part of me thinks ohh could be a secret hater, part of me thinks they are active on social media but like to
pretend they are not

part of me thinks they don’t know how it works and they thinking they like your post everyone they know will see it or something

What do you think ?

Someone I follow asked this very question recently and I was really worried, because I frequently watch stories and don't give them a like. I didn't know that was the correct thing. Of course, I like some stories, but I can't be arsed to like absolutely everything. Its made me think about not looking at any stories to be honest.

Housebuy1 · 12/01/2025 11:39

Couldn’t give a shite to be honest…gave up all that kind of social media anyway. If you’re wasting any brain space on this then I’m baffled to be honest

AngeloMysterioso · 12/01/2025 11:42

Do people really give headspace to that sort of thing?

PigInAHouse · 12/01/2025 11:43

Absolutely nothing.

savuni27 · 12/01/2025 11:44

I like to aimlessly scroll when I'm relaxing, I don't want to interact though. It doesn't mean anything.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 12/01/2025 11:45

I don't do stories, but I don't think anything of whether people 'like' or look at my social media posts tbh. I don't 'like' or comment on many of the posts I look at either.

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 12/01/2025 11:45

I don't post stories but hadn't realised that having to like something after you watched it was a thing.

Why does it matter? Why are you worrying about what it means? Perhaps most other people aren't aware of the unwritten social media etiquette that the hard-core social media users have decided upon?

tailinthejam · 12/01/2025 11:46

Most people wouldn't care one jot either way. I know I wouldn't.

It's probably a bit of all three.

It's probably a bit of all three.

Or in my case, none of them.

Yes and this option too. 😁

notprincehamlet · 12/01/2025 11:53

They CBA because social media just isn't that important?
... we live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people ...

JennyTals · 12/01/2025 11:53

I actually do this myself on ig
as I only watch a handful of people
so I heart their stories
but not posts

reason I don’t heart posts is I don’t want others to feel left out as in why is jen liking x post but not mine
so I only heart stories

Absolutely nothing .
Algorithm is so fucked now, I regularly wonder why I haven't seen someon on for ages then find out 5 posts which never showed🤷

That's bit ott if people feel left out for that tbh

CurbsideProphet · 12/01/2025 11:56

I presume they're like me and have limited time on Instagram and watch a few stories while they're having a bit of mindless scrolling. I can't imagine that anyone really cares.

PuppyMonkey · 12/01/2025 11:57

Perhaps they watched your story but didn’t like it at all.

You like every story you watch? Why? And why do you think people would care that you’d ’left them out’?

Doggymummar · 12/01/2025 12:02

I never post anything on social media. I see reels on FB, don't know what a Story is or what platform they are from but I never like anything, wouldn't know how. I leave a like on my hairdressers Facebook posts as she seems to keep some sort of tally and gives people gifts when they get a certain number. I got a nice bottle of conditioner on Thursday. She asked me to follow her in Instagram but I don't know how to use that.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 12/01/2025 12:03

I dont think anything. I'm too old to give a shit about stuff like that thank God.

Im pleased social media wasnt this all important all consuming stuff when i was a child because growing up i was exactly the type that would have cared too much. I absolutely would have been one of those seeking validation from strangers and sobbing over mean posts. I had zero confidence.

I'm so glad I'm an old fart! The Internet is great in so many ways, but I do worry what it's doing to youngsters.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 12/01/2025 12:06

Are we supposed to like things we've watched?

Is it supposed to work like a 'thank you for posting this' or something?

It's genuinely never occurred to me before.

No I mean I watch only the stories of the handful I want to
and I heart the stories

but I don’t like the posts
incase others see

This reminds me of the old “why didn’t you like my post on Facebook”. I’m not here to validate you is the answer.

justfornow1 · 12/01/2025 12:27

The couple of times I've liked stories it's ended up starting a private message thread which I really can't be bothered with so I never like any and tend to not watch either anymore .
