Do you think Labour sending 100 'volunteers to work for Kamala during their election was justified?

Edited

Yes, it’s perfectly normal practice for a political party to practice exchanges with their foreign equivalent. It’s a form of work experience.

It was such a non-story that I’m embarrassed for you.

I wonder what these two twats want to distract us from.

I love that they are both showing themselves to be polarising, self obsessed wankers. They really don't need to make so much effort though. We got the memo years ago.

I have to admit I wouldn’t be surprised if it was all being staged to try and show Farage can’t be bought (he can).

that said, I’m perfectly happy watching this version of events!

Optigan · 06/01/2025 12:47

It's none of Musk's fucking business.

I don't care what the idiot Farage does, but Musk has no business meddling in UK politics.

"Labour sent" is not 100% accurate. 100 Volunteers, who are Labour supporters, went to support Kamala Harris is more accurate.

One of my adult children, who was then effectively a Labour Party worker, went out to support Barrack Obama in his first election. He took leave of absence and paid for his flights, accommodation etc himself. His boss, an MP, supported him going - but he was not sent, officially endorsed, part of a big organised/official group.

It happens both ways, with both parties, and has done for some time. Some get all hot under the collar about it. It's legal to go over there and volunteer.

On Twitter, Musk is now running a poll about whether 'America should liberate the UK from its tyrannical government'.

How many allies are Trump and Musk going to threaten in jest?

It's like America is being run by children.

Did they discover oil or something?

It's funny, it used to be all the hard-left-wing people who were incapable of getting on with each other, and who would form tentative alliances with each other only to fall out five minutes later, having huge strops and accusing everyone else of being evil, bigoted etc. (People's Front of Judea stuff, call-out culture, purity spirals...)

Now it looks like the hard-right-wing people are doing the same thing - hair-trigger offence-taking reflex, purity tests, constant whinging demands.

It's all rather exciting to watch.

Edited

The hard right have plenty of form for it too! If you look at the leading people in Reform, most of them have no history of being able to keep a tight ship for long. It seems to be the extremes who struggle to cohere.

The Tommy Robinson who pleaded guilty?

Guilty to what? Exposing the truth?

What truth?

mugglewump · 06/01/2025 13:27

Musk is a self-obsessed, racist South African - a country with a history of racism - whose money was made in mining (and what do we know about South African mine owners and racism?). The sooner this meglomaniac wankpissracist gets his pinocchio nose out of British politics, the better.

Should there be a limit on the financial worth of the people being sent to meddle in USA politics? If it is a volunteering position, then presumably the people going have the means to pay for themselves and the accommodation?

We can't say that we can send 100 people during the election campaign to meddle in the USA election, and yet get all upset when the USA does it straight back to the UK.

Either we all keep out of other people's politics or we don't. You can't say it is fine if you are on the Left but not if you aren't. You can't say some meddling is fine but other meddling isn't. Because that would be totally hypocritical.

RubyWinehouse · 05/01/2025 22:46

I'm guessing you all still rely on the mainstream media. Free Tommy Robinson

Brilliant

Echobelly · 06/01/2025 13:33

I'm finding this whole thing hilarious. Musk is displaying his utter ignorance of the UK and is stomping about like he's a kingmaker because he thinks he can change the leadership of a party with 5 MPs (which he can't).

Reform, sadly, do have the capability to be a disruptive force at the next election, but only with Farage at the helm, they'll be nothing without him, but Musk clearly has no idea of this.

He might cause a split in the party though, which would wreck what he is going for for certain!

hattie43 · 06/01/2025 13:37

I think he's become mentally unhinged . You think this is bad wait for him and trump to fall out .

noblegiraffe · 06/01/2025 13:37

RubyWinehouse · 06/01/2025 13:18

Guilty to what? Exposing the truth?

Guilty of contempt of court. If he didn’t do it (which he obviously did) why would he plead guilty?

He promised to stop spreading lies about a child then continued to spread them. It’s a pretty open and shut case tbh.

probably.

If it is a volunteering position, then presumably the people going have the means to pay for themselves and the accommodation?

why would you presume that? It’s not a universal requirement for every volunteer is it? I think it’s pretty accepted that volunteers can use donations and sponsorship for positions away from home.

We can't say that we can send 100 people during the election campaign to meddle in the USA election, and yet get all upset when the USA does it straight back to the UK.

I missed that. When did the USA send 100 people over to work for a political campaign? For a start I would presume a group would be sent under the banner of a particular political party, not ‘the USA’. I don’t doubt it has happened at some point but it certainly didn’t make waves… because sending a few interns to work as gophers during an election campaign really isn’t worthy of this much angst.

You can't say it is fine if you are on the Left but not if you aren't. You can't say some meddling is fine but other meddling isn't. Because that would be totally hypocritical.

I haven’t said any of that. You’ve literally just made up your own reasons to have an argument with yourself.

Hopefully before he's convinced trump to table an amendment to the constitution that allows foreign born nationals to become President and to invade Greenland/Panama/any other country that won't do as he demands and has a strategic location or resources, though.

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/01/2025 21:18

I think Musk's ignorant meddling is procrastination. In a couple of weeks he has to set up DOGE he's totally trolling USA with that one and he hasn't done any work on it.😱

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/01/2025 22:34

Musk is clearly a megalomaniacal sad case. Trump, ditto.

On his plus side, though (c’mon , it’s a massive stretch but we all have one) , Trump is famously tee-total and anti drugs.

Wonder how that’s going to work out?

BornFreeButinChains · 06/01/2025 22:39

He's a car maker, who cares?

I can't believe keir starmer even mentioned him today I was cringing.

BornFreeButinChains · 06/01/2025 22:39

Musk is hardly a sad case.

BornFreeButinChains · 06/01/2025 22:41

@Cornettoninja @hattie43 it's extremely obvious they will fall out, people are saying 3 to 6 months.

Musk is hardly a sad case.

Beg to differ. Financially, wealth beyond Croesus.
Clearly, emotionally desperately lacking.

Depends what your priorities are, I suppose.

He’s the richest man in the world and the president-elect of the US’s right-hand man. Millions of people read what he writes on Twitter.

He’s an arsehole, but pretending he isn’t influential is stupid.

BornFreeButinChains · 06/01/2025 22:59

It's not a question of priorities.

He's just not a sad case at all.
