How clean and tidy is your house....

....right now after the mania of Christmas?

1.You would need years of exposure to prepare your immune system to survive a visit. Could possibly feature on a TV show about cleaning.

2.Very messy but surfaces (kitchen and bathroom) have been regularly cleaned. You wouldn't want visitors but it isn't a danger to health.

3.Pretty much back to normal, a few Christmas bits are still hanging around but they will be gone in the next few days once the normal routine kicks in. Kitchen and bathroom surfaces are spotless and you wouldn't die of embarrassment if someone called in unexpectedly.

4.You could perform open heart surgery on your kitchen floor. The house is spotless and there is absolutely no sign that Christmas ever happened. Visitors are in awe of your skills as a domestic Goddess/God.

I think I am number 3, will aim to get closer to 4 next week (it won't happen!)

99% clean as I clean every day and have HEPA filters in each room. Probably 75% tidy though

GreyBlackBay · 05/01/2025 11:37

2-3 but I aim for hygenic and functional, it's never properly tidy and there will always be dust somewhere.

I'd love a totally clean house but I've better things to do.

AuntyMabelandPippin · 05/01/2025 11:38

Number 4 here. Everything taken down and put away on Thursday, and the house cleaned. It looks so bare now.

Eggsley · 05/01/2025 11:38

2 (ish) 😬 Bathrooms and kitchen all need a clean, everywhere needs hoovering and dusting, Christmas decs need to come down. Will be doing it all today. Soon. When I've had a cup of tea.

Comedycook · 05/01/2025 11:39

Between 2 and 3. Once DC are back at school it will be much easier. Plus DH is currently home. I swear every time I clean the kitchen, one of them wanders in for another meal/snack!

Lavenderandbrown · 05/01/2025 11:39

A 4 Most of my guests left on dec 27 taking gifts with them My son went back to grad school yesterday taking all his stuff so I’m empty nest Took trees down yesterday because cold and snowy and no desire to go out of house. Full return to work Monday

Noseyoldcow · 05/01/2025 11:39

I get the urge to deep clean when I have the hump. Dunno why, my mum was just the same. Anyway, since no one and nothing has upset me lately, I'm making do with clean and tidy enough for now.

YeGodsandLittleFishies · 05/01/2025 11:40

Our house is far more presentable during the Christmas period than at any other because people often drop in unannounced during the holidays.

teacoffeeorpassthegin · 05/01/2025 11:40

Good but only because we entertained last night so cleaned and tidied 🤣

DustyMaiden · 05/01/2025 11:41

4 of course

MauveVelcro · 05/01/2025 11:41

1.5 😬

Kitchen is clean, surfaces spotless, it always is. Could perform surgery on my kitchen counters (or floor!) at any time.

However, bathroom and downstairs loo are definitely in need of a clean.

As for the rest...pfttt. I'm still tripping over discarded empty boxes from random shit, I have piles of boxes on the landing to go into the attic (decorations). This morning I found a large scraggy ball of scrumpled wrapping paper in the dogs bed. I reckon there's probably more if I pulled the sofas out 😂

However, bathrooms are being done today and after that we'll be a solid 2.

Next week when the kids are back, will probably move to a 3.

When the kids leave home, I'll likely achieve a 4.

lollylawyer · 05/01/2025 11:43

Somewhere between 2 and 3.
Bit cluttered but not very messy. Always have clean bathrooms and kitchen no matter what time of year!
would be happy to have a friend drop in bit 15 minutes to straighten up would be preferred.
havent yet removed any Xmas decs - job for today !

LouisvilleSlugger · 05/01/2025 11:43

Really clean today as we took out the Christmas trees yesterday and did a big clean downstairs.

Upstairs not so good, but cleaner’s coming tomorrow.

CarrieMoonbeams · 05/01/2025 11:44

4, but no children so I suppose that helps massively.

Lots of pets though, so we hoover, dust and mop the floors every day, and also clean the kitchen and bathrooms every day too because they're quite new so I'm very proud of them!

I like a nice clean and tidy house.

Whatwouldnanado · 05/01/2025 11:45

Shame no category for ours which I would describe as Freshly Ransacked.

Kids go back to uni later so will take decorations down, dust and hoover later.

NancyJoan · 05/01/2025 11:45

Between 2 and 3. But I’m never at 4, only rarely at 3.

devilspawn · 05/01/2025 11:45

3.5, which is quite impressive considering we've had decorators and sanders in the past 3 days.

BlwyddynNewydd · 05/01/2025 11:46

GetyourheadoutoftheovenIris · 05/01/2025 11:25

Between 2 and 3. It would take ten minutes to get tidy but I’m not worried about visitors.

It was 1 until a few days before Christmas.

It never gets passed 2 to be honest. But the people who come over are used to it!

Paradoes · 05/01/2025 11:49

Clean and tidy (not eat your dinner off the floor ..) but cupboards and freezer cleaned, decorations put away, rug washed, slow cooker on for dinners next week, uniforms ironed BUT my anxiety is through the roof and I don’t want to go back to work

but I am glad I have the house in order to make life easier next week

InSpainTheRain · 05/01/2025 11:49

It's a 4 here. Had a full day of putting Xmas stuff away and cleaning yesterday so now back to normal (thankfully). Although DDog and DH are in the woods and are going to be v muddy...

Nothatgingerpirate · 05/01/2025 11:49

As clean and tidy as it could be.
Only husband and me here, though, and definitely OCD, not diagnosed but rules alright.
👍

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 05/01/2025 11:50

2.5: kitchen worktops/table clear and clean. The floor is like a jumble sale but we have a big kitchen. I'm put off sorting it as alot is Christmas stuff... Which goes in the big cupboard. Meaning I need to empty the big cupboard to put it all into the back, then I'll end up sorting the crap in the cupboard... My soul just isn't up to opening Pandoras box/cupboard today.

Generally clean, but not tidy enough except in the living room. I'd have to shut the door if any guests came so they didn't see the chaos everywhere else. But I know it would only take me a day or two to get on top of everything so I'm not stressing.

It's generally 90% tidy/clean any other time but it's a big house, I tend to do upstairs/downstairs alternating over a couple of days, otherwise I might aswell be a 24/7 maid.

NewYearNumpty · 05/01/2025 11:50

DP has finally gone back to work so the large mess on the sofa has disappeared!😆
Just me and Ddog here (and she’s sulking cos “dad” has gone to work!)

Just starting on getting the house “straight” i.e. how I like it - the kettle can have a rest after a strenuous couple of weeks of overuse and normal healthy food can reappear.
Music on and off I go! 🚿🧼🧹🧽🧺

ReginaaPhalangee · 05/01/2025 11:52

4 😅

Hoppinggreen · 05/01/2025 11:52
  1. But no sign of xmas left. With a big hairy muddy dog and 2 men who clean up after themselves pretty well but don't see dirt like I do its never going to be a showhome BUT if anyone turned up right now I would be Ok with it AND give me 15 minutes warning and it would be completely visitor ready.
