Something that maybe got lost in a house move, left behind when you left home, broken, or that you didn't realise how much you loved until years later. Something that when you think about it now fills you with nostalgia.

Mine is the sun/moon face watch (day/night as opposed to a classic moonphase) that my mum bought me for my 16th birthday in 1988. They were such a thing then and I loved them so much. She got it from the catalogue and was still paying for it by my next birthday bless her. DD bought me a version of it for Christmas and I absolutely love it, but I wish I had the original too.

Also my original Magic Faraway Tree books from the 70s.

What's yours?

I had a knitting machine, not one of these circle things you can get now but one you moved the shuttle left and right to make a rectangle of fabric you could then sew into things.
I think it was made my Tomy I loved it so much. I had a sewing machine in the same range. I have many (well 5) grown up sewing machines but never seen a grown up version of my knitting machine.

I had one of those! I remember making tiny 'scarves' on it 😄

My Polly Pocket collection. We had very little and it was my pride and joy, I saved up Christmas and birthday money to buy it. My lovely old aunt used to buy me the magazine too. I’d love to have it all again, I know my littlest would get so much play from it all. Objects aside, I’d do anything for one more day with my grandad too.

callmebuffy · 12/01/2025 18:27

My yellow and blue roller boots. I loved them so much,

Barbadossunset · 12/01/2025 18:28

I had a book of fairy tales from around the world called Once Long Ago which I loved and which vanished from the bookshelf at my parents house after I had left home.
For years I looked out for it without success in seconds hand bookshops ….and then along came Amazon and Abe Books and I was able to track down a copy.

Spidey66 · 12/01/2025 18:30

A dolls house. Not just any old dolls house. My dad made it for me for Christmas when I was 5. I loved it.

Givemethreerings · 12/01/2025 18:30

My blue chopper bike

Retronostalgia · 12/01/2025 18:32

Mine is the same as yours OP.

ChristmasPudd1990 · 12/01/2025 18:33

My Sindy dolls and furniture,my little ponies and all the knitted clothes my late nan made for my dolls 🥹My secondary school recipes.

Daleksatemyshed · 12/01/2025 18:47

@Spidey66 my Uncle made me a doll's house, it was beautiful, foolishly I passed it on to my Niece. My sister gave it away and bought her a plastic Barbie doll's house instead. Some people have no appreciation of how precious handmade things can be.

Gassylady · 12/01/2025 18:53

I made a green and brown felt owl in a sewing class in school. It was gorgeous all neatly hand sewn. After my mum died I couldn’t find it in the box of school bits or anywhere else 😢 She had kept all my Sindy stuff though which included some outfits my nan had made. I passed those on to a collector via eBay

RobinHumphries · 12/01/2025 18:56

I had an original play dough dr drill and fill - I grew up and trained as a dentist.
Also had a little train set. It was battery powered and the trained “climbed” a tower and then gravity caused it to roll down the tracks to the base of the tower. Never seen anything like it. Both were kept at my grandparents and when they downsized they were got rid of

Zuve · 12/01/2025 19:03

I loved my rollor skates. I used to wobble but my friends kept me going. It was loads of fun

Tomrrowandtomorrowandtommorrow · 12/01/2025 19:10

My Sindy house, two Sindys and all their amazing clothes.... I wish I could have passed them on to my daughters.

And my teddies. My mum got rid of everything.

I remember those watches. The Magic Faraway Tree books must surely still be available? I love visiting vintage shops as you see lots of stuff from household to clothing and it’s a lovely nostalgic thing to do. I’m quite sentimental and have lots of special things from my 70s childhood.

Hedjwitch · 12/01/2025 19:15

A book called Pondus the Penguin.

Ahwig · 12/01/2025 19:18

The 50-60's Christmas decorations that I complained about as at the time (1970-80's ) I wanted the newer trendier ones . Now I wish my mum had kept them. She threw out all of the decorations she had in a massive declutter. But I would love those metallic open faced and proper glass baubles.

My blue chopper bike

I had a yellow chopper bike, I wish that I knew then how cool it was, I’d asked for a Raleigh shopper with a basket on the front, dad misheard me, I never let on it, but I was very envious of the girls with their shoppers.

MargaretThursday · 12/01/2025 19:54

I collected these 2" high rubber dolls. I had about 50 and they all had names, and matching outfits that I'd made for them. Dm thinks they're somewhere in the loft so hopefully I'll get them back at some point.

The photo of me and my dad on my 18th bday that my mother stole as she was angry I saw him.
The 10 week scan photo of my first baby that my mother ripped up saying it was disgusting again when I was 18😞

Berlinlover · 12/01/2025 19:57

My stamp collection.

I had a stamp collection too - it was confiscated in case any were valuable 😂😂😂

Youngheartsalittletogetherness · 12/01/2025 20:52

A burgundy vespa 50 special bought with money from my part time job when I was 15.
£200 in 81.
