What do you do for fun?

As the title suggests what do you do for fun?
Last year was really tough with bereavements stress and trauma.
I want to make the effort to have more fun in 2025. I have a disability which makes most exercise/physical hobbies not feasible but apart from that I’m willing to give anything a try!
At the moment I do a lot of reading, Tv watching and scrolling.

Also have a stressful job supporting people but I’ve managed to go part time now.

cook and freeze into portions
Go to galleries, walk in Ldn
use mindfulness apps

SometimesOverwhelmed · 10/01/2025 19:06

Reading
Playing boardgames
Knitting scarves (everything else is beyond my skillset!)
Swimming - also have a disability but I can do this!
Netflix

I think I mainly do scrolling though

xmasdealhunter · 10/01/2025 19:07

I've just started to teach myself (with the help of youtube!) to crochet.

Paradoes · 10/01/2025 19:07

Watch too much YouTube (mainly home decor videos)

I do swim but haven’t gone in a while

I spend time with my kids and enjoy that ;they are funny)

I have a plan though to do a day trip every two or three weeks on either a sat or sun so I’m actually planning that now

MiddleAgedDread · 10/01/2025 19:08

For my none outdoorsy/exercise based hobbies:

Play games (video, card and board!)
Read
Build Lego
Embroidery
Origami
Paint, poorly but it's fun
Scrapbook

frozendaisy · 10/01/2025 19:17

I am currently mastering curries.
Draw
Listen to new albums
Try cryptic crosswords
Soon will be planting seeds I have big visions for a herb patch, you can freeze many green herbs and they make food interesting
Visit galleries
Walk in the woods
Go outside and breathe cold air into lungs

Augustus40 · 10/01/2025 19:19

Definitely reading. I just reread The Sea The Sea by Iris Murdoch.

Amarree · 10/01/2025 19:32

I write stories. Just for me. No one else has read them. I like reading but I prefer writing my own stories.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 10/01/2025 19:43

This is also a big goal for me this year.

I enjoy cooking - this year I want to cut back on UPFs (who doesn't 😂) and make more yummy food from scratch. Maybe take up gardening?

Board games - I'm fully accidentally immersed into a world of gaming conventions, board game cafes/meets etc. This year I want to find more people locally to play with.

Theatre productions, and comedy nights. I've realised in the last few years local amateur musical theatre is normally pretty good quality, and always a bundle of laughs.

Hosting/having friends round for dinner. I love planning this kind of thing and do themed dinner parties (great as then I don't have to get a babysitter for DS 😂) ~ if I'm short on time/unable to cook loads potlucks always go down well too.

Really appreciate these ideas thank you. You all do lovely things. Definitely need to make an effort to include some lightness into life. Even the podcasts I listen to have heavy topics!

I’ve just discovered the ‘Have I Got News For You’ podcasts. 🙂

Meta quest. There's a ton of things you can do on it. My mate does 3d jigsaws with other people.

BobbyBiscuits · 10/01/2025 19:57

I feel you. I really want to try and start some new hobbies. I'm having quite bad health issues physically and mentally so can't commit to anything where I might disappoint others.

I like gardening. If you don't have a garden then window box? Herbs and flowers. Or even some veg like tomatoes you can grow indoors by a window.

I enjoy cooking too. You could organise a charity bake sale in your local community? Or offer to cook for elderly people who live alone?

Would you be interested in learning another language? Doing a pub quiz? A gentle exercise like walking or beginners yoga/swimming?

Volunteering? It doesn't have to be something very physical.

Your local library or community centre or FE college should have some adult classes you could try?

I hope you can find something that appeals to you. X

alloutofcareunits · 10/01/2025 19:59

Make my own clothes
Knit
Crochet
Gym
Running
Walk the dogs
Play the piano (or try to)
Lego
Listen to music
Read
I think it's important for me to do something fun everyday to offset work stress and the fact I resent how much time I have to spend there when I'd rather do any of the above

PersephoneSmith · 10/01/2025 19:59

Singing! I’m in 2 choirs so 2 rehearsal sessions each week and lots of practising. It’s impossible to be stressed or anxious when you are singing. It’s very good therapy as well as a lot of fun.
My other hobby is going to the theatre. I try to go at least twice a month if not more. Musicals are my favourite but I also see plays, opera, ballet etc

MassiveSalad22 · 10/01/2025 20:02

Watch a lot of Bravo TV (assuming you do too from your username 😁😁 if not, highly recommend below deck haha)

Have a list of movies and musicals to watch on Disney+ - recently watched Come From Away

Go to theatre in London (we’re close)

Crochet

Piano

Walk round the neighbourhood with a podcast (love doing this!)

See friends

Use my telescope on a clear night

Home improvements, mainly enjoy painting walls and upcycling

Painting as in watercolours

Sad but I find having a clear out fun!

Baking - went through a proper patisserie phase

I sing in a choir. It’s sociable but not competitive. We sing a cappella and don’t use sheet music when performing. I enjoy the challenge of this but there are all sorts of different standard of choir from fun community choirs to by audition performing choirs. Choirs tend to attract chatty friendly people.

MassiveSalad22 · 10/01/2025 20:06

Also the NYTpuzzles make me happy daily

FreshSpringGreen · 10/01/2025 20:09

Spend time with my friends.
Go to the gym/pool/spa.
Read.
Watch TV.
Play with DC.
Cook.
