Does anyone else give their car a name?

Or is it just me being odd.

I bought my first car in June after not driving at all for nearly 20 years. Which was the last time I drove with any regularity, the car I used then was a temporary loan from my in laws.

I’ve grown quite attached to it and called her Percy! I think some of it is down to the independence I’ve got back. The main reason I bought it was because my Dad was in hospital for a couple of months back in the summer and my Mum is no longer allowed to drive so it meant I could help my Mum out and take her to see my Dad. I feel now too that I can go to my parents whenever I need too.

I know ‘it’s only a car’, but she’s Percy to me.

2 of our cars have had the same name "Roland"
Peugeot 205 as it was a "Gift" from my step mum when she stopped driving.
Mazda MX5 as it's a bit "Ratty"

I had a car in my 20s named after someone who was at that moment one of the most well known people in UK and a fair chunk of the world. He came from the town I'd just moved away from.
Go forward 20 odd years (he's no longer that famous) and I've moved back to the same county (different town) and found he lives close by, his kids went to my youngest's school and I vaguely got to know him. Never mentioned the car....

My very first car was a bubblegum pink Polo called Cecil the gay car. My neightbour (gay man) had a red Fiat Cinquecento called Pepper. Cecil and Pepper were in a relationship and we used to park them bonnet to bonnet so they were kissing!
I’ve had Tiger the Range Rover and Bernard the Honda Civic.
Then I got a brand new silver Civic called Flash.
Love a named car!

No. I don't name cars.

Is it a woman thing? Do many men name cars?

Nope, not a woman thing - my little boy has just called my new Orange mini the 'Little Wotsit' and a few years back I owned a bright Green Seat Ibiza FR (a bit sportier/faster then your average Seat) &, on its first outing to work, ome of my male colleagues decided to call it 'The Flying Lettuce'... Here's me & the little Wotsit debuting on Google Streetview (oooh, that might make a good new thread!!) shortly after I got her...

Oh yes, we do. My first car was Morris the Metro, then I had Fred the Fiesta. When I met DH he had a very sleek Rover which I wasn’t allowed to name 😠 but I then got my revenge when we sold that and bought an Astra which I promptly called Alf.

Since then we’ve had Alessandro the Alfa Romeo and Claude the Citroen, our current car is a Fiat which DH said he wasn’t going to name but he did a fairly nifty bit of overtaking the other day and said ‘well done Rex’ (the number plate begins RX) so Rex he has become.

Always! Their number plate tells you their name. Cars are like family to us and we hold onto them forever, the last one was 25 🤭

Current car is called Norman

All my cars are called Bessie. My Mum had a Betsy when I was young and I think that was Dr Who's car's name - but as a teenager my friend called her car Bessie and I suppose that sounded familiar and I have stuck with it since.

DH hates it - especially when I call one of his Bessie, but I can't help it. We have a lot of vehicles (old bangers) - business, practical and he has a couple of 'toys' - but to me they are all Bessie.

He also has three elderly tractors, one is named after my Great Aunt who left us a small amount of money in her will which DH used to buy it......😁!
