Do Neurotypical people identify with traits on this list too?

Having sat through DS's autism assessment and seeing myself in a lot of his traits, I'm now in the process of seeking an autism assessment for myself. I've been spending a lot of time reading about autistic traits in undiagnosed/high masking women, and I really identify with a lot of them.

When I read some of these things though, I am surprised that this wouldn't be how a lot of fairly intelligent, slightly anxious people feel. The people I know well enough to ask are all some kind of neurodivergent themselves. So I thought I'd ask on here.

This is an example of a list I found. I read it and just thought well obviously, that sounds quite like me but would a lot of women not see themselves in a lot of this, autistic or not?

I would genuinely love to find out I'm autistic at this stage, I'm probably overthinking it... 😆

I have the screen shots but no I’m not going to repeat your rubbish. Mumsnet didn’t think your posts were ok so deal with it.

You are lying, there were no lies, you just cannot accept other people’s opinions, I don’t think you quite understand that you cannot tell if something is a lie from a comment on mumsnet, how could you?

How could you possibly know if someone is lying, it makes no sense

Oreyt · 09/01/2025 17:16

@thesaskedminger

If you genuinely think you have a disability, you would not be ousting the comments you have on here.

👏👏👏

Did you read her deleted comments? Appalling.

@LoveThatDog

I screen shot her comments too if she needs reminding.

Remind me of what lies were told then?

Oreyt · 09/01/2025 17:22

Well I can't because your replies were deleted so mine will be but for one

"They are really not that different to a lot of people they considered normal."

Oreyt · 09/01/2025 17:23

"they wear their ND status like a badge of honour"

Oreyt · 09/01/2025 17:23

I've got a huge list.

These are all opinions and part of a larger comment, I don’t think you quite know the definition of what a lie is

Oreyt · 09/01/2025 17:31

If I were you I'd be very ashamed of myself.

If I were you I'd be very ashamed of myself.

If I were you I would be very ashamed of calling someone a lier who was clearly giving an opinion, I have repeatedly said that those were opinions and not lies which is exactly what they are, The OPs post was about garnering opinions from a cross section of people and not just from one section of people

BunnyLake · 09/01/2025 17:52

I can tick a few of these but not nearly enough to think I might be ND. Although I have sometimes wondered if I am a tiny bit, which would explain some personal stuff over the years.

MyNewLife2025 · 09/01/2025 17:55

Im NT and I tick many of the boxes too.

Im realising I’m also dealing with childhood trauma which explains some behaviours too.
And I have a chronic illness that explains some quite a few others.

BunnyLake · 09/01/2025 18:02

lljkk · 09/01/2025 15:49

I imagine that I qualify as NT and I don't identify with those items at all. I kind of despair of people who take themselves too seriously. It's strongly cultural for me, too, my birth culture despairs of people who are too intense.

I may have been a lot more narcissistic & navel gazing when I was 15 or so, though.

Do people with ASD or autism ever relax or have fun? There's nothing positive or fun or uplifting in that list, is there? Does the list have to be so darn negative?

My son’s friend is autistic (in his twenties now) and he’s always had fun and likes a laugh. I always enjoy his company when he’s here.

I read your posts. There were lies too, not just opinions. I’m glad they’ve been deleted, just a shame mumsnet are being leniant on the banning but sometimes it’s better that people like you are challenged.

And I will challenge you for calling a person who gives an opinion a liar

Again, as I have said previously, what lies?, the last posters that accused me of being a liar were proven to be inaccurate as they were opinions and definitely not lies

So, what lies were they then, or can you not repost them?

As I have said before, you need to fully understand the definition of a lie and the difference between that and an opinion

If I repeat them, I’ll be deleted, like you were. I don’t want to be deleted. Mumsnet deleted your posts so they broke talk guidelines, take it up with them as you seem to like arguing and see where that gets you. 🤣

So, you call someone a liar but when asked to prove it or give examples you can’t 😂😂😂,
To be fair, you are the one who comes across badly now, that’s just silly

Oreyt · 09/01/2025 21:15

Give it a rest.

If we post what you did they will be deleted!!

They have got to be a troll!

WhatALazyCat · 09/01/2025 21:46

I’m not willing to be deleted and risk my account being banned to repeat what you said. Mumsnet decided it wasn’t suitable for their site. As I said, take it up with mumsnet. You’ll get absolutely nowhere though as you have not only had one post deleted, I think it’s 3 on this thread alone. Close to a ban I’d imagine. 👍

anonymous98 · 09/01/2025 23:40

Gosh OP, I relate to a lot of these. I was evaluated for autism at 14 and it was determined that I didn't have it- but who knows? It is quite a large list so probably encompasses a lot of people's experiences, both NT and ND. I do have really dreadful anxiety and a lot of these seem relatable from that perspective.

GildedRage · 10/01/2025 00:49

i'm nt
many of the traits i associate with being an only child (until 12).
approximately 3 traits out of each section, except for section d with maybe 1-2.
some questions like "questions place in the world" as a slightly religious person i do question, but equally find solace in my faith.
quirky sense of humor; as a nurse since the age of 17, i do love some dark humor (typical for my workplace).
maybe the older a person is and the more lived life experiences and life circumstances the less "accurate" this type of questioner is.
none of my unique characteristics have affected my ability to care for myself go about daily living, function in the workplace.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 10/01/2025 01:50

Not a useful list.

A lot of statements that will apply to almost everyone (who actually enjoys mundane tasks?).

Barnum statements (self-flattering but vague, most people will agree they think deeply and don't like animal cruelty because those are nonspecific 'nice person' traits and most people like to think of themselves as nice).

Things that could have a 101 other causes (you can have intestinal trouble because of coeliac, poor diet, lactose intolerance...).

And contradictory pairs (adapt to fit social norms/ignore social norms; participated at school/didn't participate at school - everyone will be one side or the other of the theoretical perfect midpoint.

Magamom · 10/01/2025 01:54

Just want to add I thought I was depressed but it turns out I have adhd and when untreated can give u depression symptoms. ADHD also has a few symptoms in common with autism so always get tested to get the right diagnosis. Meds didn’t work for me but lifestyle and diet changes including supplements made for adhd brains has helped me a lot.

Oreyt · 10/01/2025 06:35

@Magamom

Unfortunately no medication for autism. 😢
