because he looked like he wanted to leave but really nice.

Tom Hardy pulled you in for a hug?!?! I would die 😩

SinnerBoy · 16/01/2025 09:00

In 2019, I was at the tall ships in Sunderland and went to the town centre. A woman asked me if I knew where a particular pub was, I sort of recognised her and thought that we might have been on some of the same courses at university.

I wasn't able to help, sadly. Eventually, the penny dropped and I said, "Oh, you're Sinitta!" quietly and she smiled and said yes.

I've been an extra on Byker Grove a few times, in my 20s. I didn't really talk to the actors, but the girl who played Spuggy was a live wire.

I was an extra in Spender, Jimmy Nail was an arrogant arsehole, who wouldn't speak to anyone, not even his old mate, who grew up doors away.

Geoffrey Hughes was great, a friendly raconteur. He bought everyone - there were about 20 of us - at least one drink. Signed autographs and photos, lovely bloke.

Aw I very briefly met the Hairy Bikers, such a warm, funny and joyful couple of blokes. Gave a vibe that they gave THE BEST hugs.

I met Keir Starmer about fifteen years ago and thought he was smoking hot.

My 12 year old met him recently at Arsenal and said ‘Good hair’.

Stood next to Ronnie Corbett in Harrods Food Hall. Always remember it as he was in a salmon pink blazer, he was buying onion bhajis and 'signed for them' on account. He was very pleasant and polite to staff. And yes he is that tiny 😀

When I was at school, a mate of mine was his paperboy. Said he was a smashing chap and always good for a fiver at Christmas.

I work in a tv studios so have met a fair few but my favourite is Roy Keane because I was talking to him for ages about the weather and had no idea who he was until someone told me so we had a selfie cause he found it funny as well.

Ah I love Roy Keane 😍

I used to work in theatre so met loads (just to say hello to or have small talk with). Some of the nicest:
Guy Garvey (Elbow)
Shane Richie
Shobna Gulati
Craig Charles
All of Take That (post Robbie). Genuinely nicest blokes you'll ever meet
Roy Walker

The worst:
Peter Kay - Rude! This was in his early days though - I've heard people say he's lovely so maybe just met him on a bad day?!
Antony Cotton - Awful. Thought he was an A list celeb 😂
Curly from Coronation Street

I've met Banksy

Was he with Elvis ?

Fred Flintoff. Unassuming, no side you him at all. Very tall.

We were watching him on something the other night and I said I bet he's lovely - he just comes across so well!
