How clean and tidy is your house....

....right now after the mania of Christmas?

1.You would need years of exposure to prepare your immune system to survive a visit. Could possibly feature on a TV show about cleaning.

2.Very messy but surfaces (kitchen and bathroom) have been regularly cleaned. You wouldn't want visitors but it isn't a danger to health.

3.Pretty much back to normal, a few Christmas bits are still hanging around but they will be gone in the next few days once the normal routine kicks in. Kitchen and bathroom surfaces are spotless and you wouldn't die of embarrassment if someone called in unexpectedly.

4.You could perform open heart surgery on your kitchen floor. The house is spotless and there is absolutely no sign that Christmas ever happened. Visitors are in awe of your skills as a domestic Goddess/God.

I think I am number 3, will aim to get closer to 4 next week (it won't happen!)

Between 3 and 4. Christmas Dec's are all gone , house is lived in but tidy. I don't even dare aspire to 4. With a dog in the house running in from the garden to the kitchen, good luck to anyone hoping for any kind of surgery there.

NorthernGirlie · 05/01/2025 12:39

Between a 2 and a 3 at the minute. Christmas decorations are down, we've had guests so it's untidy from them.

Will do a re-set this afternoon but our cleaner comes Wednesday so I won't be cleaning.

Kingofthetyrantlizards · 05/01/2025 12:42

2/3, but I'm heavily pregnant, have a 3 year old, and we both work full time, so that's pretty much normal...

Flidina · 05/01/2025 12:44

A 4 here,Christmas cleared away on 27th December, and everywhere cleaned, only me DH and teen DD, no little ones to contend with though , In the past my house would have been a 2 when kids were young, used to stress me out no end! It's taken me 40 years and 6 kids to get to this point😂

yakame · 05/01/2025 12:57

We're a 3, kids are still off school so there's still toys and various Christmas bits around but everywhere's had a good clean. Can't wait for tomorrow when I can sort out toys without them being dragged back out seconds later

If you’re a 3 I don’t get why you’d post 🤣 stealth boast??

(number 2 in case you didn’t guess)

I don't think a 3 is a stealth boast🤔 most people seem to be saying they are a 3!

Agree. And my house is only clean as I have a regular professional cleaner who is great

WhiteRosesAndThistles · 05/01/2025 13:05

I might have to downgrade myself to a 2.75, the dogs have got all of their toys out and scattered them all over the floor 🤦‍♀️

Just about a 3 but full housework required and a bit of ironing to do. Just the two of us, small property, so almost always tidy and usually a 3.

UnhealthyCopingStrategies · 05/01/2025 13:09

I'd say we're at 3 apart from the porch which is muddy because it's rained non stop. However that's only because we've just put the tree away and I've done all the cleaning today.

Thornybush · 05/01/2025 13:11

Definitely 2. The bathroom and kitchen are OK. It's every other room is upside down , toys all over the living room floor and the toy room is a mess. The kids bedrooms are full of the bags of clothes that were gifted by dm, I'm trying to put away all the Christmas clothes for next year as I bought them a size bigger. On top of that is laundry that needs to be sorted. Clothes are definitely our biggest issue. We don't have the space and really need to sort them seasonally or the whole house will be covered in clothes. I'm hoping once the dc go back to school and nursery I can get a bit done at lunch time each day (wfh) Can't get anything done with all 4 of them here!!

TuesdayNameChangeArama · 05/01/2025 13:12

There's some surface level mess (things not put away) and I could do with vacuuming the stairs.

But all in all, I could be guest ready within an hour. So 2..?

StressedQueen · 05/01/2025 13:13

Between 3 and 4, it's definitely tidy after Christmas. Just not shiny spotless I'd say but if someone popped round right now I would be absolutely fine.

MamaTrois · 05/01/2025 13:15

1-2. I usually love having DC home for the school holidays, but I'm desperate for them to get back this week. I need a good sleep clean with no small DC under foot!

Hugmorecats · 05/01/2025 13:22

#2. It’s clean but messy with tons of toys. I did some decorating yesterday so hoovered and mopped the whole house but after hours of painting still have several hours more to go before I get the room finished off.

TrtseHkpr · 05/01/2025 13:22

2, pretty much permanently!

LoafofSellotape · 05/01/2025 13:24

Perfect at the moment as we were due guests who had to cancel but was fine last week had already had a post Xmas blitz.

newrubylane · 05/01/2025 13:25
  1. Cleaner came on 20th and we left for Christmas the following day. We then came home for 2 nights (less than 2 full days) before going away again, arriving home last night. There's a lot of mess from children's new toys and a lot of unpacking to do, decorations to come down, but it's basically clean. Hoping to get on top of most of it this afternoon.

Why did my 2 turn into a bullet point?🤔

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 05/01/2025 13:28

Downstairs fine - not perfect but ok for visitors. Do not look upstairs, bathroom aside.

BogRollBOGOF · 05/01/2025 13:34

2-3. Still a night of beautiful Christmas lights/ decorations to go.
I'd want 30 mins notice for guests.
The big backlog is on sorting laundry.

It's had a couple of visitor touch ups in the last couple of weeks.

Pipconkermash · 05/01/2025 13:42

I’m in the process of disassembling Christmas today. We run until twelfth night usually and keep Christmas running right up until the end.

However, I’m taking everything down today and deep cleaning and it will be sparkling by the end of the day. It’s a big house and I Christmas hard so it is a big job. Though I still winterise so new candles and some subtle ambient lighting will remain. Love it.

Ticketytutu · 05/01/2025 13:43

Tree still up . Shall take down tomorrow, house generally clean but not pristine. Its our home and we have a dog.So between a 2-3 I think . Have never moved furniture etc to hoover . Only gets done if carpet cleaner is booked.

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 05/01/2025 13:44

2, but I have to sort the kitchen out today as I’ve got someone coming round to measure up for some work.

blackheartsgirl · 05/01/2025 13:45

Back to normal!
it was tidy last night but this mornings a little bit untidy but ten mins or so will sort that out.

Ive decluttered downstairs and it helps so much!
