How clean and tidy is your house....

....right now after the mania of Christmas?

1.You would need years of exposure to prepare your immune system to survive a visit. Could possibly feature on a TV show about cleaning.

2.Very messy but surfaces (kitchen and bathroom) have been regularly cleaned. You wouldn't want visitors but it isn't a danger to health.

3.Pretty much back to normal, a few Christmas bits are still hanging around but they will be gone in the next few days once the normal routine kicks in. Kitchen and bathroom surfaces are spotless and you wouldn't die of embarrassment if someone called in unexpectedly.

4.You could perform open heart surgery on your kitchen floor. The house is spotless and there is absolutely no sign that Christmas ever happened. Visitors are in awe of your skills as a domestic Goddess/God.

I think I am number 3, will aim to get closer to 4 next week (it won't happen!)

Pretty much #3. I hoovered and mopped all of downstairs the day before yesterday, so that's looking good.
Almost all of the Christmas stuff is away, although I still need to find homes for a few bits that are still in the living room, and we are slowly plodding our way through the chocolates and biscuits that are still out in there.
Bathrooms are all looking good enough, but that reminds me, I was going to do a towels and bathmats wash today, so I'll get on that in a few minutes!
The kitchen sides and the hob need a wipe down though, and there's some bits that need putting away.

scandinista · 05/01/2025 11:56

4, but I tidy and clean a lot.

Crazybaby123 · 05/01/2025 11:57

3 but only as we haven't been out much as too cold, DH has OCD and we both have to be back to work on Monday. But I would say bedrooms need a tidy.

RosesAndHellebores · 05/01/2025 11:58

3 but only because one tree remains, the DC and partners descended yesterday as our family meal was cancelled before Christmas due to illness and we had our roast turkey and crackers last night! DS and DIL were away for Christmas. Tree is coming down in about 30 minutes.

Turkey and ham pie for lunch today!

Apart from remaining Xmas traces, the house is spotlessly clean and tidy. I’d rate it a 4, DH would rate it a 3 —but he is an anal fusspot—

Differentstarts · 05/01/2025 12:00

Downstairs 4 although this is not normal but I took decorations down yesterday and did the big proper clean up and kids aren't home. Upstairs 2

OurDreamLife · 05/01/2025 12:00

4.Mine is pristine but I keep it like this all the time. My house is my pride and joy 😂

HansHolbein · 05/01/2025 12:04

It’s a 3. The cupboards are a different matter..but as it’s a cupboard and you can’t see it, it doesn’t exist. Right?

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 05/01/2025 12:04

@WhiteRosesAndThistles well i am actually looking for a cleaner but I would have to gut the place before she came in the door!!! make of that what you will!!! the only thing clean in my house at the moment is the big bathroom and that is because no one uses it!

OTannenbaumOTannenbaum · 05/01/2025 12:10

2

It's a bank holiday here tomorrow so that's my gutting, cleaning and tidying day

Justgivemehotchocolate · 05/01/2025 12:10

I’m between 1and2, proper cleaning starts tomorrow after the decorations are down and kids/dh back at school/work and out of the way,

my friend is a 4 and I’m constantly jealous of her clean and tidy house

AlexandraPeppernose · 05/01/2025 12:11

2 at the moment as we are flat packing at the moment and the cleaner hasn't come for a fortnight. Will be 3 later as about to put the Xmas stuff back in the attic and then deep clean the conservatory. Will never be 4 because life is too short for that level of perfect.

Orland0 · 05/01/2025 12:13

🤐

troppibambini6 · 05/01/2025 12:13

I've spent the last couple of days blitzing ready for everyone going back tomorrow.
Kids bedrooms have been sorted, washing and ironing all done and everywhere cleans and tidy.

2025 is the year I will be more organised!

NearlyNewHip · 05/01/2025 12:16

#1 am on the fly lady thread to hopefully help sort it this year and get some good routines in place. Early days but washing my dishes each evening seems to be starting to stick

MrsLT84 · 05/01/2025 12:19

Mines a 2 and my husbands family are coming over in less than 3 hours. I have been asking him all weekend to help get on top of it and he hasn't done much, apart from taking a few of the kids bits upstairs and dumping them on our bed. Obviously I will do my best to put things straight ready for when they get here, but he is currently having a 30 minute poo in the bathroom that I expect still needs a good clean, despite me asking him to clean it before I popped out to pick up the last few bits of party food. Can anyone else sense how fed up I am?

TorroFerney · 05/01/2025 12:27

number 4, but not the last sentence as husband did /does most of the cleaning and taking decorations down. I also have a child with a birthday soon after new year so cards and tree come down to make sure the focus is on the birthday (although if up to me I wouldn't put a tree up)>

Tracystubbs · 05/01/2025 12:27

3 but we don't bother with Christmas decorations as we normally spend it at mils
We have some Christmas bits but the house is normal

A friend of mine has 3 kids and her house is always cleaner than 4
You could perform open heart surgery on any floor in her house
I genuinely think germs are too scared to live in her house and dust dare not settle
I'm in awe as she has 3 kids (all have sen)2 dogs (you'd never know they live there unless they come over to you) 2 cats and a lazy dp

Even Christmas day,it's spotless as the kids can't deal with stress/mess and neither can she

She's a domestic godess-good job I luffs her or I'd be jealous!

StMarie4me · 05/01/2025 12:29
  1. 😊
Bumcake · 05/01/2025 12:29

Approaching 3, but I wouldn’t say my kitchen / bathroom is at ‘spotless’ stage. Neither are shameful, but I expended all my housework energy on bloody pine needle pick-up, to the detriment of other tasks.

Gettingbysomehow · 05/01/2025 12:30

My house is currently tidy but it can go from 0 to 100 in one day and I live on my own.

StMarie4me · 05/01/2025 12:30

I live with an adult daughter who has (amongst many other conditions) ADHD and a great love of collecting, combined with a fear of getting rid of things, in a small terraced house, so tidy is a continual challenge! But yeah, right now, a 3!

TeeBee · 05/01/2025 12:30

3 except my boys' rooms. Hopefully they will be rectified when they're both back at uni.

ShiftySquirrel · 05/01/2025 12:34

Tidier than normal because we've had visitors and been at home rather than at work.

Normally we're a 'need a few days notice' sort of family, but it's easy to keep on top of it with a bit of time.

I love having a clear dining table, but I suspect some textiles coursework is about to land and make it a permanent residence until whenever it needs handing in...

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 05/01/2025 12:35

If you’re a 3 I don’t get why you’d post 🤣 stealth boast??

(number 2 in case you didn’t guess)

PLHJ84 · 05/01/2025 12:36

3

it’s generally how we are all the time. Regularly cleaned & tidy & could have guests in with no warning but it’s not a show home & not 100% at any time as it’s clearly lived in by 5 people but as i’ve no need to perform surgery anywhere in my house i’ve no problem with it not being “that” clean as i’ve more important things in my life.
