but that may not make him wrong about Farage, and it depends all on context as to why he supports him etc

Edited

It really doesn’t depend why he supports him. SYL is a criminal. A racist. A man who thinks it’s absolutely fine to hit women. A man who claims to be against grooming and then endangers the outcome of trials. And supports his white supporters who are guilty of exactly the same thing.
He is a football hooligan who goes by the name of a previous football hooligan. A nasty horrible man.

I think it is hilarious all the people coming out to support Farage when Musk disses him on X yet apparently hated Farage just yesterday.

'Not my Nigel'. Brilliant.

Why all of the musk threads, all of the sudden?

Because it's one of the top news stories.

It’s possible to dislike both. And to dislike Farage ever so slightly less.

BobnLen · 06/01/2025 06:25

Farage looks an almighty twit but it would have been worse to agree with Musk on SYL

I think it’s all smoke and mirrors, just keeping themselves in the news constantly - a well known tactic.

Except Musk is not a 'usual' person. He doesn't need to do this to get into the media, he owns and controls one of the largest social media platforms in the world. He also has a huge desire to be popular - wouldn't be massively surprised if he read threads about himself on niche sites like Mumsnet. But his platform is far more influential than BBC news at 10. (This thread didn't get far before a pro-SYL 'mainstream media' post popped up). Tate and SYL both built huge (and hugely profitable) presence on social media, by the time mainstream media woke up they were already well established and embedded into the psyche of their target audience (who defend them and send them huge sums of money - eg SYL's defence fund but which he pleaded guilty.)

Lowe's profile has been boosted massively on Twitter, why? Who is that serving? Yes there's smoke and mirrors but not in any old tried and tested way. Whatever Musk is, he isn't predictable and shouldn't be dismissed so easily. He has the potential to be very very dangerous particularly if he gets his popularity buzz in an echo chamber.

Beezknees · 06/01/2025 07:03

Why is he getting involved in UK politics when he doesn't live in the UK?

Because he likes power and needs constant affirmation of his genius from those with power.

Lightswitchup · 06/01/2025 07:15

Musk is so clearly a liability, It was foolish on Farage’s part to go anywhere near him but obviously he couldn’t resist the scent of money.

swimsong · 06/01/2025 07:17

Chowtime · 05/01/2025 18:37

Indeed!

I wish Musk would just fuck off back where he came from.

Would be best if the megalomaniac fucked off to Mars already.

Oh a bit like labour then

Jesus Christ, the level of ignorance is astounding.

Violetparis · 06/01/2025 07:23

It's interesting to see how this will play out, Farage finally meeting someone more than his match in Musk. Both stirrers and disrupters.

Beezknees · 06/01/2025 07:03

The poster who referenced his background growing up under apartheid is probably the closest. If you look at the causes he supports it largely centres on the rights of white men. (Don't be fooled that he or SYL genuinely care about the victims in Rotherham etc)

He also owns global corporations, everywhere is his business.

theDudesmummy · 06/01/2025 07:26

Saying that Musk's behaviour/prickness is understandable because he grew up in apartheid SA is not fair, I did too. It's not an excuse, it's a lazy stereotype.

FruitPolos · 06/01/2025 07:34

It's even more hilarious when you realise that Reform isn't a political party, it's a registered company with Farage at its helm.

Reform is Farage and Farage is Reform. Just like Farage's previous parties that he was involved with.

I absolutely despise his politics but he's a savvy politician and knows his audience. Reform wouldn't exist without him.

Farage also knows that Musk is playing a dangerous game supporting Stephen Yaxley-Lennon because the centre right abhor him and Reform needs the centre right to be successful. Reform will get the hard right results regardless.

It just goes to show that ketamine fuelled Musk really has no clue about British politics.

Understandable isn't the right phrase, it's just a potential significant cause. You can't deny the huge social impact of apartheid on the children born into it.

Like being involved in football violence from a young age is a cause of SYL. Doesn't mean all Luton supporters are racist thugs.

ruffler45 · 06/01/2025 08:08

Dangled an £80 million carrot and Nigel did not bite...Nice try Elon

Agree with all of this. EM doesn’t understand that Reform needs people to support them who would not tolerate SYL. But then why did he court EL at all? It makes him look not very astute at all.

theDudesmummy · 06/01/2025 08:46

I am sure that the causes for Musk's personality disorder are multiple and complex. Place and time does matter but many many people including myself grew up in apartheid SA and don't have anything in common with him. He's very much sui generis. My DH, who is South African (I am not but lived there) feels that he gives South African men a bad name, though.

theDudesmummy · 06/01/2025 08:50

And yes, apartheid did have a huge social impact on me, it did on everyone. It's not the answer to why Musk is Musk.

minipie · 06/01/2025 08:53

I’m delighted that they’ve fallen out and hope it lasts.

Musk’s support of Reform was troubling on many levels. I don’t want Reform with $$$ to spend and I don’t want Musk anywhere near UK politics.

I can't bear Nigel Farage, but I still think that Musk should butt out of British politics.

It could be true. Dh also grew up in apartheid South Africa, he saw the light when he became an adult and understood what had been going on. He voted for Nelson Mandela. But some of his friends from his Uni days in Cape Town still insist SA was better under apartheid. He has gradually cut them from his life as the racist shit they come out with is vile. They always seem to have strong opinions on what’s going on in UK weirdly.

Most have moved on /seen the light (or indeed always had), but some white South Africans from that era have never been able to accept that they weren’t superior just because of the colour of their skin.

muggitymugface · 06/01/2025 09:31

Rats fighting in a sack.

Couldn't be happening to two nicer people.

The sack's top isn't tied up so there's an opportunity for other rats to drop themselves in.

Other parties are available to vote for.
Kinder viewpoints are possible.
Other electric cars brands are available.
Other social media platforms are available.

Got excess money - there are better ways to relieve oneself of excess cash - Bill Gates, Dolly Parton I'm thinking of you two.

CatsWhiskerz · 06/01/2025 09:33

I can't stand either of them to be honest, however, I'll give Nige one thing, at least he didn't agree with Musk! EM wants puppets in the political parties across the world, and he's using his controlling behaviour to get where he wants
