How clean and tidy is your house....

....right now after the mania of Christmas?

1.You would need years of exposure to prepare your immune system to survive a visit. Could possibly feature on a TV show about cleaning.

2.Very messy but surfaces (kitchen and bathroom) have been regularly cleaned. You wouldn't want visitors but it isn't a danger to health.

3.Pretty much back to normal, a few Christmas bits are still hanging around but they will be gone in the next few days once the normal routine kicks in. Kitchen and bathroom surfaces are spotless and you wouldn't die of embarrassment if someone called in unexpectedly.

4.You could perform open heart surgery on your kitchen floor. The house is spotless and there is absolutely no sign that Christmas ever happened. Visitors are in awe of your skills as a domestic Goddess/God.

I think I am number 3, will aim to get closer to 4 next week (it won't happen!)

Somewhere between two and three. Christmas was all cleared up a week ago as we were meant to be going on holiday (thanks Gatwick fog), and the house had a deep clean pre-Christmas. Cleaner due on weds and it’s needed in the bathroom and kitchen

Bottom two floors - 4, as always. I like clean and tidy.

Top floor where two teenagers are back from Uni - God Knows. Hopefully 2, but likely 1. We're all much happier if I don't venture up there while they're home! Thankfully they're decent enough kids who will tidy up their rooms / hoover / strip beds / clean their bathroom (probably not to my standard - but OK) before they head back to Uni.

It was a 3 with Xmas stuff needing putting away but with the dog walking mud everywhere today it has tipped in to a 2 I think

Very. Sorted it all out before we left to go to London for a few days. Almost home and will therefore make a mess when emptying the suitcases!

Between 2 and 3 I reckon. It was more like 1.5 yesterday but the only good things about the crap weather yesterday afternoon was it meant we tidied up the shit pit rather than run away from it and I didn't spend any money. Hooray.

3 with no Christmas decorations and no children

My kitchen is very cluttered, some might say it's a mess... the rest of the house isn't too bad. We'll take down the tree and decorations tomorrow and then I'll vacuum and mop and it'll be much better. But it's never that tidy, there's always some mess. I'm handing over cleaning responsibility to OH after the weekend, I just don't have the time or energy now.

I’m thinking a 3.

Decorations down and put away
All washing done, dried and away.
Hoovering and dusting done
Bathrooms clean
Plan for today is a deep cleaning of the kitchen.

ExceededUsefulEconomicLife · 05/01/2025 15:48

Somewhere between 2&3. My bathroom needs cleaning and the kitchen isn't spotless but isn't messy. Rest of the house is bang average. Christmas has vanished apart from 4 bags of gifts that are in the dining room table and I have a small bedroom filled to the brim of the mess.

I wouldn't want a guest right now but the world wouldn't end if one came round.
