Snowbound menu for Sunday

It's quite likely that many of us will be stuck at home tomorrow, whether or not we want to be. Have you got nice tuck and beverages to sustain yourselves and pass the time? I'll be having my usual porridge at breakfast, Heinz Big Soup plus a sandwich or two at lunchtime and the leftover Christmas Day lasagne at dinner (it's been in the freezer). I have red wine, beer and brandy plus cheese, ciabatta, crumpets and butter. I am very fortunate.

Sod's law says the snow will completely miss West Yorkshire. I honestly don't mind if it does pass us by!

I am going to put on a huge pot of stew in the slow cooker to have for lunches at work mon and Tues and dinner for dh. Kids don’t like it

but tomorrow chicken fajitas 🫑🌶️🍗

Theimpossiblegirl · 04/01/2025 20:42

I'm doing a roast tomorrow and then hoping my food delivery comes Monday. If it doesn't, we won't starve, I'm well stocked, we may just have to eat some random meals.

haveyouopenedyourbowelstoday · 04/01/2025 20:43

We've just had this conversation! A freezer full so probably something like sausage casserole. I was going shopping in the morning but nothing we can't do without.

GameOfJones · 04/01/2025 20:44

We have a turkey crown in the freezer that we bought reduced after Christmas so it'll be a pared back version of Christmas dinner! Also have plenty of wine in, and snacks for the kids.

We don't have lots of lunch food in but if it's too snowy to go out we have plenty of porridge oats and milk so we won't go hungry.

Katy232425 · 04/01/2025 20:49

Forecast 12c tomorrow here in my part of middle England. Low tonight of 1c with a bit of rain. So we won’t be snowbound, but nonetheless we have enough leftover Christmas chocolates for several days and the ingredients for a cottage pie, so maybe we’ll pretend we’re snowbound and stay home all day anyway.

Theimpossiblegirl · 04/01/2025 20:52

If I'm snowed in, dry January will stop!

TheTecknician · 04/01/2025 21:30

I've seen two contrasting weather forecasts today. BBC says sleet tonight and tomorrow. Met Office says heavy snow late tonight and all day tomorrow. Thankfully I don't need any shopping.

Weather forecasts update as time goes by as the data becomes clearer. The forecasts are based on specific computer models. Met Office generally feeds in more data from the models than the BBC.

However, bear in mind we are a tiny island in the middle of a great big sea. If the weather systems change by the slightest degree, it can mean a weather phenonomon can miss us entirely.

But it always better to err on the side of caution and stay in with a nice big stew.

Januarythroughtojuly · 04/01/2025 22:17

We're having pigs in blanket sandwiches for breakfast and spicy rice with chicken for lunch. Tea will be something light probably be soup or tomatoes on toast.
Kids have lots of chocolate left so I'm sure they'll enjoy that and a have hot chocolate.

Also West Yorkshire and hoping for snow.
We had an Ocado yesterday so pretty well stocked up, will probably make soup tomorrow and fresh bread.
We live close enough to a few shops to walk if needed anyway

Frostythesnowman1 · 04/01/2025 22:25

Chicken tikka masala in the slow cooker

my girls (6) were so excited for snow but looking at the forecast it’s going to be sleet

OurDreamLife · 04/01/2025 22:28

I’m making sausages, mash, peas and tons of gravy for dinner tomorrow.

Pancakeflipper · 04/01/2025 22:28

Snow began here this evening. I've not been shopping but there's some mince in the freezer and loads of bread rolls so we are going to make burgers! And found a bag of fries.

And got enough cabbage and carrots to attempt homemade coleslaw.

We had a veggie curry tonight which was gorgeous in this cold freeze.

Bigcheeserolling · 04/01/2025 22:31

it’s forecast to piss it down here tomorrow. I will be walking a very wet dog.

FaeryQueen · 04/01/2025 22:32

No snow day here.

We’ve had a couple of hours of light snow but it’s got much warmer and now quite torrential rain instead.

So much for an amber snow alert!

SushiWarrior · 04/01/2025 22:34

Planning to make a soup for lunch with leftover veg (carrots, parsnips, onions, probably chuck in some lentils and a bit of chilli) with some nice crusty bread

Going to do a chilli con carne in the slow cooker, served with rice for dinner.

IncessantNameChanger · 04/01/2025 22:35

It's going to be12c here tomorrow so I expect the snow will melt pretty fast. I cleared out my food cupboards of out of date food today so maybe not the best timing. Flour to thicken stuff is in the bin. Opps!

louderthan · 04/01/2025 22:47

It's forecast 11/12 degrees in the south east tomorrow but absolutely pouring with rain all day. Genuinely think I might prefer the snow...

Elderflower14 · 04/01/2025 22:49

Mum's making beef stew with beef from the freezer and dumplings. I don't normally buy puddings as I make them... But I work at the Co op so I got a reduced Apple Pie yesterday!!

Falafelolive · 04/01/2025 22:50

Just doing a roast chicken with mash, gravy and steamed veggies. Probably some yorkies as well. Might do an apple cake also.

TotallyTwisted · 04/01/2025 22:50

Never heard anyone call food tuck outside an Enid Blyton novel! 😂

Anyway I'm in Scotland so I'm looking forward to my first visit to the big supermarket in two weeks to stock up on lots of lovely food.

Angrymum22 · 04/01/2025 22:54

We are prone to power cuts so it may be something I can cook on a camping stove.
We had a 2+ hour power cut with the last storm due to fallen trees. Unexpectedly, National grid paid us a few hundred £s in compensation just days after. It’s never happened before and not sure it will happen again. But it was a welcome bonus for Christmas.

Sheknowsaboutme · 04/01/2025 22:57

Its Sunday. Always a roast, so beef will be on slow at 8am and im leaving my stove to burn all night so we’ll be warm in the morning

madaboutpurple · 04/01/2025 22:58

It will be lasagne tomorrow with a side salad.

matildaworm · 04/01/2025 23:17

I did a big shop on Friday so we are fully stocked. Tomorrow it'll probably be bacon or sausage butties first thing. An obscene amount of coffee, biscuits and snacks throughout the day and then a chicken roast with all the trimmings. Might get the kids to bake some cupcakes with me for dessert.

If I wasn't doing dry January there would probably be a significant amount of chilled white wine to go with the chicken.
